Here You Are!

*Updated to add Maryland. (So sorry, Maryland! I don’t know how that happened. I cut and pasted the names of all 50 states and only removed Delaware! We had Maryland a number of times! Wouldn’t have overlooked you for the world! – Beth) And it looks like we have a brand new Siesta from Delaware joining us! Welcome, Jill/Crew of 5 For Jesus! – Amanda. ALL FIFTY STATES! YAHOO-JAH! To God be some mighty BIG GLORY!

Well, Siestas, you did it. You left Amanda and me slack-jawed! Weā€™d hoped for a diverse groupā€¦but never in our wildest dreams would we have imagined! In the terrific words of Luke 24:22 (ever so slightly out of context), ā€œā€¦our women amazed usā€! I feel so many things but at the top of the list, I feel wonder. Wonder toward a God who perfectly timed an information age in the latter days of His Kingdom calendar where the testimony of His Son could be transferred and shared in seconds by people so diverse and distant, their paths wouldnā€™t cross in a lifetime. We are one tiny blip on the pinhead of the World Wide Web. Imagine what really might be happening out there in the Name of Christ! So many dark and deadly contacts happen on line but if we only knew what God Himself was bringing together, weā€™d fall to our faces with praise. I am simply astonished.

SO, with ecstatic joy, I present to you tastes of Siestaville! (Drum roll pleaseā€¦)

First, hereā€™s where you live:

Virginia
Washington (The numbers of you totally blew my mind! Way to show up, Northwest! Weā€™re so honored your aboard!)
West Virginia
Wisconsin
Wyoming

Can you believe your eyes??? We came within an inch of having Siestas in every single State of the US. Is there any chance Delaware answered the roll call but I missed your darling self? Let us know!

And, how about outside the US? Iā€™ve got to begin with a HUGE SHOUT-OUT to our Siestas in Canada! I could not believe how many of you make up our blog town! And considering all our Southern figures of speech at LPM, way to persevere! We are the better for you, Canadian Siestas! You are treasured here. Keep your comments coming.

And outside the US and Canada, letā€™s hear it for Siestas who live inā€¦
Amsterdam, The Netherlands (Several!)
(One wrote in to tell us that, yes, she really is a Dutch Siesta who has to work extra hard for unity amid that MUCH diversity! I loved it.)
Bosnia
Brazil
Central Asia
China
Germany
Ireland
Italy
Japan
Malaysia
Mexico
Mozambique
New Zealand
Philippines
South Africa
Taiwan
United Kingdom
(Some are missionaries or serve in the military while some are actual citizens of that nation.)

We are honored to have the spiritual feeling of being right next door to one another in real time through faith, through prayer, and the love of Scripture. Thanks go to so many who persevere many regional and cultural differences to stay connected!

Now, are you ready for where you go to church? Hold on to your chairs. This may have stunned me more than our locations. Joyfully, we had numbers of Siestas representing most of them:
Anglican
Assembly of God
Apostleā€™s Churches
African Methodist Episcopal
Baptist (Freewill, Southern, Independent, Missionary. You name it. Iā€™m not saying a word. Iā€™m just grinning. Anyway, itā€™s fair to make fun of your own self. I told AJ that my eyes fell on one called ā€œAngier Baptist Churchā€ and I thought it said, ā€œAngrier Baptist Church.ā€ I was taken aback. So glad my contact had just slipped a tad on my eyeball.)

Beit Yeshua Messianic
Many independent Bible churches
Calvary Chapel
Catholic
Many independent community churches ā€“ Charismatic and Non-charismatic alike
Church of God
Covenant Church
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
Church of Christ
Emergent
Emergent-ish (Made me smile)
Episcopal
Evangelical Free
FCCM (Fellowship of Connected Churches and Ministries)
Foursquare
Friends Church (Quaker)
House Churches
LDS
Lutheran
Mennonite and Evangelical Mennonite (So many! What a joy!)
Messianic Jewish
Methodist
Nazarene
Presbyterian (PCA, EPC, etc.)
Missionary Alliance
Pentecostal Holiness
Reformed
Seventh-day Adventist
The Salvation Army
Vineyard
Willowcreek Association Churches
Wesleyan

(I tried so hard to fasten my eyes to each entry and include every single denomination. If I overlooked one, it was truly an accident.)

Now, for a few special accolades:

Three of my favorite church names:
2nd Runner up: Calvary Chapel Pearl Harbor (Is that cool or what??)

1st Runner up: Raccoon Creek Baptist Church, Georgia (Me and Beanie could both go there! She loves dinner on the grounds after service!)

Grand Prize: Bar-None Cowboy Church (in Texas, of course) ā€œNluvwhim,ā€ please contact the LPM office with your address and request your prize. Yes, Iā€™m serious.

Hereā€™s a titanic WAY TO GO on all those Scriptures and Scriptural concepts! WOW! According to one of our Siestas, Proverbs 3:5-6 was the one most often repeated.
My favorite unfamiliar one:

Psalm 45:1 from ā€œThe Messageā€: ā€œMy heart bursts its banks, spilling beauty and goodness. I pour it out in a poem to the king, shaping the river into words.ā€ Gorgeous!

Gutsiest entry: ā€œWorshipboy Tom,ā€ a proud husband of a siesta! You are a real man indeed! 2000+ Siestas take off our sombreros to you! And then we’re putting them right back on because we have hat-hair. And we hate hat-hair.

Most impressive entry: ā€œKingschild,ā€ mother to over 60 foster children. In unison, 2000+ Siestas and I say of our Siesta-hood, ā€œWeā€™re not worthy!ā€

A few private messages from me to a couple of you: Angela, thank you for your courage. You are welcome here! Firecracker, I am honored to be your servant. Log on any time.

TO ALL OF YOU: AMANDA, MELISSA, THE LPM MINISTRY STAFF AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE HUMBLED TO SERVE YOU OR MORE AWED BY GODā€™S GRACE TO US THROUGH YOU. THANK YOU A THOUSAND TIMES OVER FOR ANSWERING THIS ROLL CALL AND FOR BEING PART OF A COMMUNITY THAT HAS LITERALLY BECOME ONE OF MY FAVORITE AVENUES OF MINISTRY EVER. (Since I gave up my aerobics class, as a matter of fact. Grin.) ALL OF YOU ARE JOYFULLY WELCOME HERE!

May the Name of Jesus wave like a banner over this community and His lavish love be our calling card.

With a whole new appreciation,
Beth

Unity in diversity – it’s an amazing and wonderful thing!
Praise God for it and thanks to you Beth, Amanda, Melissa, LPM staff for all the work you did to make it known to us… that had to have been no small feat!

Wow! I never would have guessed over 2000! But then why not? And I love the name Siestaville. Thank you Beth and Amanda for tallying up the census. And to think that this is your favorite avenue of ministry. I feel honored to be apart of it. Have a great weekend! We want to hear about your Sunday. It’s one of my favorite types of posts and I remember someone else saying the same thing. Lots of Love!

THANK YOU Beth and the entire LPM staff!! This was so exciting to read and be part of! (I came back to it several times during the day to check through the entries with such excitement I could hardly keep my mind on work!!!) One of the most amazing group of Believers “gathered” together in one place – the world wide web is truly a ministry field in itself. But I tell you the BLESSINGS and ALIVENESS of His Word that resounded from the written page as I read through the Scriptures was truly AMAZING! (I just want to go back and read them again!) Some I read with newness and fresh inspiration and others were like a soft warm blanket gathered around me. I am so humbled to be part of the family of God – and one of your siestas!!

Hi there! I wanted to share this with everyone as it really touched my heart!

Renee Swope had this posted to her blogspot on January 14th. (http://reneeswope.blogspot.com/) It’s powerful! She also lists the words. It’s a dramatic poem reading about the woman at the well. Check it out if you are interested.

This has been so overwhelming – in a great way! I want to get a shirt that says “I’m a Siesta!” and walk around my city. When someone asks about it, how fun would it be to explain?!(and also to maybe connect with my Cyber Sistas!!) If you see me in Central AR, don’t be shy!!!!

I was so disappointed that my blog didn’t make it again. Somehow I am just not good at this blogging thing. I was overwhelmed reading the responses, blown away by the sheer numbers of siestas out there and am obviously trying this blogging thing again as I so want to be connected to the rest of you. Thank you Beth, Amanda, and the rest of LPM for putting forth all the time and energy to maintain this blog. I certainly have been encouraged reading this blog.

Who ever dreamed – over 2000? Did ya’ll have a clue? God is SO GOOD! This is my favorite place to be on-line and I’m not on-line that much (weather.com, childrens school website and email). If I go to check my email first I’m chompin at the bit to go to the LPM Blog just to see if there is anything new!

Thank you LPM for your unwavering faithfulness to our Lord and all of us siestas across the globe! God bless you, each one, and keep you and make HIS Holy Face shine upon you – in Jesus name!!

Have a mighty good weekend and thanks again for doing this – it was such a treat (better than chips and cheese dip!!)

I am so blog/technology challenged that I did not see the comment that I sent on the 16th, and then felt left out when I saw that the comments were closed. But my state and denomination made it in so I’m covered. I’ve been enjoying this blog for quite some time, but if this makes it in I may become a regular blogging siesta.

Beth, thank you for sharing so much of yourself with all of us. I have learned so much through you and your studies, and the best part is not just head knowledge, but the kind that brings about heart change, and a deeper love and relationship with the Lord. All Glory to God!

As I was reading the list of US states, my 8 year old daughter came up behind me and started singing the “Nifty Fifty United States” song she learned last year in 2nd grade. It, of course includes every state (in alphbetical order). We were both tickled to get to the end and realize they were ALL there.

Of course after that I was blown away by the siestas representing so many of the other countries around the globe.

I’m sure (Amanda & Beth) you never thought your blog would touch so many people so far across our world. God always thinks so much bigger than we do. I, for one, am glad He does!! Praise Him!

It was really refreshing for me to see how many different denominations are out there just loving to hear a word from God. I attend a Catholic church and it has just been in the past few years that I’ve (GLADLY!!) realized that not just one denomination (not that I thought it was mine) is actually the “right” one. Now don’t get me wrong, no one ever *told me* that that was the case, I just assumed it and was pretty lost because of it.

My life has changed so profoundly with Beth’s teachings. I can’t explain it here, but thankfully Jesus knows it.

Thanks to all of you, and of course, thanks to the Moore family. I am learning everyday!

Great will be your reward, Ms. Beth. 2200+ is just a SMALL sampling of the hundreds of thousands (if not millions!) that you have touched. And then, we in turn get to reach out to those in our own circle of influence…and it goes on and on. I know I wouldn’t be where I am in my walk today if it wasn’t for the LOVE for God’s Word that you have poured into me. My prayer is for you to be blessed beyond measure as you reap what you continue to sow.
    Blessing to ALL!

As bookworman posted, I too have been a fan of this blog from nearly it’s beginning. The roll call post was the first to give me the confidence to traverse unknown waters and respond. Being the kind who at any large gathering will be on the sidelines silently observing and taking notes, when I read Beth’s request my thought was, I bet they’ll be suprised at the response they get. Many times before I’ve wanted to respond but could never find the words that haven’t already been said a million times to try to get LPM ministry to understand what a difference they make.

Two lessons I will take from this post. 1) When you are walking and serving where God wants you and you get discouraged because you can’t see any results, or any “major” results — don’t give up — there may be many “silent” ones who are watching and receiving exactly what God has for them. 2) Be careful and protective of your testimony — there may be many “silent” ones watching. And in God’s time, if you need to know you are making a difference, he will find a way for it to happen. Thanks for all LPM does and especially for the bible studies.

    Beth,

As I was reviewing Colossians this morning, I got to Col. 3:11 and thought it so described your ministry and this blog. It says,
“Here there is no Jew or Greek, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all and is in all.” Isn’t that a picture of us Siestas! Praise God for all of us, and that we are defined by Him, not by our differences!

Okay…I was just about to comment about how you must have an amazing team of elves to do all that tallying so quickly, but I just read Amanda’s post. You’ve got to be kidding me!!! Beth, how did you have the time to read all of the comments?? Did you skip your breaking free homework one day? My house needs a serious cleaning after these last few days!! As one of your joyful Canadian sisters who just loved the intimate, God-ordained time we spent together at Cedar Grove Church in 2004, I can’t wait for your visit to Vancouver in a few short weeks (post wedding). Loved this post and the encouragement about unity….this is so vital a teaching. I just read “I Sold My Soul on eBay” written by an atheist who wonders why there are so many denominations….good question eh? We must be unified for unbelievers to see Christ!! For crying out loud, half the time a church can’t even be unified within their own four walls. Help Me!! Can’t help but think of Don Piper’s experience in heaven (90 Minutes in Heaven )…wondering if part of our welcoming committee will be 2000+ Siestas!!! What a day that will be!! Have a blast getting ready for the wedding!!! Love to you all….

Great job in compiling! What is so funny (and SOOO dumb blond on my part), is that I got so excited about the blogs that I called the LPM office to make AJ and yourself “aware” of a couple that just blew my mind with excitement, only to realize after I called and left a message, that DUH…the reason I could even read about them was because of AJ and yourself sifting through them! Hello! As my friend would say,
“sometimes I am blonder than I pay to be!” (Grin!) Thank you for doing this- I was truly humbled and thrilled because I feel like we are family, and if it feels like it now, well, hold on to those hats and sunglasses, I can hardly wait till Heaven! So much praising to do!

What I am finding so wonderful about the Unity in Diversity here in Siestaville is that you as our leaders (LPM et al) are living in expectancy instead of expectation. We here in Siestaville can just “Be,” aaannnddd you don’t treat us as your responsability, but you treat us with response – ability!

I’m just now getting back here after reading this list out loud with tears in my voice to my precious DP, who laughs at the idea of “siestas” but still knows how important it is to me and values my association here. (How’s that for a run-on sentence?)

This SO touched my heart, Beth. I say a hearty thank you to all the LPM staff and to Amanda who gathered all this info. into something readable and thoroughly enjoyable.

All of the roll call was so heavy on my mind and full to bursting on my heart as I went to sleep last night. Much to my surprise, my DP told me as he went to bed I murmured “Beth” with a big grin on my face in my sleep.

I fully believe God had me praying for all of these dear women that are forever linked now via this blog (because I NEVER talk in my sleep.)

Married to “my man” and best friend for 17 years, 11 months, and 22 days….yep, our 18th anniversary is in 9 days :)) and homeschooling momma to 4 beautiful blessings

Favorite Truth (today :)) is one I just re-discovered through our study through “Stepping Up Journey through Psalms of Ascent”…. Psalm 121

Beth your “story”, your journey with God, and your gift of putting God’s message for ME on paper and DVD has been a rich blessing not only to me, but also my family. My darling 14 year old (she’ll be 15 on Valentine’s Day) daughter is going through the new study as well, she is excited to get into the word with “Aunt Beth” :)!

Looking really forward to seeing you in San Diego. It’s a long drive, but totally worth it to see you! Wish you’d come back to Fresno again….that was a blast in 12/05!

    Blessings!

Awesome! I don’t know if I am an official “siesta” since I don’t get to check the blog but once a week or so and rarely post. I did not get the chance to weigh in on the “survery” because my daughter just got casts on both feet (to correct toe walking). It’s been a crazy week here. Anyway, First Baptist Richmond, Virginia, checking in! I loved seeing all the diversity! Praise God!

This site has been a blessing. Not only am I encouraged by Beth, Melissa and Amanda’s posts, but I have made friends with and been encouraged by Siestas from around the country.

This roll call was a great reminder that Christ is all about The Church (His entire body, everyone that believe in Him)not a church (the building you walk in to worship).

Thanks ladies for all you do.

    Beth and Amanda,
How so very fun to see those lists! How awesome it is to see the internet being used for holy purposes!!!

Is there any chance I could sweet-talk y’all into doing a Living Proof Live event in Hawaii??? Pretty, pretty please??

    Much love to you,
    Kristen in Hawaii

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! I guess most of the siestas are blogger-peepers and not comment posters much like myself.

That was fun to see who really is out there. Thanks!

Beth, You need to publish these fact, stats, whatever you call it and share the encouraging thoughts about the internet being used for God’s good.
And I was so happy you mentioned Angela, with a kindred name, Angela I have been praying for you since I read your entry.
Thank you for taking the time to go thru the posts LPM!
    Praising Him!
