Thinking Pink and Seeking Prayer

*UPDATE*
Guess who has power? God does! And so does our office! Praise Him!

“God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. God saw that the light was good.” (Gen. 1:3-4)

Yippee! It is good indeed! Thanks for praying, everyone. The staff will be back in action tomorrow.

Thanks for being excited with us! We are so surprised and thrilled to be having a baby girl. My first waking thought this morning was, “It’s a girl!” Then I had to call mom and talk about it…again. You should have heard us carrying on when we had a minute to ourselves yesterday. I said, “Mom, we’ll have dress-ups and purses and shoes and…oh mom…you’ve only begun to spend money!” We died laughing because it is just so true.

We all drove home from the ranch on Monday after hearing that my house had power. My parents spent the night with us since they did not have electricity until last night. Mom babysat Jackson while Curtis and I went to my OB appointment yesterday morning. After we got the fun news, we ran over to a nearby Macy’s and bought these sweet things for Baby Girl.

We put them in a gift bag and when we got home we let my mom open them. That’s how we told her what we were having. She totally freaked out. We sent a picture of the clothes to Melissa’s cell phone and she called us bawling. My dad has this memory of Melissa and I wearing our dressy red coats when we were little girls and I told him we would be sure to find one for our princess. Curtis’ whole family was rooting and believing God for a girl and they were thrilled. Curt said his dad was giddy and I know my sweet mother-in-law is excited to pay a visit to the pink side of our favorite baby boutique in her hometown (Jelly Beans in Springfield, MO). I had a blast calling my friends Sunni and Janelle, who both have little girls born within a month of Jackson. Knowing and loving their precious daughters makes me so excited about getting to have this experience, too!

It’s pretty surreal that we actually got to have our doctor’s appointment yesterday (and even shop at Macy’s), given the state of this community after Ike. There are some areas in very bad shape. Gasoline, ice, and groceries have not been easy to acquire and a ton of people still do not have electricity. (Things are getting better in some areas.) Galveston residents are not even being allowed into their city right now. My understanding is that it is basically unlivable. There are so many things to pray for. One huge praise is that God sent a cold front this way and we have had MUCH cooler temperatures. We praise Him for His mercy! Houston is generally very unpleasant in September. Please pray for the great weather to continue and for God to meet the Greater Houston Area’s electricity, gasoline, and food needs. Pray that the poor and those without homes to return to will be provided for abundantly. We know of some people who cannot locate loved ones who were living in Galveston before the storm. Please pray that they will be found safe and sound. Most of all, pray that God will use this situation to humble us and prime this city for spiritual awakening and revival.

We do have a couple of prayer needs directly related to LPM. Our office still does not have power, but we are eager to get back to serving! Will you all please ask God to restore our power, even today? Most of us got together for lunch today to fellowship and go over the game plan for the rest of the week. One of my co-workers was able to peek into her work email account and she already had 400 emails waiting for her. We all have lots to do! Will you also ask God to power up our ministry director’s house? I believe she is the last one of us to lack electricity. Thank you so much, sisters!

Bethie will get on an airplane and head to Montana tomorrow. She will speak to some women at a prison on Thursday night and then have the Living Proof Live event on Friday and Saturday. I’m not sure if our prayer memo will go out to our prayer warriors this week, so I wanted to be sure to mention this prayer need to you, too.

May God bless each one of you today and may you have a keen awareness, as many of us in Houston do right now, of God’s faithfulness to provide every single thing you need to live and breathe. He is always at work caring for us. We praise Him with you today.

Love,
Amanda

Seeing Pink with you. Of course it helps that I have a 4 year old girl that loves pink. Her room is purple and blue (painted before she had a say) and in defiance she calls it her pink room!
We were hit by Ike’s dying breath here in Ohio. We were without electricity for 2 days, some are still without power, and all I could think was, if it is this bad here after traveling over the entire US how bad it must be for those near the coast. My prayers are with all of you.

What a fun way to tell you mom about the baby being a girl. Our oldest is a boy and the last three are girls. They are as different as night and day. I have got to say that each one has been such a blessing to me, my hubby and each other.

Thanks for the update about Houston. I will keep praying.

    Congratulations on your baby girl!

Can you believe that Ike hit Western Kentucky with hurricane category 1 wind speeds Sunday morning? Hundreds of thousands have been without power and thousands without water. Many here may not have power restored until Sunday. Trees, limbs, and shingles lie everywhere. Tons of food spoiled. The local Walmart was dark for days. In 2008, we’ve had a devastating tornado, an earthquake, and now we’ve even shared in hurricane force winds. Our winds were 73 mph–just a fraction of yours. I can’t imagine what Galveston and Houston endured. We’re praying for you all!

Congratulations!! Woohoo…a baby girl!! I LOOOOVED buying clothes (especially pink) for my nieces when they were little. Even now I have a strong impulse to stop dead in my tracks at the little girls’ section at any department store and buy something! I LOVE little boys as much as little girls, but the clothes to choose from are wayyyy better for girls than boys. Don’t you agree?
Well tell Curt congratulations and that we are SO excited for ALL of you! I hope Little Miss will have some hair soon after she’s born because Bethie will be wanting to tease it and put a bow in it right away…LOL!

    Amanda,
I am so excited for you all! I commented on your mom’s post but had to say a special congrats to you. I have two girls and had so much fun with them. And what is so funny is that as soon as I read the post from your mom talking about pink I thought “MACY’S!!!” – yippee!! Those are just the first of a bajillion adorable little princess frocks she will have! And like I said in response to Bibby – THE BOWS!! OH THE BOWS!!!

I also want to say that I am so grateful to our great and glorious God for sparing so many and sending better weather. My dearest friend is still without power, but she, her family, and her home are safe. Thank You, Father!

    Tara says:

    Amanda,

As I read your post, I couldn’t help but be blessed by your humility. Even in such an exciting time of your life, when you are consumed with everything pink, you are still so mindful of the needs around you. Thank you for the sweet and humble reminder to pray for those in need and to thank God for the provisions He gives us.

We have been and will continue to be praying for the Greater Houston area, LPM’s electricity, and Sabrina’s too!

PS. Congratulations again on a little girl- And thanks for sharing with us the details of how you told your Mom! What a great idea!!!

As a mom of 4 girls myself, I admit to being biased! congratulations! girls are a blessing. i have a question about the daniel study and don’t know where the proper place to ask those is. so….here goes! why don’t hannaiah, azariah and mishael get referred to by their hebrew names like daniel does? why do we know them as shadrach, meshach and abednego? just trivia i would imagine, but worth asking! thanks!
and we will continue praying for the galveston/houston area. thanks for the updates and direction for prayers.

Princesses, fairies, and tea parties, OH MY! I’m so thrilled for you, Curtis, and the Jones and Moore families! After I found out we were having a baby girl after having twin boys, I did a little jig in the OB office. I would have been over the moon about a sweet boy, but there is something special about having a daughter! Will be praying for her healthy, safe arrival as well as for all those devestated by Ike.

I don’t think I have made a comment on your blog yet…although I have been reading for a while and even have your blog as one of my favorites. I too am from Houston, but currently living in Florida. My entire family were affected by Ike…but fortunately, NOTHING compared to what I see on the news. I will keep you, your family, your ministry in my prayers. Please do the same for me…we are in a constant battle with infertility and so desire to have a baby. I know that it is all in God’s timing, but please pray that I continue to wait for the His timing and His plan.

Many blessings to you and all that you do!

Yes, the whole area hit in TX is in our prayers here. I will add Sabrina to my journal of prayers.

I live the life of girls thru my friends who have them. There are 4 boys here in my house and the woman power of me and our dog. All my laundry loads are darks, well, except the socks, maybe I should go darks there too and never have to change my washer setting. Um.

Amanda, girls are such a delight. My daughter is such a joy, and such a daddy’s girl, I mean, princess. Congrats!

Please remember those of us in East Texas as well. There are still many without power throughout eastern Texas. Pray that we, as a community, and as a state, would step up to help those in need, in any and all capacities. There are so many needs, and God has equipped us to share His love and hope in just such times.

I remember when I’d gotten pregnant and found out I was having a baby girl. There was a lot of conflict, but to ease my dad into it she dragged my dad to Macy’s and bought my daughter’s first outfit. Needless to say “Grampa” made a beeline to her each night he walked in the door.

Give those inmates hope of You in a glorious vision

Amanda!!!!! I know this feeling of a “Girl” just imagine!!! I was raised with 3 brothers, NO sisters. Then when I married my man and I adopted a child and it was a boy! I am crazy for him and about him but my heart so desperately wanted a girl. Then as GREAT as our GOD is he blessed me with a girl in late June. She is a beautiful thing and loves pink as much as I do and……(many tears here)…cannot finish.

Bless you and your new daughter,
