Hey, my dear loved ones!
I believe God has placed something on my heart for us to do here in our community for the next several vital days on our nation’s calendar. It will take place in two parts.
Part One: Today and for the next twenty-four hours in comments to this post, those who are willing are going to comprise prayers drawn from Scripture for our new president and the nation he will lead. These Scriptures incorporated into prayers don’t have to be limited to the ones we’re most accustomed to seeing for leaders. By all means, look at those but also consider a Bible-full of precepts that speak to character and integrity and the many qualities that comprise a great leader. See how the Holy Spirit might lay them on your heart and turn them into intercession. Also consider Scriptures that speak to issues like protection from harm for our president and for our nation and wholeness of heart.
If you need a launching point for your thoughts, think about how you’d want people to pray for your husband if he were elected president tomorrow. Go from there. Make it any length from a few sentences to a meaty paragraph but not long. Remember what Jesus said about those wanting to be heard for their many words in prayer. Keep it succinct and sincere. This is really important and you’ll see the reasons why during Part Two. The comments to this post will be limited entirely to prayers. Please add no other words or comments or even greetings or replies to one another on this one. Let’s just do the thing that really makes the difference. Refrain from signing your name to the bottom of it because you’re going to see in Part Two that others will be using it. Just sign off with an “Amen” or similar benediction but do indeed list any references for the verses your prayers were based on.
The most important discipline of this process is writing our prayers before we know who our president will be. Needless to say, other petitions specific to the man who is elected will be vital throughout his presidency but for this public format and for this 24-hour period of time, we’re going to write our prayers without knowing who it will be. I think (and hope!) we will find this approach very effective and helpful in our focus and prayer-direction throughout Part Two. Oftentimes, heightened emotion and opinion cloud focus, clarity, and wisdom in our prayer lives, especially with so much at stake. It’s hard to pray according to the Holy Spirit when our flesh is inflamed. Remember at the end of all of this, our God is sovereign and at no time does He lose control.
Your prayer will need to take this basic skeletal form:
Address God the way you feel led (Dear Father in Heaven or Creator of Heaven and Earth or Sovereign Lord, etc.)
Write the petition for our new president and for our nation.
Conclude it “In Jesus’ Name, Amen” or with something of similar intent and assigned authority.
List all Scripture references that your prayers were drawn from or based on. (Just the locations. You do not need to write them all the way out.)
Part Two: 24-hours or so after this post opens for comment, it will be closed. In other words, by mid-morning Tuesday, November 6th (Election Day) there will be no further way to leave additional comments but you will have full access to all of those already written. (Comments that come in after work hours this evening will all be posted before the 24-hour closure so don’t worry. If you write a prayer before the 24 hours is up, it will get posted when Lindsee is able to complete all moderations. It takes a while.)
After the election results are in, here’s what I’m suggesting. This is the time we get to reap the harvest sown in Part One. Come back to this post and start voicing a number of these prayers that resonate most with you. More importantly perhaps, consider voicing the ones that may be harder for you but you know they are godly, sound, and Scriptural. If you’re less sure about some of them, look up the Scripture references the intercessor listed and see if the context gives you any insight or direction. You can use this as a resource for your prayers not only in this 48-hour period but in days to come. Consider praying several of them per day until you work your way through them. That’s what I’m going to shoot for. I’m hoping to print them out and stick them in my prayer journal and voice several at a time over the weeks to come until I’ve agreed in prayer with practically all of them.
I’m not remotely suggesting this is the only way to pray for the next few days and in the weeks to come. It’s just one way but I really do believe this is the approach God placed upon my heart for our blog community. I’m looking so forward to harvesting some of this fruit in the coming days and there is no doubt in my mind that it will help direct my petitions and cause me to intercede for things I would have overlooked. I am continually inspired in my prayer life by the powerful prayers of others. Aren’t you? Let’s do this, Sisters. I think blessing awaits us and, far more importantly, awaits our new president.
I love you so dearly, ladies. My word, we’ve been around long enough to spend our second election together. I pray with all my heart that God will be pleased with this community and will use it to encourage and edify the Body of Christ in a way only He can empower or explain. He is so worthy of our trust and He is well able and willing to respond to earnest prayers that align with His will and come to Him through the glorious, saving Name of His Son.
Before I sign off, all three Moore-Jones-Fitzpatrick girls could use your prayers! We are all headed to the other side of the world and to two different locations. Later today Melissa and I will board a plane for Greece for a dual-purpose trip over the next 7 days. (Voted early) As guests of Nick and Christine Caine, we will have the privilege of seeing some of the work of the A21 Campaign (Abolishing Injustice in the 21st Century) from a much closer angle and attend (and serve at) a conference there. I love nothing better than seeing what God is doing around this globe. God is using this time on the Kingdom calendar to expose horrendous injustices – particularly in the areas of human trafficking – that need to be fought by the Body of Christ. (See Isaiah 58!)
Melissa and I are also beginning a new Bible study journey together and, with the help of a guide, will be doing research in some very strategic places involved in the series. You will not waste a prayer on us! Pray for God to show us great and mighty things that we do not know (Jeremiah 33:3) and bless us with powerful encounters and insights and help us to serve people effectively and affectionately there amid such cultural differences. We are certain they will be a blessing of God to us but we want so much to also be a blessing of God to them. THEN, Amanda follows right behind us two days later (on Wednesday) heading to India for a very important mission trip with the organization “As Our Own.” Even in our very different destinations, all three of us will be serving in areas where human trafficking is appallingly prevalent and believers are being mobilized slowly but surely to cry out and labor for its end.

We thank you for the privilege of living in a land of relative freedom where we have a voice in deciding leadership. Give us wisdom to make the right decision. Let our president be like Caleb, a man who speaks Your words and has faith in You. Give him courage to be different in the face of opposition. Guide him in Your truth that he may lead us in the right direction. Give him ears to hear Your voice and focus to do Your will.

With Thanksgiving, I submit to your authority as the omnipotent Father who remains in control. You have allowed this man, the next President of the United States to be placed in authority. May he call on your ultimate authority as he governs. Lord I pray first things first. Father, we earnestly pray that our President will be a man who has the moral fortitude to stand for strong Biblical values – a man who loves You and strives to lead our country in the way it should go. You are sovereign, Lord, and we believe that You set the leaders in place for Your glory. We pray that You will hear our prayers and heal our land as we turn to You in repentance. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Father, I am SO thankful that your Word says that we are not to be anxious about anything– including elections, 🙂 but we are to bring everything to You with prayer and petitions. Thank you Lord, that we can pray with thanksgiving,knowing that when we do the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. I am SO thankful Father that YOU are the one in control, and I can trust YOU, no matter who is elected. We put this election in YOUR hands. In Jesus powerful name, amen

Father God, Please lay Your Word on our President’s heart. Burden him, convict him, and lead him in the way to go, for the benefit of our nation, and most importantly, for Your glory. Please strengthen and encourage our President, showing him that every good and perfect gift is from You, and not of our own doing. Please protect our president and his family, and lead him down a path of your righteousness. Please fill our nation with trust in You, and in Your plans; that we would be a nation filled with prayer instead of bitterness, and hope instead of despair. You are our Rock and our Salvation. Whom shall we fear?!

Father God,
I am coming boldly to your throne of grace and mercy and on behalf of our next President. I ask that you would give him a spirit of wisdom so he can wisely and righteously lead America.
I pray for Your hand of protection over our President. Keep him out of harm’s way so his health and safety are never threatened. I pray for his wife and children, for their protection, hide them all in the Shadow of your wing.
Give our President strength so he will not grow weary, direction so he will not lose his way. I pray you would turn his heart toward you at all times so that in the midst of many voices he hears each day, he will still be able to hear your voice far above them. Guide him in every situation.
Enable him to unfailingly be a leader who moves in the truth. I pray he will always do what’s best for the people. Cause him to make decisions based on the solid foundation of Your Word so he will be a leader who stands on the solid foundation of truth. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Sovereign Lord,
Let salvation spring up within our president, that he may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. Father God, we are admonished in your word to pray for others. We are urged, “then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” Furthermore, we are told that “This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. I pray that the President will use his authority wisely and as a result of being in contact with you. I pray for your grace to fall upon him and he will be an example to those he leads. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in Your Name. Remind us that our hope is in You alone…not a man, not a country, not an election. May our president, our nation, our churches and our families be reminded of the HOPE we have in You and You alone.

Dear Father:
I pray that our president would live a life worthy of his calling. May he be completely humble and gentle, patient, bearing with others in love and making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. (Ephesians 4:1-3)
I pray also that he would not walk in the counsel of the wicked and that his delight would be in your law. I pray that he would meditate on your Word day and night. (Psalm 1:1-2) May he seek Wisdom that comes only from You. May he listen to the instruction of the Word and not ignore it. (Proverbs 8:33) May he know the One who gives wisdom generously to those who ask. (James 3:17)
I pray also that our president would defend those who are defenseless and he would speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. (Proverbs 31:8)

Dear Heavenly Father,
I am so thankful to you. Thankful for freedom, thankful for a blessed life, thankful for the ability to vote, thankful for the opportunity to fully trust in you for the outcome of this election. Thank you today!
I lift up a prayer for our president. I pray for his strength to serve, courage to to what is right and just, and discernment in all situations. Instill in him love for all of your people, no matter race or creed. Help him to serve all of us even the poorest of us. Help him to seek you as he serves us.

I pray Isaiah 41:10 for the man that you have ordained to lead our country. “Do not fear for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Have mercy on our land God, that we might be a people who seek your face always.

Today I lift up this new president of our wonderful USA. I pray that he will seek the ancient paths (Jeremiah 6:16), that he yearns for your knowledge and depth of insight and wisdom so that he will understand what is right and just and fair – every good path – so that he may stand pure and blameless until the day of Christ – that discernment and discretion will protect him (Prov. 2:1-15; Phil 1:9-11); That the God of our Savior Jesus will grant the Spirit of Wisdom and revelation, so that this president will know Christ better and that his eyes may be enlightened in order that he may know the hope to which God has called him. (Eph. 1:16-21) In the precious name of my best friend, Jesus, Amen.
Heavenly Father, it is You & you alone whom I place my trust. For You control the course of world events; You remove kings & set up new kings. You give wisdom to the wise. Dan. 2:21. You are our protecting shield & triumphant sword! Your enemies will cringe before you & you will stomp on their backs. Deut. 33:29b I pray you will draw the heart of our president to yourself; I pray he will humble himself to your will & that your Holy Spirit will guide him throughout the next four years. May he be strong because your people continually pray for him. May all of his decisions delight You oh God. In Jesus name.
My Most Gracious Loving Father, will you give us a President who loves You and Your Word more than anything else? What glory that would be! I plead for Your mercy on us as we raise up and elect leaders. May these leaders not merely listen to the Word, may they not be deceived. Help them to actually do what it says. When they look in the mirror, let them be the kind of man that sees YOU there. May the glory always be Yours. Amen.

Dear Father God, You have the power and authority to put the right person in place as President of the United States of America. I pray that you will help the President put God first with all his heart and mind and soul, and to love all the people of America as he loves himself, for these are the two greatest commandments. (Matthew 22:36-40) Also, please help this President show the world the character of a man of Christian beliefs — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-contol. (Galatians 5:22-26) I would also add honesty to this list, since we have seen so many lies in this year’s political campaigns. Lord, help me to trust you in your choice of our President, and remind me to continue to pray for him over the next 4 years. God bless all the believers in Jesus Christ in this great country. May we remember that we believers all have faith in the same God. With the power and authority of Jesus Christ, I ask these things. May it be so. Amen
Sweet Jesus,we pray for the leader of this great nation. Most of us will never understand the pressures, demands and sacrifices these men make. Help us to follow well and to have a defense to anyone who asks us for a reason for the hope that is in us, doing it with gentleness and respect. Help us to honor him. God, grant him wisdom and courage.
