By now you know that all of the world is buzzing about the death of Steve Jobs. Every unique quote has already been said about him on twitter, blogs, articles, or facebook so I have nothing new to say, but I am grieving the fact that we lost a very brilliant man who changed the way we use technology. Not only did he change it, but I bet he has made his way into each of our lives in some way, shape or form. Currently I’m writing this from my MacBook Pro, with my iPhone perched on top of my Bible and iTunes is open just waiting to be played. I’d say he’s most definitely invaded my personal space. He was genius and I am honored that I get to use his products daily.
Truth be told, I was the girl that always bashed the iPhone until I gave into peer pressure two years ago and purchased my first 3GS iPhone, since then, I am the girl that’s trying to convert everyone else. It wasn’t until this past May that I actually purchased my first MacBook Pro after my computer saw its final days, so I can’t say much, but it goes without saying that now that I’ve gone Mac, I’m not going back. I love it.
About a year ago, however, I started doing a series of iPhone dumps on my own personal blog and I think it’s only appropriate to visit that series once again in honor of Steve Jobs. After all, without his brilliance, there would be no iPhone dump. I have a serious problem when it comes to the camera on my iPhone and I’m not exaggerating or lying one bit when I tell you there are currently 1,857 photos and 62 videos on my iPhone. It’s sick. But if you’re like me, the convenience of that camera is what makes it so popular. And need I even mention all of the really fun camera apps? All of the apps can take an ordinary photo, and make it look nearly professional in two seconds flat.
Without further ado, please bear with me as I share some very random photos off of my iPhone thanks to Steve Jobs.
I recently celebrated a friends birthday at Dave & Busters. Simply stated, it is a Chuck E. Cheese for adults. After eating, there is a fun arcade with games that you win tickets for. Typically, I wouldn’t care less about the number of tickets I had, but when I realized there was a chance we could take home a coffee maker, I was all about it. Thanks to our friends and their tickets, the roomies and I took home this gem. So cheap, but it produces some mighty fine tasting coffee. We have no idea how long it will last, but it’s a fun memory. I think I was the only one overly ecstatic about the coffee maker, so much so, I needed my picture made with it.
This picture was taken from my balcony at my apartment a few weeks ago when the fires were raging. Y’all, those aren’t clouds you’re seeing, that is smoke. Beautiful, yes, but so sad. This picture was edited using Instagram, a really fun photo app.
This here is as big as you’ll ever see my hair. I was ten here and this was one of my glamour shots. My mom sent this to me one morning with a caption that said, “I bet Beth would LOVE to see your BIG HAIR at age ten!” Ha ha! I, however, think this is quite the scandelous picture. I was ten, y’all. Ten.
My roommate Michaela (on the left) is a high school art and photography teacher and a few weeks ago we went to the homecoming football game with her. My other roommate, Bethany, is on the right. We had so much fun soaking up some Friday Night Lights! (Because I know I’ll get asked, I used the app “Diptic” to split the photos and then used “Instagram” to edit it. See ladies? Isn’t the iPhone camera so fun?)
The other night I had the urge to bake my mom’s famous banana bread. If you’re an expert baker like I am (insert sarcasm), you know that the trick to finding out if your said item is baked thoroughly, is to poke a toothpick in the middle and if it comes out clean, all is done and well. Obviously, I needed only one toothpick, but ended up with 50. It was a toothpick disaster. This right here is proof why I don’t spend a lot of time in the kitchen. When in a battle, the kitchen typically wins.
While at Hobby Lobby the other day I kept singing, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas..,”. Hmm, I wonder why?!
That same day, I purchased and took this lovely mug home with me from Hobby Lobby. You can thank the clearance rack for said purchase. Isn’t it so cute?
Kelly Minter recently sent Beth some coffee. Beth so graciously made some and shared it with us at work one day. It did not disappoint.
Here are a few of us enjoying said coffee. From left to right you have Diane, Susan, your Siesta Mama, Kimberly and me.
This was on our way to lunch one day. Me, Beth and Diane were crammed in the back of the car. I am sure you can tell that we were already moving based on the blurriness of the picture.
A few Saturday’s ago I had a hankering for some Chick-Fil-A. It had been at least two weeks since I’d indulged in the blessing of it, so I drove myself over to the nearest Chick-Fil-A. My feelings were immediately hurt upon arrival. How dare they shut down for 19 days? I was so, so sad. No worries, though, I kept the car moving and drove to a different CFA. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.
I’m not sure if any of you have ever heard of the restaurant in NYC called Serendipity. They are not only known for the movie named after them, Serendipity, but also for their frozen hot chocolate. This summer I got to experience the goodness of it all while I was in NYC. Y’all, it was the best dessert I’ve ever put in my mouth. Fortunately, for us, you can take it home with you. Well, not the frozen part, but the mix. The other night we busted out the mix and relived every moment all over again. It may not be as good as sipping it in NY with your best buddies, but it will do. A little known fact you may want to know is that it can now be purchased at your local Williams Sonoma.
I was at Costco the other day and had to take a picture of these ginormous dates. Why, you ask? Because they look like roaches. Who would willingly eat these? Ew.
This past Friday night I was able to attend the David Crowder concert with some friends at the House of Blues here in Houston. This is their last tour as a band, so it was really neat to be there. Touring with them was John Mark McMillan (who wrote the song, How He Loves), Chris August and Gungor. It was a great night and a great concert.
The other day at lunch we were talking about fish and I was telling my co-workers about this fabulous salmon from Costco, of all places. Later that week I purchased some and sent a picture to my boss who was curious. If you’re a fish lover (which I’ve just recently become), you may want to check it out as well. You just stick it in the oven for 20 minutes and you’re good to go. Enjoy!
We here at LPM enjoy a good piece of Dove Chocolates. The best part, however, is the inspirational quotes you find inside each wrapper. This was my quote yesterday. It made me sad because I would most certainly take the time to notice the colors of the leaves changing if in fact I didn’t live in Houston. Here, we’re lucky if they change by March. It’s very unfortunate.
This is my sweet family. We all happened to be in one place at one time. We were at a dear friends wedding. I have two brothers, Brien and Kevyn, one older and younger. And those are my parents, Sam and Kristy. I dearly love these peeps.
Last night my roommate Bethany and I decided to go on a bike ride. The entire evening ended up being comical, but we at least enjoyed being outside preparing to go on our ride that lasted all of eight minutes. So why the picture? Because we believe in safety first.
Thank you, Steve Jobs, for sharing your gifts and creative talents with the world. I clearly am blessed by them as the iPhone has brought me endless entertainment.
Happy Thursday, y’all!
OK, now. I love this kind of post. I love it. And, in fact, I love YOU. Especially for two reasons: The glamour shot and the bicycle-helmet shot. Yes. Welcome to Living Proof, Lindsee, where we are willing to throw ourselves to the wolves to minister to women. And sometimes women just need to grin.
One more thing. Nancy and I were just laughing AGAIN about the helmet picture and she said, “I don’t wear a helmet because I don’t have one.” I pointed to my huge hair and said, “This IS my helmet” to which she said, “And it would very likely protect your head from harm.” Yes. It would. Just another reason.
Thanks for the fun post Lindsee!
Oh dear sweet Lindsee. Those are dates. Not raisins. And yes, they look like a cockroach. However, if you put a slivered almond in them, wrap them in bacon, and bake them, they are DIVINE. And no one will know what they are. Delicious. Trust me.
I adore you. Fo shiz.
Dates are also WONDERFUL, sliced open with some cashew butter stuffed inside. YUM.
To THAT dear Robyn I say WHAT is not bettered by a little bacon? Hmmm?
Girl. Preach. I agree with you wholeheartedly.
For the record, friends, I changed “raisins” to “dates”. Thank YOU for your wisdom! ; )
Well, I never thought I was wise about dates. But I guess it’s good to be wise about something – even if it is ugly, dried, fruit. Score 1 for me today. π
I drive right by Hadleys when I head to Palm Springs CA. It is a must stop for me every time I go. I can tell you the really ginormous dates are Mejool dates which are bigger and sweeter and are also sold at Costco. Put a pecan or walnut in the center after you remove the pit and roll them in powdered sugar. It is an instant dessert. Give it a try.
YUM!
funny true story: we have date trees at our monastery in Tucson. We used to sell them – there was a sing in the front window that said “Dates sold here” Always got a few laughs π
That is AWESOME. This made my whole day.
So fun! And good job on the helmet wearing (ahem, ahem!) π Seriously though, I had to comment at this:
“…Dave & Busters. Simply stated, it is a Chuck E. Cheese for adults”
That made me laugh out loud… you’re right on! No wonder I love it so much! π
Your post made me so happy! π
Love the iPhone pics – girl, you need to add a few – mine has 2697 as of today – and those are the ones that I transferred back after downloading – easily that many more on the computer! I also e-mail myself pictures so they can be saved on the phone from the big Nikon gun . . . favorite iPhone camera app – Hipstamatic!
Thanks for the illustrated history . . .
Lindsee,
You are too cute! Love the coffee maker pic. I would never win anything that great at D&B. So nice to have you on here.
Me either! I have a whole bunch of cards with random point amounts and Lord knows all they would get me is a pixie stick and a comb!
I love your iPhone posts Lindsee! I am happy to report that I will be trading in my Blackberry Storm in a couple of weeks. π It’s been good, but I am ready to join the iPhone-ers of the world.
I love that Salmon too – they have it at Sam’s Club over here in Georgia. It is oh so good. In fact, my sweet hubby and I are at the beach this week and I’m hoping for some fresh Grouper for supper here in a bit. Fan of fish – yes I am.
One more thing, there is a Williams Sonoma in the gorgeous mall here in Destin, FL and I will look for that delicious frozen hot chocolate. In fact, WS is where Bibby (Beth) and Gran Jan (me) both got our pancake shaped molds. Because we’re cool and fun grandmothers. π I love it that we bought them at just about the same time…hundreds of miles apart. Like-minded – us siestas. π
Love y’all,
G.J.
G.J., I think you’ll LOVE the new iPhone. And I also think you’ll LOVE the frozen hot chocolate. : ) We love you!
I only found “malted” frozen hot chocolate on
they’re web site
GJ..so good to see your smiling face! We met at the last SSMT celebration. AT BF Changs for lunch, what a fun day!
Love this post! Made me smile π
(Love the idea of an iphone dump)
Hey Lindsee,
Thanks for the fun little peek into your life! You are too funny and a true siesta to share those pictures with us. I sure love getting to know my siestas better. Still a newbie here…..
Pretty funny that I actually have an almost identical glamour shots photo of me when I was 10. What is it with that age? Haha
Ooooh! I am so bummed that I deleted a bunch of random pictures yesterday from my phone. This was a great idea. I am definitely going to steal it in the future after I do some more snapping. π
Thanks for the Diptic tip — downloading as we speak.
Just so you know – my 2 year old now knows your name! He’s looking at your pictures with me! So fun!
Lindsee –
It takes a brave, brave woman to post her Glamor Shots. I know because I posted a blog with a bunch of my pictures π And I wasn’t 10 . . . I was in my early 20’s!!!
http://whatisitnow1.wordpress.com/2010/04/07/big-glamor/
Sheri, that is amazing. We’re secure in Jesus, aren’t we?! π
Glad to hear they partake of Dove at Living Proof! I can rest assured you are getting your fill without our 242. I don’t think I’ve been getting my fill of Dove… then again, I guess all the college junk food is my substitute!
LB! I told them all about our partaking of Dove every single 2:42 meeting. It’s like a little bit of y’all are here with me! π
Thanks Lindsee for your post. My first thought was I wonder did he know Jesus. All that he did for technology is good, but did he know Jesus. Just a thought.
Yanna, I had the exact same thought.
Unfortunately, he was a buddist. We can only hope the Holy Spirit knocked on the door one more time before he passed …. and he said “Come in….”
Amen, Pam.
Yanna,
I had wondered the same thing, but a friend of mine told me he was Buddist, which is sad. We can pray for his family and hope God will touch their hearts.
I knew that he was following Buddism when I posted that, just wanted to get us all to thinking. I pray when I leave this world I leave a legacy of believers saying I knew the LORD and that is how I am remembered. I pray the door opened for him too and he realized there is One God, I will be listening for that in the media and in his book that’s supposed to come out.
I really don’t know much about Steve Jobs (I don’t own an iPod, iPhone, don’t subscribe to iTunes nor own any Apple products…can you believe it?) but my husband did read he was a practicing Buddist. I really don’t know anything about the man, except he was certainly an innovator. I, too, hope he responded to the Lord before he passed. To gain the whole world and lose your soul…..sad.
i’ll never forget Travis’ story at LProof in Fresno this past year…. about his mac…. leaving it on his car… then driving with it ON the car… then losing it (obviously)… then looking for it… then seeing a car run over it….. and still being able to salvage the important stuff from the hard-drive. the scariest story ever!!!!
Love Steve Jobs and his creative mind…. between me and my boys… we have a plethora of iProducts. fun stuff….
dear lindsee,
first of all, y’all have chick-fil-a AND ya got to see david crowder band live. ENVY!!!! not only do artists rarely make their way through south dakota, the nearest chick-fil-a is probably in oklahoma!!!!! (but OH does this place feel like home… C:)
second, “When in a battle, the kitchen typically wins.” amen sister, amen. haha. the picture made me literally laugh out loud.
third, i love dates!!! those ones look DELISH!!!!
last, but certainly not the least, apple products are so sleek & user friendly; iphones are entertaining & addicting (i have to resist the temptation to take mine out at work…); and for sure, once you go mac you will not go back.
thanks for the smile today!
love,
candifer C:
Right before I read this blog I had been surfing on ebay for….of all things…AN IPHONE! Could it be God thinks I need an iphone? π
I love your iPhone dumps! I follow you on Instagram so I have seen most of these photos already, but it’s always fun to read your commentary.
Lindsee,
I haven’t commented since you have been brought on staff at Living Proof, but I just have to say Congratulations! I think you are perfect for this, just based on what I’ve seen in the comments of Siestaville for the last few years!
And I loved your iPhone dump. Thanks for the fun and random pictures. Like you, I have been one over by Apple products and wouldn’t trade my MacBook Pro or my iPhone for anything! So thankful for the genius and creativity of Mr. Jobs.
Blessings!
Tara
Question ??? where can i find a pair of boots that are mules….?? they are slip on boots… i know ya’ll would know…i live in Mississippi they don’t have alot of them… so where in texas online can i find them???Help fashion sista…
Isaiah 48:17 (NLT) I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow.
Loved this post Lindsee! Brought a huge smile to my face! I have just discovered the wonders that are Hobby Lobby (I used to make fun of a friend of mine for going there all the time until I went for my first 2 hour visit) and Gungor (thanks to my much hipper friends who know the good music). While I have never been to Costco, I’m thinking of going as I learned yesterday they are now carrying Paula Deen’s French Toast Caserrole (As a Midwestern girl with a southern heart, I gotta make due with things like that). I am already an Apple convert though. In fact Im sending this comment on my iPhone π
FUN post. Pictures just change the whole feel of a post don’t they?
We went and saw John Mark when he was in ATL. Great show and even went into a time of worship led by someone in the audience. Super cool to hear all of the voices singing accapella to the Lord.
Lindsee Lou, bless you for letting us get to know you a bit better. I’m so techno-challenged that I was afraid the “dump” had some analogy to well, you know, “dis’ing” iPhones or something π Ever so relieved to find out you had an album up your sleeve. You’re so adorable, but my fav is the toothpicks. I’ve suffered a few culinary skirmishes myself–and have scars to prove it.
My husband is pretty sure that cell phones will be the downfall of western civilization. Or at least texting (that’s practically a cuss word ’round these parts). Of course, this from a man who said repeatedly that the internet was just a fad. And he was not even kidding. Our children, Pebbles and Bam Bam may need counseling soon.
Thank you for reminding us of the many blessings imparted by the prefix “i”. And in his defense, did I mention Mr Flinstone got me a Macbook for my birthday. Now if I could only figure out how to turn it on. JK. Mostly π
No, Steve Jobs was not saved…he was a Buddhist. Just read an article on him tonight and was so saddened!! (That he wasn’t saved.) He was brilliant to be sure. And to think Apple even fired him a long time ago and then when they started to go under they brought him back.
Can I comment on the helmet as well?? Well, I am going to…so glad to see you were wearing one. In 1993 I went over the handlebars of my bike……the plastic surgeon that sewed up my face, said I should be “grateful” I took the brunt of it with my face…if it had been my head I may have had a closed head injury. Nice to hear as your face is being stitched back together….yes I was somewhat grateful. I have no scars!! Darn good surgeon!! By the way I have BIG hair….wouldn’t have helped the head!!
So fun to read the blog!! Keep up the good work Lindsee!!
Georgia, that is crazy. Praise the Lord you are okay! Confirms that wearing a helmet is of utmost importance.
I feel left out of the i-phone wonder. Why? Because my big fat fingers cannot type on a touch screen. No way. I’ve tried to do it on my boys’ i-touch screens and usually they end up taking them from me urging me not to smash their possessions. I can’t do it. I’ve tried. It’s like I’m invisible. So no i-phone. Costs too much to smash like a bug in a fit of rage. I know I can use the i-pad…a friend reluctantly let me try his. So maybe if the i-phone is as big as the i-pad I’ll be one of the cool kids. Or not.
I love the Frozen Hot Chocolate from Serendipity. The only thing I love better than that is the Frozen Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate that they have. Because for me nothing is better with chocolate that a little peanut butter, well maybe caramel. π
Also, thank you Steve Jobs, I as well am an iphone user. Can’t imagine my life without it. My favorite camera app is Camera+
Lindsee, You are a great addition to all the awesome ladies at LPM. I enjoyed your post!
Jackie
Thank you so much for posting this!
I am also a full blown out Mac woman. Being a graphic design, Steve Jobs has been a part of my live for a looooong time! So thanks for taking the time to honor him.
I’m a native Texan, but currently living in NYC…….I sooooo miss HobbyLobby and Chick-fil-a! A couple of things I can’t get around here that I really miss and love!
You’re a doll! Thanks again for posting and sharing the iPhone dump π
You know what someone told me though? That Steve Jobs was a Buddist…I hope he met Jesus before he died. You can spend your life changing the world, but you have to let the Savior change you.
Oh Lindsee love, love, love this post! L.O.V.E!!! I need to follow your blog just for Dump Day! I would totally participate in Dump Day.
I just recently joined the iphone world back in June. My best friend who has had hers for a while would allow my son who is 4 to play games on her phone at church after dinner on Wednesday nights. One evening in the car he declared to me “Mom, you’re not cool, you don’t have an iphone.” So when I got my phone in June, my 4 year old knew how to work it better than I did.
Lindsee I’m so glad you’re at LPM π and I love your posts!
Lindsee, such a great post. Thanks for sharing the photos & great stories to go along with them. The dates remind me of my grandmother, she served them at Christmas time like candy as she stuffed them with a nut and rolled in sugar. Yummy! & David Crowder Band in concert final tour, that must of been amazing – such truly talented group
Lindsee,
Loved the post! I am not up for an upgrade until Dec. I might have to take a bite of the Apple π It is very much fall here( I live in Michigan) so I do have a taste for them.
Edible and technical ones!! You may come and visit my lovely state anytime during the Fall. I believe we produce the best color change you will ever see!!
Stacie
PS..Glad you are here in Siestaville!!!
FUN POST!!!!! Thank you for sharing all the photos! Love them- especially the big hair photo!
We’re a Mac family, too. What would we all do without our beloved Apple??????
His,
Shari
My 3 yr old loves dates. Those genes were not from me. We used to be stationed in AK and watching the salmon swim back upstream was such a neat experience. I really tried to like fish while I was there, but I am simply not a seafood girl. I saw Dove bars at our little market yesterday and while I was tempted to buy one, I chose to remain ignorant- the M&Ms don’t even taste the same here! π
I think itβs just so cool how willing you are to share your life with those in cyber space! I loved peeking through the window via your pictures; specifically the one of your and your coffee pot…how awesome you “won” it! π (I know it was bought with OODLES of credits off that card at D&B but still TOTALLY cool!)And I can’t think of anything more nice than a pretty mug to drink your coffee out of in the morning…(or afternoon, or evening!)I have a favorite and just this morning my son came to me and said, “Mom, I have your mug, would you like me to pour your coffee?” I guess it really is the little things!
Love from a sister in “The Lou”! π (That’s Saint Louis, btw)
That was simply delightful. Thank you for sharing.
Lindsee Lou, you are absolutely a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e. Love you so! It is so exciting that you are at LPM. I blog and tweet and facebook but I have to borrow people like you to do apps! You are so creative. And… Steve Jobs created capacity to put computers into the palms of our hands. And you use it well for His Glory.
Hi Sweet Bev! So fun to hear from you on here. Will we get to see you at the SSMT?
Lindsee,
Love this post; glad to hear that I’m not only one with 1000’s of random pictures on my phone! Now I’m going to have to get those apps… π
I’m praying about the bitterness I feel due to those Dove wrappers. π I live on Guam right now and can’t wait to watch the leaves change when we get home next year!
Enjoyed the post, Lindsee!! Keep it up!
What a fun post!! I have a ton of pics on my iPhone, too. Just discovered the Camera+ app and I love it!!! I love hot chocolate but have never tried it frozen. I’ll definitely have to pick some up at WS. Laughed so hard at 10 year old Glamour Shot pix! Love it!!! Thanks for the laughs! Happy almost weekend!!! π
Enjoyed your pics, Lindsee, and your post.
LOVED IT!! I love the picture of your family π so sweet
Thank You Lindsee, Your post made me smile. My second cousin is Laurene, Steve Jobs wife. We only saw each other at family reunions and I never met Steve, but several years ago I was awakened at night with a strong pull on my heart from the Holy Spirit to begin praying for them. My first reaction was Lord I don’t even know this man and I haven’t seen my cousin in 20 years, but I will obey. Then it came out a few months later that he was battling cancer. I have prayed for them for years, and when I found out that Steve had died I was saddened but honestly also discouraged. I clicked on Living Proof to get a little encouragement, and I did! Your post reminded God is in control. He loves each us and uses each us to touch others in ways unseen. It is not always for us to know the results but to walk in faith and obey. Have a blessed day! Debbie
Wow, Debbie! That is such a neat story. Oh, that we would all feel that burdened for our family members, despite how well we know them. I have thought of his family a lot and the void they now have. It saddens my heart, but God is still good.
Lindsee π
I’m just now seeing your post because I DON’T have an iphone (or any kind of smart phone, for that matter!) I think I’m missing out on a LOT of fun:-) Sigh…
The photo of your family is so sweet – wow, can I see where you get your great smile! Thanks for letting us peek into your life. Oh – can I just say that every time I see your name, I want to pronounce it like Jesse pronounces Woody’s name in Toy Story 2…wait for it…”LindSEEEEEEE” π
You are adorable, Tatia! Loved that last line.
I had to LOL at the toothpicks…I have done that more than once!!! Great post. Love the pics!
