G.P. Are You With Me?

We’ve been asked a few times lately what in the world G.P. means. (Beth says it in the Esther videos.) G.P. stands for God’s Property, which is from Kirk Franklin’s song “Stomp.” It’s an LPM favorite. God’s Property is actually the name of the choir that partnered with him on that song. This is not great quality, but here’s the video for you. Enjoy!

Glory, glory!

Oh I love this song. My family of 5 had the great honor of being guests at an African American church last Sunday. We were the only white people and of course they sat us in the front center pew! We had the best time. My 4, and 12 year old sat the entire 2 hours and 15 minutes and never even moved, well except for tapping their feet and clapping their hands. They guest preacher made a comment about not forgetting the roots of their church and went on to say, “when I sat at my dying mother’s bedside I was not singing Kirk Franklin’s Stomp, but rather recalling the old hymns from my youth that brought me such strength and peace.” I have been singing this song in my head all week, so thanks for the video. Now I need to go download it to my ipod. I also grabbed my Alan Jackson CD of old hymns and have been playing it in the car for my kids. How sweet to hear my baby singing “tis’ so sweet to trust in Jesus”!!Amen!

I just found your blog so I realize that I am a little late for a comment. But…I can’t resist. Our womens Bible Study is just finishing the study (1 more week). I laughed when we got to the GP week. I live in Washington (state that is) and I can remember when Gary Payton played for the Seattle Supersonics. Whenever there was a game and my husband would yell out “GP are you with me!” I couldn’t help but think of Gary Payton everytime Beth said this. 🙂

Oh Yeah, I remember STOMP! It came out about the time I became a Christian, i think?? I never knew what he was sayin, I thought he was sayin TC instead of GP, meaning “The Church” instead of “God’s Property”. That is funny! I’m a nerd! I always thought that song was fun, but i never saw the video:)

OK, too funny that I read this! I’m doing Esther now, and haven’t gotten to the G.P. part yet, but this is one of my favorite songs. Mostly because it’s just so fun. Anyway, the other day I was listening to it (loudly) in my car. My 2 1/2 yr. old is just starting to start “singing” along with whatever I have playing. He listened to the whole thing, and, when it was over, he yelled out “G.P., are you in there?” Too funny!
