The Big D

Hey Siestas! This is just a quick note to let you know that the Moore girls are heading north for the weekend. North – where the air is better for the hair. Amen? By “north” I mean Dallas. Our co-worker, Nancy, is marrying off her son to the love of his life. We’re so excited to get to celebrate with their family and also enjoy a little girl time.

A few minutes ago I was telling Jackson that Annabeth and I are leaving town to go to a wedding. He looked at his Daddy and said, “Who’s Mommy marrying?” Curtis explained that Mommy wasn’t getting married, but that Miss Sara’s brother was getting married. Then Jackson said those classic words, “I’m going to marry Mommy!” My heart melted. What a sweet send off.

On another note, I read that Texas Stadium is being imploded on Sunday morning. That’s so weird! I basically saw it every day for 3.5 years when we lived in Irving. So when we arrive in the Dallas area today we’ll see it, and when we leave it will be gone! Just like that! Bless its heart, it truly is an eye sore, but now I feel a bit sentimental about it.

I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend. Please continue to leave comments if you’d like to, but just know that it could be a few days before they’re posted. We love y’all!
-Amanda

Aw, Texas Stadium…what will they build in it’s place? Or are they building anything at all?

I miss Texas. I was born in Lubbock and raised in the surrounding areas most of my childhood. My father’s a pastor and we’ve lived in places like Levelland and Ralls, Texas. Those were the best memories of my life. πŸ™‚ He went to Christ for the Nations in Dallas so we lived there for a couple of years too. Have fun!

Have a safe “Moore girls” trip to Big D and enjoy! I hope you get some shopping done, you always seem to have such fun when the 3 of you are together!! (Oh, 4 of you, now that Annabeth has joined the fun!!) And a wedding is always full of stories!!!

Amanda, don’t you just love the things that come from our little boys mouths!! Some are not as memorable as others but when it involves loving his Mommmy–it’s priceless!! Now that Brad has his own little girl, I’m remembering more of the ‘Bradisms’ from his childhood-wish I had written more of them down.

    Beth,

I do hope and trust that you will have a blast with your girls celebrating the marriage and the wedding feast of loved ones together. What more fun is there? How privileged we are to get to see such a uniting! Hmmm… which always takes me to the uniting of two becoming one with our Lord when we accept Him into our hearts. Woe, can you even imagine the feast we’ll celebrate on that Great Wedding Day that awaits us!

I am going on a road trip with my two girls this weekend, as well! I’m so excited… but a bit somber too. We live in Alabama and are headed to Ohio. We are invited to a six year old little girl’s Christmas party (if you can fathom that!). Her name is Faith. She was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer 2/19/10. Her oncologist has given her 6 months to live. She recently had her own “pretend” wedding with “the love of her life.” She’s been saying that she’s going to marry Rory since she was two. Recently (in a pretend way), she did! He looks to be around 20. She had the dress, the veil, the flowers, the ring, and everything. Woe, I’m sure, at the emotion that filled that room when she walked her aisle!

Please pray for her. Though it might not be in God’s plan to… I do KNOW that He’s still able to perform miracles!!! And sometimes with the powerful frevent prayer of His saints, He still chooses to do so! You can find her story here: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/faithpruden/journal

Blessings to you all! May God rock your worlds with the wonder of Him as you travel this weekend together!

Have a wonderful weekend, with lots of “good hair” days! I know how important that is! And I hope the wedding is lovely. But don’t forget to wear waterproof mascara or you’ll end up looking like racoons!!! I always cry at weddings, and I bet y’all do too.

The thought of Dallas being a northern city is so hilarious…. I thought you meant you were headed to Detroit, or Des Moines, or even Duluth!

I have to say, and I’m not trying to be dirty here, but when I read the title of this post it reminded me of my mission trips to China when “the big D” was referring to the diarrhea that everyone inevitably got while over there…anyways, thought I’d share that little connection. Have a fun trip!

Have a wonderful time away! Weddings are always so much fun and always a great time to go back in time to remember my own wedding…oh and think what I want to do differently when we renew our vows someday!

On a different subject, Will Beth be leading a discussion for a Summertime Bible Study here on the blog this summer? I’ve missed the last two years because I was in the middle of a different study. This year, I’m waiting to see if Siesta Mama is going to lead one before I choose one for our church.

Don’t you just LOVE LOVE LOVE the Spring time??!!! Thank you Jesus!!!

I hope you Moore girls enjoy your weekend here in the Big D! The weather is supposed to be beautiful. I can relate to the feelings you’re having about Texas Stadium. Have you read about the boy who is going to be pushing the button? He is from Terrel and his dad is a pastor of a church in Garland. He’s a great kid with a great ministry. Amanda … have fun in Dallas! Though … the hair is still a problem here in the D/FW area (I’m in Fort Worth now). Now … I’ve lived in Wichita Falls and San Angelo … great hair there! Dry as a bone there. Great hair … oh, I had the greatest hair there (actually thought I had outgrown bad hair days till I moved back to Fort Worth) … but the only problem … you get the fire shocked out of you with every single thing you touch. I would honestly wear gloves to open the refrigerated section at the store to get milk! I was scared to open doors. Ugh! So there is some good to humidity … no shock treatments! And our pastor said on Sunday that some little boy won the right to push the button that will send Texas Stadium falling down. Wow! Yes, seems like such a shame to lose it … but my husband said that is valuable land! πŸ™‚ Someone will definitely capitalize on that property! Or already has. Love you!

    Dearest Beth,
Just a few minutes ago, I received some frightening information. You are in Dallas, hopefully enjoying some wonderful girl time. Just two weeks ago, I was sitting in Tucson listening to you live.
Just like you, I was abused as a child. And like you, we are awaiting an adoption into my family. We have been waiting 8 months for a little girl in Korea and still waiting. Just minutes ago, I received word that the man who abused me is adopting a child. Though my passion right now is adoption and giving a loving and caring home to every child who needs one, is searching for a reason why this person is allowed to adopt.
After the news, I went to listen to Travis’ CD with you talking about worship and to worship no matter what and then deal with the rest later. Thank you for your words of wisdom from one sister to another.

Kids are so neat! My granddaughters were sitting in my lap before bedtime. As usual, we prayed. I prayed first and it was my 3 year old granddaughter’s turn. She was quiet for a second and then started laughing! She said, “I was gonna say,’Once upon a time!'” Her 2 year old sister started laughing as well. My daughter’s “caught” what she said and we all just laughed for about 5 minutes. So cute! It made a rough day come to a happy ending.
I hope that you all have a good time at the wedding. I always cry at weddings as soon as the bride comes in. Awww. I am such a romantic!

Amanda: How precious of you to mention Texas Stadium! We’ve lived and my hubby has Pastored a church here for twenty-eight years, and I can honestly say the boy that is pushing the button has given a great testimony to this area!!! Wow! The Mayor of Irving says they are reconstructing highways in that locale and then an Arts Center as well as Shopping/Entertainment type buildings. Wouldn’t it be grand if some time our adorable Beth would be holding a Conference there? Y’all have fun at the wedding and I’m asking God to bless you for being so thoughtful to mention Texas Stadium. You are so sharp! I’ve been seeing a lot of the fliers around in the Restaurants for your Mom will have the Conference Telecast (or whatever it’s called) at First Baptist Church here on April 24. I have another commitment that day, but I’m telling everyone I know. I love, love, love your blogs!!!! God has blessed y’all with such a warm, loving, genuine charm which I need and appreciate!!!

i love that the Lord gave Beth the two daughters that He gave her. so many parents want to re-live life through their children but with the wrong objectives. for example, if the parents didn’t have cool clothes, they might do anything and everything to make sure their children are well-dressed. Beth, however, wasn’t worried about about the clothes (or whatever), so much as she was worried about raising two girls who whole-heartedly followed Jesus from a young age and thereby avoided many of the pitfalls that she, herself, fell into. after the heartbreaking childhood beth endured, it is like God gave her a form of “rest” in giving her such wonderful daughters (i don’t know why, but i’m thinking rest in the way the land would be given rest for 40 years or so after certain battles in the old testament). what another beautiful gift from the loving hand of our Father. i love the moore girls (and all my siestas!)

Can I just say, “THANK YOU” for sharing your lives with us. You are precious to me and to all of us. This weekend, we (as in the 3 of you and my family) celebrated the birth of the same baby for a precious couple who has longed to adopt and I caught myself grinning ear to ear! We have mutual friends, but more importantly, we have a mutual God who truly makes us sisters! His love connects us in an authentic way, even though we’ve never met. Now THAT is cool!

    partialemptynester says:

Well, welcome to my neck of the woods, ladies! I’m usually not one to blog on the weekends, but this weekend I am on in order to blog a before, during and after post of Texas Stadium…in all the years, I’ve lived in Irving, I’ve never lived more than 5 miles away from the stadium. I pass it every day I take my daughter to school. I plan to post some pix of it today, then tomorrow during the imploding (and yes, it is a huge deal ’round these parts, we’re all getting up at 5AM, loaded down with coffee, juice and muffins…all to be eaten before the actual imploding, of course, as it’s sure to get dusty), then take some more pix on Monday as I drive my daughter to school…it will be an odd feeling, indeed!

And yes, Shelli, what am amazing “God story” about the boy who will push the button…some friends of mine and I were in a meeting on the deck at the Four Seasons-Las Colinas this past Thursday night and quite a crew came tromping by all of us sitting there so prim and proper…the dad of the group apologized for disturbing us, which we all immediately relaxed from our meeting and fell all over ourselves letting him know that his rather large, loud family was of absolutely no problem to us…although we didn’t look it, sitting there in our “meeting clothes”, we are all ladies of loud, boisterous families ourselves. We all got to know each other quickly, as this is Texas, and before the end of our getting to know this precious family of Casey’s, the boy pushing the official button tomorrow morning, we’d all bought t-shirts that say “Casey’s Heart” to wear to the event. After all, we’d all been invited to the “implosion”, but what does one wear to such an event where you are sure to get dirty and dusty, but be in pictures taken by the local paper that all your friends are sure to see and comment on the next Sunday at church, ya know?! Be sure to google Casey’s Heart to learn what God has done in this amazing family’s life or check the connections that Tammy Adkins posted…a story only God could weave!

And what a gorgeous day we are having here in Irving, perfect for a downtown wedding, y’all enjoy!

It was going to be great. My other sister works at Irving Bible and had reserved a room and dj. We were gonna dance our socks off, but then who wears sock this time of year. Also, I was sad to hear about the stadium too. Thats where I had my prom, oh so many years ago ! Great memories there! πŸ™‚ Maybe I will picture my insecurities blowing up along with the stadium. OMGosh, are you going to be at the wedding going on at La Cima? Now, of course, I’m sounding like a stalker…but my daughter has gone to her friends for the weekend and as we dropped her off yesterday, she said, “Now y’all have a romantic weekend, ya hear?” We decided that it would be fun to have dinner at La Cima tonight and view Texas Stadium from on high one last time. Well, when I called La Cima, Rosemary informed me that we would be seated “lakeside” because of a wedding going on “stadiumside”…and that the lounge would not even be available…I let her know that I really just want to take one last peek at the stadium and she was more than happy to let me know that there would be someone to escort me to the window if we arrived while the wedding was still going on…omgosh, I can see it now…me, with two big bodyguards on either side, just wanting a peek at Texas Stadium, seeing a wedding going on with Beth and Amanda sitting sweetly in the audience, then yelling, “OMGOSH, is that you, BETH AND AMANDA?!?!!? HEY GIRLS, IT’S ME, A SIESTA, YOU KNOW…PARTIALEMPTYNESTER!!!” LOL! I promise if you are there, I will NOT embarrass you, teehee πŸ˜‰

This is totally off-topic of your blog but can I please just shout out here that I just finished reading “Breaking Free”!! I read it in 2 days – could NOT put it down. I NEEDED to read that book and I am so thankful! (I also ran out and got the newly-revised Breaking Free Bible Study – I’m on week one). My favorite verse this year has been the tiny John 4:50b, “the man took Jesus at His word”. I, however, have not been that(wo)man. But as of this day I am taking Jesus at His word! I want to tell everyone I know (and those I don’t know too!) who struggles with insecurity, strongholds, past abuses/hurts (not being free!) to read that book!!! I’m buying a copy for my husband (I’ve marked my copy up so much, I figure he needs to start with a fresh one). Thank You Lord!!!!

    Hi Girls!
Beth, it was so great to meet you at Starbucks! It was such an encouragement to me and I wish I had said something more substantial than just blubbering words of excitement. I was studying the passage on having a steadfast mind in the Breaking Free book – it took a while to regain my steadfast mind! But I really enjoyed that study for the day and really took my time to soak it all in. I love how you share the extended meanings of the words in scripture. Thank you for sharing you heart throughout Breaking Free – I feel like I’m reading your journal. Each week the memory verses speak to me. My husband lost his job in October and there is a high possibility of us moving for a new job – but the Lord has been preparing my heart to trust Him no matter what. “Though the mountains be shaken…” his love for me is still strong. I was on my way home from Dallas, too and stopped in for lunch at a certain place on I45. Imagine my surprise when I looked up and saw you girls in there as well!!! To speak or not to speak, that was the question. I opted to not speak. Later, when I told my daughters and husband that I had seen you they asked, “Did you say anything?” “No, I didn’t” ” Why?” I found myself saying that I looked all scruffy because I was dressed comfortably for traveling and didn’t have on any makeup. Perhaps if I was more presentable I would have spoken. I have just finished reading “So Long Security” and the irony of my remarks wasn’t lost on me. Anyway, what I want you to know and didn’t tell you that day, is that I have done several of your bible studies and they have been life changers for me. Thank you for your ministry.

    Susan Turner says:

    Dear Beth,
Just been introduced to you in the past year. I attended the August 2009 simulcast at a local church in my hometown. My sister and I attended, much on her encouragement because she’s done several of your Bible Studies. I was blessed! Before I would allow the fire to burn out I suggested doing one of your studies at my own church Double Springs Baptist in Shelby, NC. God was all over this. Turns out we had “Daniel” in our church library. Who knew? (of course, He did) Plans were made and it started the first Tuesday in January of this year. During the course of this study, my sister in law had open heart surgery, my husband with an injured knee from a skiing accident in December, developed a DVT(Deep vein thrombosis) which traveled from his hip, through his heart and landed in his lung, or that’s called a PE(Pulmonary embolism). This occured about four weeks into your study. I can’t even begin to tell you how the Bible study impacted our group and myself directly. God was speaking to me so directly, and I know you said it’s not supposed to be about me, but He was using me and what had happened so evidently. He definitely carried us “Through the fire”. Two thirds of my husband’s lung was clotted, statistics say he shouldn’t be here. Typically the result is sudden death. In the ER, I got down on my knees, something I’ve learned from you, and I thanked God for bringing my husband this far, I acknowledged that only He could perform such a miracle thus far, and only He could help the doctors figure out what was wrong and help them to give him the medicines he needed to heal physically. After missing a week of study, while I was at the hospital with my husband, I returned the next week when we were home. I did not want to leave him, I was AFRAID to. But he insisted I go. It was Session Six, In the Lion’s Den. And the first segment, BAM, what do we do in crisis? The three P’s , panic, paralyzed or Pray. Thank goodness, I knew what to do, I had prayed, I begged for healing and He has answered my prayers. It’s been two and a half months, and life is beginning to return to normal. I am coming on Saturday, if I can pry myself out of bed in the morning, get the kids to school, go to work, and then meet the seventeen ladies traveling with me on the four hour drive to Woodstock. I sat up tonight trying to finish up the book on Insecurity. I must admit, I skipped around from about page 250 or so, started reading the last chapters, waiting on God to use your book to speak to me, knowing it would come, and when I read Melissa’s story of her experience from mission work overseas, the tears started flowing. Recently, leaving the doctor’s office not long ago, my husband, Todd, said, with tears in his eyes, “I am afraid things will just go back the way they used to be.” But he and I both know they won’t, we’re changed and what we have been through, we don’t ever want to forget. God performed a miracle in our lives, and when I listen to the breath my husband takes as he lays asleep beside me, I am reminded of it. I pray, as Melissa did, that God would , and I quote your book,”keep the emotional wounds that were carved during the past weeks from healing, that time won’t have it’s typical way with us, the sharp edge of the sting we felt in our souls won’t ever be dulled.” Leading up to this point we have been so blessed, in our families, in our jobs, in our financial security, in our church, in everythiing. But we’ve taken it all for granted and placed false security in all the wrong places. We’re learning, and you’ve spoken to me through this book. I will place my trust in God alone. Period. He is in control. Thank you for doing what God has led you to do, it speaks to so many. Just thought you would want to know! See you Saturday. Truly your sister in Christ, I feel like I know you personally. Mission accomplished. Susan Turner
