Five Minute Friday

Friday greetings, y’all!

On a whim I decided to jump on here and share a bit of the randomness in my head. It’s called five minute Friday. It’s not new. It’s not original. But it’s sometimes fun and a lot of other bloggers do it, so why not jump on the bandwagon this morning?

So, I’m setting my timer for five minutes, literally, and at the end of this post, I suppose we’ll all see where my finger tapping took me. Beware, none of it will have anything to do with each other. Okay? Okay.

Ready…set…type!

– I’m learning more and more that it’s always better to give more grace than you feel like giving. Whoa. That’s hard. But where would we be if the Lord only gave us grace dependent on how He was feeling that day? Oh no. We’d be a puddle.

– I’m also learning, probably the hard way, that sometimes it’s better to keep your mouth shut. If you have nothing kind to say, don’t say anything at all.

– I’ve had to administer drugs to myself in the form of NyQuil all week long. I can’t decide if the scratchy throat and stuffy head is due to allergies or sinuses, but either way, I’m ready for the junk to move along.

– Fall is sloooooowly creeping into Houston. And by slow I mean the high is 84 degrees today. What?

– I am currently wearing a t-shirt that says, “Y’all”. That’s all. I kind of love it. I recently got it from an antique shop called Junk Gypsy in Round Top, Texas and it makes me so happy. As Kinky Friedman once said, “Y’all is singular. All y’all is plural. All y’all’s is plural possessive.” And all the Texans said amen.

Yup, I just took a selfie. It’s five minute Friday, y’all. What more could you expect? Plus, I really wanted y’all to see the cuteness that is this t-shirt, you know, since I don’t typically wear t-shirts. Smile.

– When one’s throat is sore, chocolate milk for the win. (I don’t want to hear if it’s bad for me, I just want you to know that it feels good.)

– Yesterday we had some visitors at LPM. Jefferson Bethke and his wife Alyssa. If you’ve not heard of Jefferson, he recently (this week) released a book called Jesus > Religion and also, Jefferson is very gifted in the way he brings the Word to people. He brings it through a poetic stance that we sometimes label as spoken word. If you’re looking for something to do today, go look him up on YouTube. You will not be disappointed. They were so genuine, so easy, so fun and so clearly love Jesus. The kind of people you just see yourself being best friends with. (Side note: Beth and I both only knew Jefferson through Twitter. That is what is so fun about social networking, one day you’re Twitter friends, and the next day you’re real life friends. Or, like many of you have experienced, one day you’re blog friends and the next day you’re real life friends. So crazy, y’all.)

Beth, Alyssa, and Jefferson.

And then I hopped in the picture. So fun.

– Oh, I wanted to tell you all (y’all) thank you so much for your sweet words about my Grandpa. I read every last word. And thank you for sharing your struggles and losses, too. Your authenticity and vulnerability encouraged me. Life is hard. But how fun that we have this neat community to encourage each other and lift each other’s heads up? I’m so grateful.

– I was reading through an old journal very recently, (some old journals make me want to sob and some I want to shred and throw away, can you relate?) and anyway, I ran across this sentence I wrote and it was a fresh wind to my soul. While faith is the doorway, grace is where we stand, but hope is our fuel.Β

– This I know, if we’re not being fueled by the hope of Jesus Christ, we’re looking to something else to keep our weary engines rolling, and sister, this I know, it will come up dry. Every time. The hope of Jesus Christ is our fuel. Hope in Him today. He’s got you. He’s carrying you.

Welp! My timer just went off. I’m going to cheat now and add one picture.

Your turn! But to keep the comments slightly bearable, let’s make it one minute Friday. I promise you, one minute will FLY by.

That was fun! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I love y’all so very much.

You know what, Adrienne, I don’t know if they’re making a new episode or not?! I do know that they just moved their headquarters to a new and fun little house in Round Top, so who knows what’s around the corner!

Thanks Lindsee! My world is crazy right now and your randomness is just what I needed! Your shirt reminds me of a man I saw yesterday who had a shirt that said “Hi” and he told me he forgot he had it on and a lady said hi to him and he was like “Well Hello!” And then she just kept walking and he realized he had that shirt on! It was so funny to hear him tell the story! He is a widow who is looking for a companion so it was kinda sad too! But he laughed anyways! Ok my minute is up! Haven’t read your last post yet so I will do that now! πŸ™‚

Hope in Jesus is my fuel….what a perfect truth for today! Thank you! I so enjoy your posts.

I look forward to meeting you in January at the SSMTC! (I watched you help lead worship on Christmas Eve in 2011 when my husband and I were visiting Houston!)

Loved your t-shirt Lindsee! Five Minute Friday is great fun, there is a twitter party on Thursday nights #FMFparty and a prompt is given for five minute friday posts – this friday’s prompt is Ordinary.
Grace is never ordinary – it is extraordinary that God would even extend it to us, He does this so faithfully that sometimes we miss the miracle.

I so “one minuted” my sweet and awesome sister in a text this morning all about how I had five mosquito bites and three ant bites and how I have now taken to doing my middle daughter’s hair in the car in that awkward time between kinder drop off and time for my class to start at the gym and people must think I am weird because I am crouched in the backseat doing hair…ok, that’s all! Happy Friday y’all!

    Hey guys,
So, I got to come home early from work. Not really early but early for me. I usually lesson plan until dark in my classroom but due to circumstances beyond my control had to lesson plan yesterday so happy Friday to me. Drove home with the radio cranked up and a huge smile on my face because Jesus has seen fit to allow me to work with someone I truly love. She loves Jesus too and it is just a sweet oasis in all the chaos of an elementary school. I feel loved and appreciated every day. What a rare find in today’s world. The Lord continues to bless me beyond it all. Love you Lindsee and how totally fun you are.

I am sorry about the loss of your grandpa.

I love the randomness of this post. I kind of reminds me about the crazy ball of thoughts that run threw my head at any given moment. It drives my poor hubby a little nuts cause when we are talking I am all over the place and back again. Poor guy.

    Sandy Bowers says:

Hey Lindsee! You are so stinkin’ cute with your random posts. LOL. Here’s my five (one) minute Friday: Week full of crazy kindergartners is finally over. Whew! But I love them! Weather is G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S. I have a scratchy throat and head stuffy, too, along with a voice that is disappearing as the evening progresses. Friday night football finds our local HS at 7-0 with 3 games to go! Playoffs, here we come. Sending siesta hugs to all!

P.S. One minute is not enough….I must confess that I cheated and paused the timer while I thought of what to write. πŸ™‚

I’m smiling as I Swype this. Your first point was grace. Yesterday I had to choose to not be angry, hence, giving grace. Right now I’m at a woman’s retreat and although our theme may be chocolate,, we are studying the grace of Jesus. I’m thinking that I’m supposed to be paying attention. What do you think?… πŸ™‚

Just got back from our little town’s football game. Middle of the 3rd quarter and we are winning 40-0. I know it is weird, but I always want the opposing team to at least score, even if it is only 3 points. I love football, and am from Oklahoma, so tomorrow we have the big OU/TX rivalry!!!! I love all my Texas siestas, but oh, I’m so hoping OU wins! Either way, I hope it is a really tight game, those are the best!

Something that hasn’t left my mind all day is the attitude of a friend that came back into my life via facebook. (I hate facebook; just use it to see family photos), anyway, she’s getting married, I was rejoicing with her but in a funny way and she took something the wrong way. When I tryed to explan the joke she just “unfriend” me from her list. Woosh… into my life and woosh out of my life. It’s been on my mind all day. Is our world really becoming that cold and heartless. πŸ™

Also, if you are a fast typest you can write a lot in a minute. πŸ™‚

Work ran a little late this afternoon. I don’t mind. I love my work ~ I’m a dental assistant. I’ve had two jobs that I really loved. The first one was a homeschool mom for 20 years. I homeschooled both my boys all the way to college. Then I became a dental assistant. I wanted to be a dentist when I went to college, but 2 years into it, I got a Mrs. degree instead. πŸ™‚ I’ve been a dental assistant for 5 years and I love it! God is good to me!

    Hi Lindsee!
Hope you’re feeling better! I have to tell you my Y’all story!
I started attending a new church after a long and wearisome search for a new church home and I didn’t know anyone…my friend’s husband was pastor at my old church and they got called away to another…so I was missing her so! I prayed to God that He could replace her with someone just like her and even “reminded” ha! Him of her southern accent and the way she would use the oh so cute term Y’all. The next morning as I walked into my new church, this cute little lady comes walking over to me and says “How Y’all doing?”
    Wow! That was fast!!!
We are becoming fast friends and I am Loving How God Sees each one of us!!
    Happy Fall Y’all!!!

    Hey Lindsee,

So sorry to hear about your grandpa. Bittersweet memories as my mom went home to the Lord 3 years ago this week. Will pray for God’s peace and comfort to just envelop you.

Love your phrase about faith being the doorway but grace is where we stand and hope is our fuel. Hhmmm, might have to make that today’s motto!

Looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the wonder staff at LPM at the SSMT in January! Just so excited to being able to attend (it’s my Christmas gift from my hubby!)

I wish I had seen this yesterday! I was sitting on the couch holding a sick toddler all day, all but a few quick trips to the bathroom anyway. Umcka is an amazing very concentrated cold care remedy available at health food stores. I went in with my toddler and they recommended this product (all ages) so I purchased it with hopes of it helping her (after being up 6ish times Thursday night). Sudafed type of products do not work in our family, however Umcka worked! Wheezing stopped, fever broke, congestion was greatly reduced and she even laughed at her big brother’s antics! She still wanted to be close all day. She was able to sleep during the night except to eat 2x. That probably is enough randomness but I have to throw in I am a very cranky person when woken too many times during the except when I have prayed…patience and compassion are pouring from me even on the 5th time. This is a time I know when it is God’s compassion and patience pouring out of me to my little ones because I do not contain that level during the night!! We certainly serve an amazing God and I LOVE it when there are times that I can see Himself pouring out of me as a result of the prayer request for it. Tears of thankfulness and awe at God are in my eyes now. His heart is very tender for the little children!

Oh. I’m late to the party. It’s Saturday now and “One Minute Saturday” sounds kinda lame. But I can hang with you on the random side of things; in that, sometime earlier today I heard a Christmas song and now my head is just bursting with little one-line snippets like, “…come and behold Him, born the King of angels” and “…let every heart prepare Him room,” and “…peace on earth and mercy mild.” Goodness. Apparently Christmas can never come too early for my liking ~

I LOVE THIS, YOUR QUOTE: “While faith is the doorway, grace is where we stand, but hope is our fuel. This I know, if we’re not being fueled by the hope of Jesus Christ, we’re looking to something else to keep our weary engines rolling, and sister, this I know, it will come up dry. Every time. The hope of Jesus Christ is our fuel. Hope in Him today. He’s got you. He’s carrying you.” End Quote. Wow I love this! Thanks!
This really hit me tonight of all nights. Been contrasting “HOPE” definitions: ones from the world/from nonbelievers contrasted with WORD/believers. WORLD/WORD= difference=L= LORD…LORD= HOPE! So many contrasts to what “HOPE” means between these two kingdoms and even within the KINGDOM (religion /relationship contrast of HOPE) and what it means to me. I loved the clear HOPE IN CHRIST you quoted! He is the ONLY ONE who GAVE ALL HE IS AND HAS for our atonement, ransom, redemption, restoration, reconciliation,…….. re-connection to THE FATHER! HE IS HOPE INCARNATE, HOPE EMMANUEL, HOPE INFINITE, HOPE ETERNAL! HE IS CHRIST THE LORD, CHRIST THE HOPE OF GLORY!
Thanks for Five Minute Friday. I should have timed this and made it seven minute Saturday! Saturday night is alright with me…remember that song? Probably before your time. O well. Fondly and IN ALL HOPE OF CHRIST, Deb

    Lindsee,

It would be so fantabulously fantastic if you did a 5 minute blog as a weekly or bi-weekly thing.

I’m an author but trying to fit everything into my day seems to leave no time for writing. Right now I’m just at the whole writing prompts, partial short stories, poems place but you have inspired me.

I once had a creative writing teacher (very encouraging) who stressed the importance of writing EVERY day and I have read Tricia Goyer say the same thing. But how on earth? A 15-minute writing session! What a superb idea (I use uncommon or “big” words to sound silly, not nose-in-the-air smart) Thank you. I hope some day you pick up one of my books and say to yourself ‘hmmm, I really got that girl going!’ (and then buy it and read it :). Cheers!

I’m hoping to see some more 5-minute posts in the near future!

    God bless y’all.
