Our Last Common Table

A HUGE thank you to Melissa for the time she spent compiling recipes for our common table this summer! Baby Girl, as much as I tease you about it, I know that your true love is the Holy Scripts and not the kitchen so I appreciate the willing distraction. Great job! Now, get back to research!

On our last Siesta Summer Bible Study gathering, it is only fitting that we have a CHOCOLATE FREE-FOR-ALL! So, the only requirement for our common table this week is c-h-o-c-o-l-a-t-e! Here are some ideas from Melissa if you’re game.

Make any main course or appetizers you desire, just be sure to end it all with a beloved chocolate dish!

Here are a few ideas:

First, for an easy and elegant dessert, follow this link to All Recipes for a fun chocolate mousse recipe:

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chocolate-Mousse-2/Detail.aspx

For those of you experimental types who may want a little less chocolate and a less typical dessert (Please see my comments below):

Tiramisu Affogato (from Gourmet August 2008)
Parfaits with Hot Espresso and Ladyfingers
Serves 6
Active Time: 20 min. Start to Finish: 20 min.

¾ cup chilled heavy cream
1 Tbsp sugar
1 pint vanilla ice cream
1 pint coffee ice cream
9 savoiardi (Italian crisp ladyfingers), coarsely crumbled
1 ¼ cups freshly brewed espresso (10 oz)
Or 1 ¼ cups boiling water and 3 Tbsp instant-espresso powder
A small piece of bittersweet chocolate

Directions:
*Beat cream with sugar until it just holds stiff peaks.
*Divide vanilla and coffee ice creams among glasses, then top with ladyfingers. Pour hot espresso on top and dollop with whipped cream. Grate chocolate on top.

Melissa’s Notes: Each of these desserts should be served in individual clear cups or glasses. Also, savoiardi are a type of Italian cookie closely resembling lady-fingers. They are crisp, so if you substitute regular ladyfingers my guess is that the dessert will end up soggy. If you don’t have access to them or don’t care, go for the All-Recipes Chocolate Mousse.

Yum! You brought such a smile to my face as I sat down to read this post while nibbling a little dark chocolate and sipping iced coffee. I do believe that chocolate can be therapeutic. It’s only appropriate to include it with this study. I’m off to do my Bible study!

Melissa – Thanks so much for finding such fun recipe ideas for us. It’s been a hoot!

I think I’ll make a huge bowl of chocolate mousse, and eat it all myself since I am doing the NOG study solo…..

Oh I HAVE to tell you this story! This weekend, my 11-yr old daughter, Rachel, and I made Beth’s Texas Sheet cake recipe (which I got from the blog some time ago). When I told Rachel that this was Beth Moore’s recipe, she rolled her eyes a little and said “Oh momma, is there anything Beth Moore can’t do???” CRACKED ME UP!!!

    Hugs to y’all!

    Preheat oven to 350
Prepare 10-inch-diameter springform pan by buttering bottom of pan. Line bottom of pan with parchment (or wax paper) round; butter paper. Wrap 3 layers of foil around outside of pan, bringing foil to top of rim. Set aside.

I’m going to try the Apple Crostada with fresh peaches. I may have to add a little cornstarch to soak up the juices…

Melissa, Thank you so much for all of your yummy recipes. Not only has my family benefited from them but so has our adult Sunday School Class. Every Sunday we have a little fellowship time before class and I have made desserts from our common meal menu. They were huge successes!! I have had to give out the recipes.

This study has been a huge blessing to me and my fellow Siesta’s. We shout out a big Thank You to Kelly Minter, Mama Beth, Amanda, Melissa and everyone else who made this possible. I hope we will do this again.

LOVe..LOVe..LOVe.. the chocolate idea! Our group actually had already decided to make brownies with a scoop of cappuccino icecream and chocolate sauce drizzled all over! Speaking of cappuccino, Melissa, you HAVE to make the following cappuccino mousse recipe some time! I pipe it into those cute little chocolate cups you can buy-VERY impressive and EXTREMELY easy but you can also just dish it into dessert dishers and serve with a dollop of fresh whip cream andchocolate shavings on top! I am known as “THE queen of dessert” in my ladies group! Desserts are my favorite thing to make! SO here goes:
This is also an All Recipes.com recipe but I could not find it on their website but MUST give them credit!

    Cappuccino Mousse
1-14 oz. can sweet condensed milk
    1.3 cup Hershey’s cocoa powder
    3 TBSP. butter
    2 tsp. instant coffee granules
    2 tsp. hot water
    2 cups heavy cream, chilled

Combine sweet cond. milk, cocoa, butter and coffee (coffe granules dissolved in hot water) in medium saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until butter melts and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat;cool.

Beat whipping cream in large bowl until stiff. Gradually fold chocolate mixture into whipped cream. Spoon into dessert dishes. Refrigerate until set, about 2 hours. Garnish as desired.
You will LOVE this and so will Siesta Mama Beth since she is such a Starbucks coffee fan!
Thank you so much for all the great recipes you have shared with us during this study.Beth-LOVE the pound cake-have made it about 4 times now! I know you put in a lot of time and energy in this but I can tell you have a real heart for the kitchen! Cooking really does relieve stress! Well..for me it does!
Beth, love you to pieces! This study has been so good for me! Cant wait until we do another…maybe next summer!

    Melissa,

    For you:

And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey: unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

    — Exodus 3:8 (KJV)

I justed wanted to tell you what a treat it was looking forward to the recipes you posted. I tried several of them even though I am solo. My dh enjoyed the chicken enchiladas and the banana pudding! I am so glad you kept it a little bit challenging. That’s how it should be! I think about the Bible studies I’ve done of your mom’s and how challenging they were…but oooh…they were flowing with milk and honey. Your recipes were just the same.
I heart you…I heart your obedience…I heart your bubbling excitement over everything you take on! Share anytime…recipes, longings, giggles…let them flow like milk and honey…
