A Good Word for a Monday Morning

Hey, Darling Siestas! I’m back at my desk at Living Proof Ministries, Melissa is back at hers in Atlanta, and AJ and her family are about to board a plane and head home from vacation. Hallelujah! Whatever this wild family’s normal is, we’re happily returning to it. I have not seen my baby girl in two and a half months, a near-record for us, and she’s heading from Atlanta to Houston on Wednesday. We have an in-house ministry thing she’s coming to attend as well as Miss Annabeth Ellen Jones’s baby dedication at our church. We are looking so forward to our family all being back together again. If I don’t get those grandbabies back in my arms soon, there’s gonna be heck to pay.

Actually, I could have kept all that family news to myself except that I had you on my mind, particularly in view of some heavy things I’ve read in the last 24 hours. I just thought I’d share a verse with you that I have right in front of me today at my desk. And, yes, jotted down on an index card. And, no, it’s not a memory verse (yet). Just an encouragement verse and I wondered if somebody could use it today. It’s Psalm 94:18-19 out of the New English Translation:

If I say, “My foot is slipping,” Your loyal love, O Lord, supports me. When worries threaten to overwhelm me, Your soothing touch makes me HAPPY.”

If perchance worries are threatening to overwhelm you this Monday morning, I pray that You will sense His soothing touch…and it will make you purely happy. Maybe even giddy. We could use some giddy today.

I love you, Siestas. Take heart! Jesus has overcome the world!

Thank you for the Word! I am so overwhelmed this week and tired. I needed Him to catch my slipping feet. Thanks for your encouragement also “Joy in the Journey” I needed to be reminded to focus on the ONE and ONLY instead of all that is trying to weigh me down.

Just in time! My husband lost his job yesterday and you posted this yesterday.

I think this may be the verse He wants us to claim while we figure out what He is up to this time!

So thrilled for you darling Beth, that you will be happy and giddy with your two beloved girls and two darlin’ “greats” to have and to hold today. I’m praying for you with the weightiness of the Mother’s Day posts. The contrast of joy and sorrow kept all we Siesta’s emotions rolling all over the register. I praise God for the honesty of LPM “Siesta’s” as we talked with our Mom’s, and got straight to the heart of God. Thank you for giving us a place to do that and for “praying the price” of the reality of ministry. So glad it’s real in your life and family, and you have not failed there. The example of the Moore, Jones, Fitzpatrick family shines like a bright star of hope in Christ. I’m reminded, “It’s not too hard for God”,… even when we feel our foot is slipping. A good word: God. Period. (My Bible Lady taught me that!)

Beth, your closing statement to “Take cheer! Jesus has overcome the world” was so uplifting to me; simply put, this verse (John 16:33) says it all. This has been my signature verse for 26 years now, ever since it jumped off the page of my daily devotional the day I learned my daddy was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Thanks for the reminder!!! I am so looking up!

I just have to leave a comment to thank all the siestas who have left kind messages of encouragement and prayer for me. It has been a hard couple of days since I miscarried on Mother’s Day but every time I re-read your sweet words I am reduced to tears of awe and gratitude. God has used you to encourage me in a time “when all that I can sing is a broken hallelujah”. Thank you, siestas.

    Dear Beth,
I read your blog yesterday and the Bible verse you posted couldn’t have come at a better time. I started to type a post yesterday after I read the verse but I just couldn’t bring myself to send the post. You see, yesterday I found out my mom has cancer. As I tried to type the words “my mom has cancer”,it seemed so unreal…so unnatural. So I just ended up deleting the post. This morning I woke up and though I am still trying to sort all of this out, I remembered what an awesome group of ladies are here in Siestaville. I know without a doubt someone here would remember to pray. Thank you so much for this blog.

    The verse was excellent!!

I’m among those that desperately needed to hear that verse today. I’ve never read it before and all of Psalm 94 spoke to my spirit. I’m praying for clarity today as I feel anxious, but not sure what about, I feel the Holy Spirit’s familiar pressing of my heart, something I haven’t felt in months, but what it is He is speaking to my heart about, I feel like its getting lost in translation. Still, I’m so thankful for it, His Word is alive and active in me!! 🙂

What a great verse! I’m in no particular mood right now, but I have missed seeing the sun for the last 15 days or so, so anything with the word “happy” in it is refreshing! Thanks for all you do for your girls. I don’t really post much, but I read almost all of the posts, and it is amazing to see how much love and comfort you give out. What an amazing gift! Lots of love to you!

    Dear Beth,

Thank you for the opportunity to write a letter to my mother. She passed away in 2005 – and my Daddy in 1998. In the letter I wrote and posted on your blog, I told my mother that I wondered what she and Daddy were doing in heaven. That very night I had very a very vivid dream. I dreamed that I was watching my Daddy and his father and uncle – and they were riding horses in such a beautiful place. I could see it in color – the mountains, the trees, the grass – and a river. I saw them – and then I saw the picture of them riding – but then in my dream, I was looking in my grandmother’s Bible. Wow – I’ve never thought about animals in heaven – but now I believe there are horses in heaven. And my Daddy loved horses…and I also dreamed about my mother. It was like I spent time with both of my parents and talked with them in my dreams. It was such a special gift from God. I didn’t really go to bed thinking about it….but woke up around 3:30 a.m. from my dreams – and then the first thing that came into my mind was writing a comment on your blog about wondering what my parents were doing in heaven – and telling them how much I missed them. I think it was so sweet of Jesus to let me have that time….I just wanted to share this ….

Christine ~ Believer in Christ says:

    Beth:

Here is a word of encouragement:

I was a participant in the Fargo Marathon on Mother’s Day weekend. Over 10,000 runners know you are coming to the FarGODome in August!

Someone had a huge sign in their yard announcing the event. Ooowee – my step lightened when I saw that!

I was running with two non-believer’s (girlfriend’s from before my life with Him!) and it was an opportunity to witness!

They of course don’t know who you are and I sure enough told them who you are and how God uses you to bring His Love Letter to life!!! I just love it when He opens doors for me to talk about Him!!!

As passionate as I was when I was telling them about the event (I attended one in Souix Falls in 2006), at this particular time the girls don’t have an interest in going, but that is still three months away. You never know how God will work in their hearts between now and then.

From the fleshly perspective, these two ladies are hard nuts to crack…but then again, so was I!

I live in the very SE corner of Iowa and these two ladies live in the NE corner of South Dakota, but God’s arms are big and inclusive. We will see what happens between now and then!!

Mother’s Day ended up being a day of blessing as I spent it with my grandma, aunts, uncles, and cousin. Did not spend it with my mom but am learning that it is ok…I am growing up to be my own person…no more identity gained in her approval. With God’s strength and guidance, it will stop. Hallelujah!
I am using that sweet nugget of the word for my next memory verse! Like a fellow siesta, I too think that I am going to start on it early!

I have really been growing in the Lord – and like clockwork, the Enemy stepped up in the spiritual attack dept.

I am about to undergo surgery this Fri, and am a "thousand miles from nowhere"… (and family, friends and fellow sisters and brothers in Christ…) I know that the Enemy loves to kick us when we are down, so i was starting to Worry…

I am going to write this verse down, right now, and carry it with me.
You are so special to me. Thank you for being so faithful, in letting God use you.

    Praying Paula says:

Thank you for the encouraging words in scripture..I now know the meaning of them after bible study yesterday evening.

Please keep in prayer of the new “Beth Moore” bible study that was just started in our community.

We’re studying “PATRIARCHS ENCOUNTERING THE GOD OF ABRAHAM,ISAAC, AND JACOB” and it’s amazing how Ha Shem has brought these ladies together. We have three Pastor’s wives from all three denominations..now, tell me if that isn’t from the GREAT I AM!

The enemy has been attaching from the very beginning in different ways..we have overcome it all through faith and belief that God has something so great for this community that it’s going to bust apart at the seams..into all the local churches that need His daily Word. Our community is in turmoil over a local cabinet factory closing it’s doors in July causing over 250 people in our community to loose their jobs. The families are grieving with single moms to 25couples that are working there..There is no time like the present to bring this study out.

With prayers being answered there are already two different “Beth Moore” bibles studies starting only after two weeks of us getting started that are being taken into other churches. We have not the room for all the ladies that signed up so we’re equiping them to carry it out into their homes and women’s bible studies at their own church.

God is Good..please keep us under your wing of prayers through this bible study. May the Lord bless your ministry in equiping women to equip other women on behalf of knowing our LORD to stand on the truth.

What a verse! I too am really in need of God’s encouragement. As the step mama to three beautiful children- we always start to struggle this time of year when the kids will be leaving for a six week visit with their birth mother. We flip-flop visitation and only see them one night a week and every other weekend. I ache so much as my children struggle and are torn between going and staying “home”. I also worry for their protection when they are away.

Even two days later this scripture is perfect (isn’t the Word always like that!). I so needed this one and foresee it to be a memory verse soon!
I can’t tell you how much your post encourage me in another way though. Through all the studies I’ve done, and all the God-stops and God-moments and God-inspired ah-ha’s; the part of ‘knowing’ you Beth is how much you love your girls and how unapologetic you are – and how your family is so much like ours funny, close, and crazy – these things have encouraged me the most. When people say we are weird for being so close and having such enjoyment of each others company – now I can say -sometimes even aloud! – “that’s ok, Beth and Amanda and melissa, are just like us! 🙂
You are so greatly loved. Thank you for sharing your life and family with us! And letting us share ours!

Ever hit your alarm and felt like you’d only been asleep for an hour. Well, my alarm went off at 5:45 this morning, or so it said. When I set it last night, evidently I hit the “time” button as well as the “alarm.” When I looked at my husbands clock it truthfully told me I had only been asleep for an hour, 1:00am. Then, although my concerns are trivial in comparison with so many, and my heart doesn’t feel worried, my neck is stiff, my shoulders feel like I’m carrying 50 pounds of sugar on each, my chest is tight and my head feels like the thoughts are trying to claw their way out of my brain, it is now 4:15and I’m up reading blogs. Good thing this is the one I chose. I have now read over this verse at least 6 times and keep getting deeper revelation. AAAAAAAAnd a happy heart with a smile!

Today is Wednesday but that verse was still what I needed to hear. I have beautiful children who know the Lord but I was recently reminded of the spiritual environment they are functioning in. Dear Jesus, one of them in spite of a Christian upbringing has experienced some heartaches that have turned his eyes away from the centrality of the Gospel and he is enamored with the academic community. He is highly intelligent and to see him veering off course absolutely petrifies me. Please please pray for this dear boy who God has surely gifted for a good purpose. Pray that God will confront him SOON. Since he reminds me of what the Apostle Paul must have been like, I’ve been praying God would confront him “on the road” in an unmistakable way and that he would be turned around to serve Jesus with his whole heart.
It means so much to know others are praying also.

    Sister-momma,

Have you not read that Judgement begins with the family of God? So, now, we know all those who said otherwise, who thought themselevs more wise and righteous, are false. And we know whomever sufferred the insults of being false to be true. We are not talking about boutique suffering in image or status or feeling. It was true then; it is true now. It is always true.
