Siesta Cookbook

Ladies, our siesta Holly/CrownLaidDown is compiling a cookbook from the recipes we have all shared on the LPM blog. Isn’t that fun? You can find out all the details (cost, how to get one, etc.) on Patty and Kim’s Siesta Fiesta blog, specifically here and here.

The cookbook is going to help raise money for the drilling of a water well through Life Outreach International. Isn’t that awesome? You may recall that my parents have done some mission trips to Africa through LOI. (Read here and here.) In fact, they are at the Life Today studios taping some programs this weekend.

Holly will not publish any of the recipes without getting permission first. If you would like the recipe(s) you’ve posted to be included in the cookbook, please email her directly with your recipe at [email protected] or simply write “yes” in a comment. She will match your comment to recipes that have been posted. If you do not comment or email Holly, she will not use your recipe.

Holly also needs some pithy family sayings to go along with your recipes, about 32 words or less, including some good advice or just downright funny things your family or your grandma says. You can include these in your comments or emails.

There will be a contest for the cover design in case anyone is interested in participating. Once again, check out Patty and Kim’s Siesta Fiesta blog for details. Surely we have some artists out there! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Is it too late to join the bible study? I’d love to have a partner too if anyone is still looking for accountability. Thanks.

What an awesome, awesome idea! Don’t think I submitted a recipe.

Here’s a funny little saying I heard…it may be old news, but I had never heard it before and it cracked me up…

“Marriage advice:Never go to bed angry…stay up and fight!” ; )

I don’t know about you girls, but is seems that God is always providing us with a soundtrack for our bible studies….well, I heard this song this afternoon and am sure it will need to be our theme song for “No Other Gods”- Attached is the YouTube video so you can hear the words (the video is nothing special) but the words align perfectly with the study. It is “Lose My Soul” by Toby Mac with Kirk Franklin and Mandisa…wow!

My favorite part is a prayer towards the end of the song:

“Lord forgive us when we get consumed by the things of this world, that fight for our love and passion. As our eyes are wide on you, grant us the priviledge of your world view. May your kingdom be what wakes us up and lays us down.”

    It starts out with:
“Father God, I am clay in your hands, help me to stay that way through all life’s demands.”

Beth, I know you love Kirk Franklin and, of course, Mandisa – hope you enjoy!!

This comment has absolutely nothing to do with the Siesta Cookbook . . . I just need someone to listen to me.

I am a homeschooling mother of five children – married to an extremely patient and godly man, but I am going through the hardest struggle I’ve ever faced. I am seriously considering leaving them all – to do what you ask. I have no idea . . . I just know that I can’t live like this anymore. I’m not happy in my marriage (I know . . I know, classic statement) – I know I should be full of love for my children, but I try to think of ways to get away from them. I haven’t opened my Bible in atleast three months (I know . . . I know – that’s part of the problem). I have no desire for the things of the Lord. I dread going to church, I dread being alone with my husband after the children are in bed – I can’t wait for him to get home at the end of the day, so he can help out with the children, though.

Yesterday in church, I couldn’t focus on any of the service. I just kept thinking – I hate this! I hate this! When we get home, I’m packing a bag and I’m leaving – I feel like I’m suffocating in my life.

Well, I didn’t pack my bags when we got home – I went to the grocery store. But, that impulse – that hole in my heart is still there . . . just waiting to explode.

I don’t want to ruin my family – I don’t want to let my husband and children down, but I just can’t live this life anymore . . .

I had dreams and hopes. Where are all of those? Gone! I was going to go to college and become a commerical artist, have adventures, etc. – now, here I am thirteen years later with my days taken up with five children – who could care less that I used to have artistic talent . . .

AHHHH! Enough whining – I’m sick of myself!

I made the Chicken Enchillada’s and the Killer queso this weekend for friends and family and both were a HUGE hit! They said things like “you are the queen and Wow your good”! I passed the praise along but enjoyed the moment a little! (especially that queen part!)

Some of us are conditioned to clap enthusiastically when Janice says “here we go,” so Janice, I wholeHEARTedly applaud your delicious recipe post. You are so much fun! That’s called Sunday Night Supper at my house, often prefaced with the sentence, “If you want something to eat before bedtime, grab a bowl of cereal,” as we walk in the door from church — because at that point, I’m pretty much done for the day. 🙂

I missed sending a recipe to Melissa the first time around, but will definitely send something to Holly by Aug. 8. Thanks for the extended time to FIND the recipe I have in mind! I love to cook, love cookbooks and am so excited about this one!!!

PS – Beth, God spoke profoundly to me this past weekend — one WORD after another — some very concise and complete answers to questions I’ve been asking Him for a long while. There’s no way on earth you could’ve known… it was ALL HIM! I’m so grateful. Thank you for being such a willing vessel and for sharing your gifts with us. I love you dearly, sister, and I love HIM even more!!!

Praying for you, Anonymous. His heart is so huge and able to hold your grief and His love is so magnificent and fully able to fill that hole. Interceeding for you.

A wise woman once said (or twice or more) that God doesn’t only change your life, He changes your day, your mood and your emotions. Praying He does just that today!

I just wanted to share this really quick, as I find it kind of funny, and I thought this would be the most appropriate current blog post to put it.

Last night I had a dream with Beth in it. With all the recipe blog posts lately, she was describing another recipe in my dream – something with clams and some sort of tomato sauce, a very odd dish really. I just remember her excitement about it and thinking about how I don’t like clams myself. She was also laughing a lot with all the ladies who were there, having a great time. 🙂 I have no idea where the dream came from, but it made me laugh when I woke up.
