Go West, Young Fam

The back to school buzz has started around these parts and it feels like summer is wrapping up. Of course, Texas has two more months of summer weather before we can even think about fall, but fall semester activities are surely not far off.

I don’t know about you, but this summer took me by surprise. I really thought it would be low-key and restful. We had a busy year with ministry and family life (hello, Annabeth!) and I looked forward to recuperating over the summer. Well, my Relaxing Summer quickly turned into Activity Central. Can you relate? We had Jackson in swim lessons twice a week for two months, Curtis taught at MetroLive on Thursday nights, and we traveled a bit. I also did our MM&L study with some girls from Sunday school. When Metro and the MM&L study ended last week, it was like the end of a marathon. (Not that I would actually know what that’s like.) What I’m trying to say is we had a great summer but we are t-i-r-e-d!

Curtis and I decided to wrap up our summer with a trip to the mountains. We have a house/dog sitter coming to our place and we’re heading up to the cabin in Wyoming for almost two weeks. We’re saying adios to schedules, commitments, wireless and high speed Internet, our cell phones, humidity, and having anyone else to hang out with but each other. We can’t wait for some milder weather, frigid night air, sleeping with the windows cracked, quiet times on the porch with a view of the mountains, and just being together in one of the most beautiful places God ever made. This will be our first time to take Jackson in the summer and of course it will be Annabeth’s first time to go. My parents are going to join us there after about a week. We’re so excited.

I may be scarce around the blog for a while, but your Siesta Mama will keep things afloat. The cabin only has dial-up Internet. Awesome, right? I guess we’re lucky to even have that in the middle of a national forest. I hope to have some neat pictures and stories to share soon. As my mom says, you can’t write about life unless you’re living it!

Enjoy what’s left of your summer, Siestas! I’ll see you soon.
Love,
Amanda

FROM BETH: Y’all, I accidentally just deleted 41 comments! It’s been a long time since I’ve done that! (It’s easier than it seems.) Please forgive me. I had a technical difficulty and had them marked to approve them and – boom – there they went! Tried to reverse it but couldn’t. We are having a terrible lightening storm and somehow the web wires may have gotten crossed. I will tell Amanda how many of you sent prayers and encouragements for their time away. You are wonderful and we love you so much!

Amanda, taking your child to swimming lessons twice a week is tiring for you? You better hang on, cause you are in for a big surprise as your little ones grow!
    Praying for you!

The best part of your plans is that you will have two weeks! That sounds wonderful. Sometimes one week just doesn't seem to be enough. Have a great time. We'll miss you Amanda.

    Amanda- have a WONDERFUL trip!

Siesta Mama- I felt as if it was Siesta duty to let you know they are now making Snuggies for dogs. I know Houston weather is still warm for awhile, but I wanted the Moore house to be prepared!

    Beth,
My first time here & just started my first study with you on "Believing God". Just got to the last day of week 3 where you talked about John & how God will give us the opportunity to be offended by Him. I lost my baby 2 wks before he was due when I was 46 and have been grieving more this Summer than I have for a while. But I have always trusted God for the situation because there wasn't anything else I could do. It has changed my life for the better, I'm back in school & planning to start a ministry afterwards. God has given me purpose & He is there with me the whole way. God bless you & thank you for your ministry.

"A Siesta in Austin," per your request I didn't post your comment so that we could stay on theme but I want you to know that you encouraged me so much! God be greatly praised!

Completely off the subject, but I feel the need to ask for this prayer request. I am a siesta in Clarksville, TN and have the privilege of being the ed. ministry assistant at FBC Clarksville. We are one of the host churches for the simulcast on the 28th and 29th and I am so excited! We have done this before but had a low turnout. Our worship center holds about 1,200 people and we are praying fervently for the LORD to open the floodgates and send those who need to hear from God thru Beth and be a part of our women's ministry. We are including lunch afterwards so we can get to have some extra time together and I long to have the sanctuary filled! Please please pray for us. We have sold around 300 tickets ($10 each with free child care available) so far and we have so much more room. We are also a military Church – Ft. Campbell Army Post is close by and I know there are women who need the LORD. I just ask that you join me in this prayer. God Bless, Dana Abee, FBC, Clarksville, TN

Enjoy your time away. We just arrived home after a 17 day trip to ND and then over to Door County, WI. Very relaxing, quiet and laid back. Cooler there too. Now we are back to summer heat and humidity here in MO.

I just want to add that last year we went to Lake Jackson, Yellowstone, and the Black Hills. It was my most favorite vacation ever! Loved, loved, loved awakening to a glorious view of the Tetons at Lake Jackson and spending time with our Lord. I long to return. :o)

All that just to say, enjoy! :o)

Dear Amanda, Curtis, Jackson and Annabeth,

Have a wonderful time in Wyoming! I'm sure you will see amazing sites and be in awe of God's majestic and creative hand. I've never been to Wyoming but it's on my list of places to visit. Enjoy every minute of your sweet family at this stage, for too soon, it will move into letting them grow up and be independent. By the way, that's a great stage too 🙂

Take care! I'm praying for you all. Sending love from Georgia!

Oh Amanda and Beth, that sounds so wonderful, I fear I may never know an experience so peaceful and beautiful.
I am jealous with a godly jealousy (and a little not!).
I hope ya'll have the best time ever.

Amanda, have a great time on your vacation! I know what you mean about being tired! Unfortunately, I don't see any relief in sight right now. I work for the state of Georgia and am doing the job of 2 people right now (thanks to budget cuts). Plus just being a wife and mom and work in the church and my ministry…….. makes me more tired thinking about it! But I feel I'm in God's will for this season of my life, so I'll keep pressing on.

Amanda! We also went west for a little vacation these last 10 days or so. Since Sunday, we've been in the Central Oregon Mountains. Never been to Jackson Hole but I'd bet those Rockies are so very majestic! Something about mountains is so very good for the soul.

Enjoy every moment with your sweet family. What a perfect opportunity to make beautiful memories and get out of the humidity! =) Will be looking forward to some pictures when ya'll get back!
    much love,
    rachel
