Hey, my dear loved ones!
I believe God has placed something on my heart for us to do here in our community for the next several vital days on our nation’s calendar. It will take place in two parts.
Part One: Today and for the next twenty-four hours in comments to this post, those who are willing are going to comprise prayers drawn from Scripture for our new president and the nation he will lead. These Scriptures incorporated into prayers don’t have to be limited to the ones we’re most accustomed to seeing for leaders. By all means, look at those but also consider a Bible-full of precepts that speak to character and integrity and the many qualities that comprise a great leader. See how the Holy Spirit might lay them on your heart and turn them into intercession. Also consider Scriptures that speak to issues like protection from harm for our president and for our nation and wholeness of heart.
If you need a launching point for your thoughts, think about how you’d want people to pray for your husband if he were elected president tomorrow. Go from there. Make it any length from a few sentences to a meaty paragraph but not long. Remember what Jesus said about those wanting to be heard for their many words in prayer. Keep it succinct and sincere. This is really important and you’ll see the reasons why during Part Two. The comments to this post will be limited entirely to prayers. Please add no other words or comments or even greetings or replies to one another on this one. Let’s just do the thing that really makes the difference. Refrain from signing your name to the bottom of it because you’re going to see in Part Two that others will be using it. Just sign off with an “Amen” or similar benediction but do indeed list any references for the verses your prayers were based on.
The most important discipline of this process is writing our prayers before we know who our president will be. Needless to say, other petitions specific to the man who is elected will be vital throughout his presidency but for this public format and for this 24-hour period of time, we’re going to write our prayers without knowing who it will be. I think (and hope!) we will find this approach very effective and helpful in our focus and prayer-direction throughout Part Two. Oftentimes, heightened emotion and opinion cloud focus, clarity, and wisdom in our prayer lives, especially with so much at stake. It’s hard to pray according to the Holy Spirit when our flesh is inflamed. Remember at the end of all of this, our God is sovereign and at no time does He lose control.
Your prayer will need to take this basic skeletal form:
Address God the way you feel led (Dear Father in Heaven or Creator of Heaven and Earth or Sovereign Lord, etc.)
Write the petition for our new president and for our nation.
Conclude it “In Jesus’ Name, Amen” or with something of similar intent and assigned authority.
List all Scripture references that your prayers were drawn from or based on. (Just the locations. You do not need to write them all the way out.)
Part Two: 24-hours or so after this post opens for comment, it will be closed. In other words, by mid-morning Tuesday, November 6th (Election Day) there will be no further way to leave additional comments but you will have full access to all of those already written. (Comments that come in after work hours this evening will all be posted before the 24-hour closure so don’t worry. If you write a prayer before the 24 hours is up, it will get posted when Lindsee is able to complete all moderations. It takes a while.)
After the election results are in, here’s what I’m suggesting. This is the time we get to reap the harvest sown in Part One. Come back to this post and start voicing a number of these prayers that resonate most with you. More importantly perhaps, consider voicing the ones that may be harder for you but you know they are godly, sound, and Scriptural. If you’re less sure about some of them, look up the Scripture references the intercessor listed and see if the context gives you any insight or direction. You can use this as a resource for your prayers not only in this 48-hour period but in days to come. Consider praying several of them per day until you work your way through them. That’s what I’m going to shoot for. I’m hoping to print them out and stick them in my prayer journal and voice several at a time over the weeks to come until I’ve agreed in prayer with practically all of them.
I’m not remotely suggesting this is the only way to pray for the next few days and in the weeks to come. It’s just one way but I really do believe this is the approach God placed upon my heart for our blog community. I’m looking so forward to harvesting some of this fruit in the coming days and there is no doubt in my mind that it will help direct my petitions and cause me to intercede for things I would have overlooked. I am continually inspired in my prayer life by the powerful prayers of others. Aren’t you? Let’s do this, Sisters. I think blessing awaits us and, far more importantly, awaits our new president.
I love you so dearly, ladies. My word, we’ve been around long enough to spend our second election together. I pray with all my heart that God will be pleased with this community and will use it to encourage and edify the Body of Christ in a way only He can empower or explain. He is so worthy of our trust and He is well able and willing to respond to earnest prayers that align with His will and come to Him through the glorious, saving Name of His Son.
Before I sign off, all three Moore-Jones-Fitzpatrick girls could use your prayers! We are all headed to the other side of the world and to two different locations. Later today Melissa and I will board a plane for Greece for a dual-purpose trip over the next 7 days. (Voted early) As guests of Nick and Christine Caine, we will have the privilege of seeing some of the work of the A21 Campaign (Abolishing Injustice in the 21st Century) from a much closer angle and attend (and serve at) a conference there. I love nothing better than seeing what God is doing around this globe. God is using this time on the Kingdom calendar to expose horrendous injustices – particularly in the areas of human trafficking – that need to be fought by the Body of Christ. (See Isaiah 58!)
Melissa and I are also beginning a new Bible study journey together and, with the help of a guide, will be doing research in some very strategic places involved in the series. You will not waste a prayer on us! Pray for God to show us great and mighty things that we do not know (Jeremiah 33:3) and bless us with powerful encounters and insights and help us to serve people effectively and affectionately there amid such cultural differences. We are certain they will be a blessing of God to us but we want so much to also be a blessing of God to them. THEN, Amanda follows right behind us two days later (on Wednesday) heading to India for a very important mission trip with the organization “As Our Own.” Even in our very different destinations, all three of us will be serving in areas where human trafficking is appallingly prevalent and believers are being mobilized slowly but surely to cry out and labor for its end.

Provide him with strength and courage to lead the nation and to make tough decisions, even when it may not be the popular choice (Joshua 1:6-9). I pray that he will inspire unity and growth among the citizens of this country (Romans 15:5). Finally, I pray for his marriage and his family, Lord. That he will have the support and encouragement and stability he needs handle the responsibilities you set before him. In Jesus’ powerful name! Amen.

You are in control. You know what lies ahead. Your plan has been laid out since before our existence. We know you have established all authority according to Your will. Lord of all, we humbly bow before you and ask that you guide us in the selection of our new president. We therefore beseech you to send your Holy Spirit to the leader of our country, enabling him to understand that he is only an instrument, and that he has the responsibility to lead by example in showing the rest of the world that in our land, there must be no other gods before you (Exodus 20:3). Help him to know and to trust and to believe that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and our ONLY path to salvation (John 14:6), and to demonstrate that faith by his actions here and abroad. And during times of greatest stress and turmoil, when he may not even know what he ought to pray for, give him the assurance that the Spirit will intercede in his weakness (Romans 8:26). Abba, we trust You, and we lift up our new leader, knowing that in all things, You work for the good of those who love You, who have been called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28).

Our Lord Jesus Christ, our economy is still recovering. Many continue to suffer with unemployment, underemployment, homelessness and just struggling to make ends meet. Many have lost hope, Father. We pray, Lord, that our President will have the leaderships skills like Nehemiah and be seek your leadership. Nehemiah sacraficed what was allotted to him for the good of his people. May our President be the leader of Congress and our elected officials to the same and truly lead us to recovery. May our President lead us all to live as children of light with “all goodness, righteousness and truth” and “find what pleases the Lord.” In Jesus name. Amen.

Father,
According to Romans 8:26, may Your Holy Spirit help us in our weakness, for we oftentimes do not know what to pray, but we ask for Your will. We acknowledge that “the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express, and he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with [Your] will.” We also thank You Jesus for making intercession for for us at the right hand of the Father at this time (Romans 8:34). We know that regardless of how bleak the condition of our nation, which our new President will face when he takes office, that in Christ our Savior we are overcoming “in” all of these things. We pray that our new President would seek Your face. Turn his heart toward You, Lord, that he may have eternal life–knowing You, the one true God and Your only Son, Jesus, who came for us. (John 17:3) In His all-powerful name, amen.

How Good it is You never change. Over and over You have spoken Your Word this week…”If My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My Face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” Father, you claim us as Your people. And so, on behalf of my family, I humble myself and my family/nation before You. I want only You for us Lord Jesus. No other god nor idol can compare to Your Greatness. There is no other satisfaction that what You have provided. Great is Your Faithfulness! I acknowledge our failure. We have sinned, we are broken. But You are a Redeeming God and we call out to You by the Powerful Name of Jesus, to come and rescue/revive us once again. We’ve done all we know to do and now we just stand by Your side. Bestow Your wisdom and knowledge to our leaders and know our hearts are grateful. We cannot respond in any other way but in pure gratitude knowing You hear us, just as Your Word promises. I pray for the man who will be our next President. God I pray that he will seek your guidance as he leads our country. Dear LORD, Thank you that we live in a country where we have the freedom to choose our leaders. I pray for the man elected tomorrow. You O LORD are allowing him to lead our country for the next four years. You are sovereign LORD. You know already who it is and have a plan for all of us that love You. Let our president seek You and help to turn our nation back to a God fearing one.

Oh great God we come before you with great expectation for our future president. Rise up a man who will come in your name – whose ways are from your very heart. Father, we are a people that have been devastated with financial ruin, separation of families, loneliness, despair, loss but most of all so many of us have turned from you or simply don’t know you. In your mighty name Jesus, use this president to change our course – to restore those places that have long been devastated. Fill him with wisdom, compassion and your very heart. Thank you my Jesus. Amen
Our Father in Heaven, teach our President lessons for living so he can stay the course. Give him insight so he can do what you tell him— his whole life one long, obedient response. Guide him down the road of your commandments; teach him to love traveling this freeway! Give him a bent for your words of wisdom, and not for piling up loot. Divert his eyes from toys and trinkets, invigorate him on the pilgrim way. Affirm your promises to our country— promises made to all who fear you. Deflect the harsh words of our critics— but what you say is always so good. See how hungry we are for your counsel; preserve our life through your righteous ways! In Jesus sweet name, Amen!
Psalm 119:33-40 The Message
Our Sovereign Lord,
We praise You, Father, for who You are. You are the Creator of all things and You hold all world events in Your loving hands.
Lord God, we confess our sins as American people. We confess our nation’s idolatry, our greed, our pride, and our refusal to submit ourselves to Your truth and to Your ways. We confess and grieve over all the ways we have dishonored Your name.
Lord, as You’ve directed in Your Word, we come boldly before Your throne of grace and ask for Your mercy and help in our nation’s time of need (Heb 4:16). How we pray that our next president will be a man who humbly seeks You above all else. Lord Jesus, we pray for a miraculous return to You as a nation, for a repentance and a revival of Your truth that has never been seen before in America. May the results of this election be used by You to bring this about.
Father God, even as we rejoice in Your kingdom that will never end, we pray that You would shower Your mercy upon our land that we might once again become a nation that glorifies You and is led by a man uncompromisingly committed to Your Truth. We place the election results and every part of our lives into Your powerful hands. Transform each of us and our country by the renewal of our minds as we trust in Your good, acceptable and perfect will (Rom 12:2).

Sovereign LORD,
We praise and thank you that you will be in control no matter who is our leader….That “Kings will see and stand up, and princes will bow down” because of You, and your faithfulness to your all of your chosen ones. May our new leader seek to be an ally to Israel. (Isaiah 49:7)
We pray that our new leader will have Your favor, and You will help us under him. You will keep us, and guide him to restore the land, this nation, our great & blessed country. (Isaiah 49:8)

We praise You for Your goodness and mercy! You are worthy of all praise and glory; there is NONE like You. Today, O Lord, we lift up our earthly leader of our wonderful country to You- we ask for wisdom for this man and his staff; we ask for clear direction from You and a heart to know You and follow You- May He hear Your voice and obey Your commands. We bow before You O Lord and worship and adore You!

Father,
Your Word says “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” Thank you for being with us as we enter into a new season of our lives. We lift up our current President and our future President. I pray that whoever enters the head office know and acknowledge who is Head of all. May he hear Your voice and not ignore it, but listen with an open heart; one that is ready and steadfast. May he humble himself as a servant to you and unto all. May he praise your name always.
If his relationship is not where it should be then I pray for the right people to enter his life and provide encouragement, truth, and wisdom to his life. Father, we will all one day bow our knees to you!
Thank you for directing the steps of all our future leaders. If they do not know you I pray that You would make Yourself known to them. May their decisions not be based on what is popular, but what is in line with Your Word.
I pray for this nation – may we never forget to be One Nation Under God. Praise to Your Holy Name! You are worthy to be praised and we come together and humble ourselves to you. Hallelujah and Amen!
