Remembering in the Desert

Guess what!?!? I am blogging from the LPM office today! Isn’t that fun? I almost brought my camera to document the day, but I decided not to pester my co-workers with a camera flash on my first day back. The Jones family made the move down to Houston two weeks ago. I will still be working mostly from home, but on Thursdays Curt and I will switch places so that I can work in-office with the rest of the Village. I have been away for four years and I probably don’t need to tell you how good it feels to be able to see and talk to these wonderful women again on a regular basis! There is a lot of iron sharpening iron in this office and my spirit dearly missed that while I was away. These women have set the bar high and I benefit from their influence in countless ways.

Well, this has been a big week. Curtis started work at LPM, Beth flew up to the Dallas area to do a filming at the Life Today studios, and she heads back out of town again today. She is meeting up with her beloved LifeWay film crew to tape “intros and outros” for the Esther series. (Intros and outros are the little clips you see immediately before and after the teaching sessions.) They will film on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and then we will get her back home on Monday. Beth and the crew would love to have your prayer support during the next few days. The biggest request is for great weather and no rain!

In October of 2006, Beth and the crew filmed intros and outros for the updated version of the Tabernacle study. Beth wrote a really neat reflection about that week and, not having a blog at that time, we posted it on our devotional page. Here’s a link to it in case you’d like to check it out: Remembering in the Desert.

I’m excited to hear that there is an Esther study in the works! She has always been the Bible personality that intrigues me most (apart of my precious Savior of course!). My fascination with her is so consuming that my oldest daughter is named Esther after the young queen of Bible fame. Can’t wait to hear Beth thoughts on one of my favorite books!

I remember those pre-blog days of the weekly devos, and the “guest book”. Welcome back to LPM office! It must be refreshing to “go to work” sometimes instead of just “living at work” as a mom.

I loved remembering the desert! Tube socks, Walmart robes, and glossy pink lipstick. I’m hoping there weren’t any gnats in the Mountains of Utah… May God be praised!!!

I don’t want you to post this, I just wanted to bring this to your attention. I wanted to contact ya’ll asap because I think the following needs to be addressed. A girlfriend of mine has been doing the Oprah Book Club with Eckart Tolle and his book, A new Earth. She was telling me some of the teachings and it is VERY distrubing. I purchased the book myself and read the first four chapters and it is very alarming that millions of women are reading this and participating in this study and think this is the solution and the way to live your life. In essence the book states that Jesus was a prophet like Buddha and Muhammed and that we are all God, there is no heaven it is just a higher state of conciousness, etc. etc. You can log on to you tube and see the video entitled “Oprahs New Church.” God help us all if people are actually falling for ths stuff. Thank you!

Exciting news, Amanda!! 🙂 I was wondering how long ago you moved. And you kept it all a secret from us! Congratulations to you and Curtis. Big Congrats to Beth for not only getting her son-in-law to work with her … but for getting her grandson in the same city! 🙂 When you’re all settled, please post on the moving experience as well as more pics from the wedding!

Anonymous! Regarding your post on Oprah’s book club … I have heard the same concerns from many of my friends. PTL, I haven’t heard much “press” on the book. Though I do know Oprah and the author have live webcasts with teachings on the book.
Lighter news … Oprah had the families of the two Taylor University gals involved in that horrible car accident a couple years ago. Do you remember they mistook the identities of the two girls? Anyway, they were on Oprah and proclaiming the Good News for all to hear! Jesus was glorified on Oprah that day! PTL!

I loved A Woman’s Heart, God’s Dwelling Place! It was the first Beth Moore study I ever did and I actually did it after there were a couple other bible studies written. We (the ladies and I that were in that class)called it “the tabernacle” study. I learned SO much!!! It was in that study that it clicked with me just how much scripture backs up scripture. Where I really learned how to search the scriptures. I have been in church all my life but no one had ever really showed me how to dig and scratch the scriptures. Beth, you helped me develop a love for searching the old and new testaments in a way I had never done before. The old testament came alive for me. I knew the old testament led the way, told the story of what was to come, but the comparisons, the illustraions, the prophecies, the lessons . . . oh, I get excited remembering that time! That has been probably 10+ years ago. Maybe I just need to go out and get the new revised A Woman’s Heart, God’s Dwelling Place and light my fire another notch!

    Love you all.

Thank you so much for posting this piece. I finished the “Tabernacle” study for the first time on Tuesday night. At choir practice on Wednesday night we sang “Holy is the Lord/Holy,Holy,Holy” and I could not even get the words out of my mouth. Tears were streaming!!! Then today I found this and couldn’t stop laughing. God’s timing is perfect.

I just finished the “Tabernacle” study for the first time on Tuesday night. Then on Wednesday night at choir practice we sang “Holy is the Lord/Holy,Holy,Holy” and I couldn’t even get the 3rd “Holy” out of my mouth because of the significance. Tears were streaming down my face. Today I find this on the blog and I couldn’t stop laughing!! God’s timing is so perfect.

My husband and I were on vacation in Utah and Wyoming last October. Our son and his wife were there while he was working on a pipeline job. We flew into Salt Lake and drove to Flaming Gorge and made several stops along the way for drinks and snacks or just to take in the absolute and incredible beauty of God’s creation. At one point Randy stopped at a Wal-Mart for fishing stuff and I went to check out the books. I was quite pleased to find, in a section of mostly Mormonism mannuels, books by various Christian authors and one being Beth’s “Get Out of That Pit.” I even felt the urge to recommend it to a woman shopping the isle who was studying the titles in the Mormon section. I did turn her on to it and encouraged her to do any one of Beth’s Bible studies.
I have had a burden for Mormons and it increased and became even more personal after that vacation. They are precious people in need of Truth and of the uncompromised belief in the One and Only. Just think of how exciting would it be to meet someone from that little diner (or several) in heaven who did look up Phil. 3:10!
I so love your blog and the ministry of LPM. I thank God so much for your gifts and talents and your willingness to serve Him.
    I love you so.

    Because of Him,
    JoAnne

Thanks for the “Remembering in the Desert” link, I am “Kathy” actually Karen (both are K’s close enough:) that Beth met on a trail head at the national park! That was such a God hug for my 3 daughters and I. My husband is a worship pastor here in Utah which is a dry and thirsty land, many women are hungry for truth. God has used Beth’s Bible studies to turn the light on His Word to water and grow many in our church,me included. God has gifted her to turn the beautiful diamond of His word so we can see its many facets from new angles. Thanks for all you do to bring these studies to us.
Something else that I wanted to share was when Beth came to Salt Lake City and shared that God had been quiet with her for a time….I nearly stopped breathing…when we first moved here 5 years ago..He was quiet with me for the first time in my 39 years of being His child. We moved here with a very clear calling of the Lord, got here and details of life did not fall into place as they almost always had in the past…house didn’t sell in our previous state,so not able to purchase and settle in a this new land, our girls were miserable missed “home”, my parents sold the family farm,(my roots here on earth) I responded as an Israelite in the desert…and God was quiet. Two and a half months later the silence was broken and so was I. With eyes to see more, not all, of who God really is. Much more than the one who makes all my wishes and desires come to pass because of my obedience to Him, but the Sovereign One who loves me with an Unfailing Love no matter what my circumstances are. Life with Him does not come wrapped in a neat, pretty package but in threads that are woven by Him to make the quilt for eternity for His Glory, beautiful. A journeying Siesta thanks for all the encouragement on this adventure!

I’m so happy for your family that you were able to be back in Houston.

Thank you for sharing the “Remembering in the Desert” post. Beth’s love of the Lord and others is so inspiring and contagious. :o) It’s one of the things I just love about her.

I also love how she recognized the pleasure of the LORD. My most favorite thing ever is to feel the pleasure of our GOD.

May you all be blessed as you take on this new challenge.

Thank you for sharing such beautiful pictures. I’ve spend some wonderful vacations in places like Zion and the Grand Canyon- some of my best memories with some of the most loved of my family. It’s so cool to see Beth using an area that can be so inhospitable and dangerous yet beautiful, stunning and striking to illustrate some amazing things about who God is and how He walks us through the journey of life. I’m sure it’s not always convinient and easy for you guys to have the ministry you do or to keep all of us SO involved in such close ways, but THANK YOU!! This post was such a bright spot in a very gray and rainy MI day…
