Breaking Free

My mom will be back soon for more wedding talk, but in the meantime I am bursting to tell you all that today is the first day of Bible study for 2008! Beth is incredibly excited and encouraged to meet our group. We will be studying Breaking Free. The core message of this study is simply freedom for the captives. I think it’s fair to say that many, perhaps even most of us siestas have been involved in this study before. I know that everyone who has been changed by Christ’s message of freedom will share in our joy as we set out to proclaim that wonderful message for the next 10 weeks.

We are excited to get to tell you that Breaking Free is being revised, much like the Tabernacle study (A Woman’s Heart, God’s Dwelling Place) was. Some of the messages will stay exactly the same and others will change completely. The updated sessions, which will mirror those taught this semester, will be taped in the fall. We could not think of a better location for the filming than Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans, where the study was originally filmed ten years ago! (Having to add in a little note here with information we didn’t originally have so that we can help prevent calls to their church. The taping is a special occasion between Beth and their church and not open to the public. Thanks so much for your understanding!)

Siestas, may we incite your intercession yet again? (I was going to say “one more time,” but I know as long as there is a Living Proof Ministries, we will be asking for your prayers!) The enemy loves to see God’s people in bondage, and because of that we know he will come against us and against those who will participate in this study. Even so, while we want to be alert and aware, we march into this semester of Bible study with a spirit of victory and not of fear! Amen? Nothing could be dearer to God’s heart than ministering freedom and victory to captives, so we will do it with confidence, fearing no evil.

We claim 2 Timothy 1:7, which says, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.” (The Amplified Bible) And we wholeheartedly believe 1 John 4:4, which tells us, “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” (NIV)

Our primary prayer request this semester is for the captives not to grow discouraged. Please pray that they will indeed be set free! Pray that each one will finish and make freedom in Christ a reality in her life. I am getting excited just typing these words! I am filled with faith that God is going to do a huge work in each life.

Other things to pray for include anointing for Beth to teach, anointing for our praise team to lead worship, wisdom and endurance for our Bible study coordinator (Jennifer) and other staff members, peace and calm over the parking lot and in the sanctuary as the women arrive, that many will come early, that the parking lot will accommodate every car, and for there not to be even one distraction while Beth is teaching tonight. The list could go on and on! Thank you in advance for your prayers. May God’s glorious name be praised!

Well I think that an entry about BF is the place to leave this urgent prayer request. One of my dear friends here in Kansas has a 15 year old daughter who went to an inpatient hospital about 6 weeks ago to be treated for severe obsessive compulsive disorder and anxiety issues. I got a text from her sweet mom two days ago telling me that the staff were feeling like she was not making progress and they did not know if they could help her. She has huge issues with her mom and younger sister, believing they will contaminate her and has refused almost all contact with them, though she is communicating with her dad and brother. I know that there is a medical component to this disease, but I also believe there is a spiritual warfare piece as well and I am asking for you all to pray for this girl–her name is Kate–that God will break the power of the enemy and begin healing her in every way. The night before she left for the hospital the Lord gave me a vision of her in a dark place and His rescue. I am believing Him for it and asking you to believe too!
    Bless you all.

I had to leave one more comment for ScullyDownSouth.
I once heard a pastor talk about the difference between pigs and sheep in a sermon about sin and getting free.
He said that when a pig gets into the mud he will roll around in it and stay there, but when a sheep fell into the mud it would kick and fight to get itself out. And those two heart attitudes made all the difference to our God.
Your enemy would love for you to believe that you are no longer free and therefore don’t have a testimony of freedom to share with others. THAT IS A LIE!
Unless you laid yourself back down into that old way and said “Oh well this is who I am now,” you are just as free as you ever were sister.
    Forgetting what lies behind!
    I am praying for you.
    Kate

jI just completed Breaking Free with you all – my first Beth study ever. Oh how I enjoyed it and can’t wait for more! I love the picture of Beth sitting on the stage with her legs out in front of her as she said, “I’m just having Bible Study with myself!” It was so cute!

    Beth,
What a blessing you are to us in Jacksonville. Thank you for your faithfulness in serving our Risen Lord.
I must share with you something spectacular that happened in my sisters life. She and her husband have been going through a very difficult time physically and financially for the past several months. He has been diagnosed with a rare lung disease at the age of 42 and is unable to work due to his health. However, their faith has remained strong in God’s provision for there family.
Just yesterday, my sister was leaving her job and she said, out of the corner of her eye she could see a homeless man, who just happened to be by her car in a place where she has never seen a homeless man ever before. AS she came near him, God spoke to her spirit and said, “Give him $5.00.” She said, but Lord, “I only have $6.00 to my name.” He spoke again to her the same thing.
After hearing the voice of God again, she dug deep in her purse and found her last $5.00. As she approached the stop sign, where he was standing, she rolled her window down hands length, and said to the man who was unkept, scroungy and appeared to be in need of a bath and some food. “God told me to give you this.” He leaned down with gazing eyes staring right at hers and said, “Thank you, God loves you and so do I.” She was taken back by it so she looked away for a moment and as she was pulling away, she looked back to see if he had moved away from her car enough to pull away. And Sister, he was gone!!! He was no where to be seen. God must have sent an angel to her. She said that she cried all the way home, in her words, because of her unworthiness of our loving Lord.
This is where you fit in to this story. Today, as she was at work, a vendor came in to her office and said, “I have something for you. Would you like a ticket to Beth Moore? It is complimentary for you.” She could not believe it.. How excited she was. God took her $5.00 and made it $55.00. So she could receive a fresh Revelation of who He is… Only He can do that!!! whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was not aware of all this until tonight, when after the conference, I immediately tried to call her to invite her for tomorrow because I knew God had a word for her. At the very same time I was calling her, she was calling me… She said, Stacy, “I have been at Beth Moore God gave me a ticket.. And He spoke to my Spirit.”
Well, I had a shouting time all the way home, thanking God for His Power, and provision in her life.
The word you shared was right on time in her life and mine.
Thank you once again for your dear heart and your love for the Lord.
    In Christ,
    stacy

Thank you for the wonderful pictures. Your mom looked great as usual. I hope the remodeling goes well. Praise God for people turning to Jesus and His word to break free from bondages. I pray God would continue to use your family and this ministry in a mighty way. By the way I love reading other siesta’s comments and seeing the pictures. They are the family I love dearly even though I have never met them.

Tonight I not only attended but had the awesome opportunity to be a volunteer at LPL event in Jacksonville. As we drove up 4:30 women were already lined up outside waitng to get and I heard later that some ladies had been there since 2pm. I have to say it was such an awesome Bible Study and I am looking forward to later today when you finish it. I am apprending what Jesue has in store for me. I love the illustration at the end, oh how we love to look back just like we love to give things to God and then take them back. As you said our future is in front of us and we just have to keep pressing and on and we will run smack dab into Jesus. I wondering how many times he has been standing right in front of me but I never saw him because I was looking back. Thank you for letting the Lord use you in such a mighty way. It was such a blessing to see 14,500 Ladies worshiping our Lord together.

Oh Amanda, my 19 year old daughter and I are in the 5th week of the OLD Breaking Free. I’m sure someday I’ll do the NEW one too. With every study I do, I think, there’s just no way I could be more sold out or in love with Jesus. But with every study, I AM!! I can see that this one is so much more than “knowing stuff”.

Beth, you keep bringin’ em on!!

I’m your “out of town” connection and my son drove me to Houston Tues. night for our last session in exchange for dinner at Tony Mandola’s, worthwhile he claims-He studied for his law school finals during the session- Lisa’s music was better than ever!I was to host a Jacksonville friend at your conference tonight, but finances prohibited me from being there- however, I sent my tickets and sure my friend is being blessed-please know every mile from Austin to Houston was a blessing over the past 11 weeks and the Tuesdays I stayed over at the Houstonian felt like a God sent retreat- my “breaking free” is a process and I am having to accept that deep generational wounds are worth a long soaking in our Lord. As the Holy Spirit would have it, I was invited to participate in a generational Eurcharist last night with my Catholic friends- followed by a laying on of hands- Thank you dear sister for answering your call and using your many gifts of the spirit-You are an inspiration and send a fresh word from our Jesus each time you teach- Blessings and love to you and yours from an “Episcopal” sister.

Beth, Oh what a word you shared with us in jacksonville tonight. Thank you for listening to him on what we needed to hear.

I have had this weekend on my calendar for some time now and my mom and step-mom were suppose to be with me. However both at the last minute could not make it and I was highly disappointed to be alone. Then my day getting here went as wrong as it could(a/c went out in the car, a 4hour drive became 6, and the credit card company put a hold on my cards because they said I hadn’t used them in a few weeks LOL); the entire ride here I debated going back home. Then I entered that room- oh that room of women. And the music began and I looked around and realized, I may not be here with my group but I am NOT here alone. I am here for a weekend with Christ and who better to be spending a weekend with. He had some words for me tonight and I know he has more in the morning. I am ready to press on in life and to stop looking behind me to find the future Christ has laid before me.

Also, your highlights looked fantastic and I seriosuly LOVED your coat!

I think it’s cool that Breaking Free was the last study you went through in the “old” or “former” dressings of the worship center. Throwing off the old and putting on a fresh garment of praise…. just a though..

By the way, Miss Beth….where in the world did you get that jacket. Must. Have…… 🙂

    Blessings to you all!

Can anyone tell me if this thing Beth just finished was a revamp of the Breaking Free study? I just finished the book and would love to do the study at my church. If it is an updated version, when will it be available at Lifeway?
Also, I desire the prayers of the siestas. My dad has been diagnosed with MS. When he and my step-mom went to get his medicine, the co-pay was $394.00! They are already spending over $700 per month on prescriptions as my daddy is also an insulin dependant diabetic with other health concerns. They are only in their 50’s, not veterans, do not qualify for any sort of public assistance – just average folks trying to make it day to day.
Sadly they have strayed from the Lord these past few years. I can’t help but believe all of this could be God trying to draw them back. I believe that our Heavenly Father wants us to rely solely on Him and that sometimes he lets things get rough and uncomfortable for us, desiring us to cry and to Him and to draw near to Him.
Please pray first and foremost that my parents would acknowledge that emptiness and hopelessness that comes from being distant from the Lord. Pray that they would call on Him and humble themselves before Him and invite Him back into their lives. And yes please pray that He would make a way for them concerning Daddy’s medicines.
I need some prayer, too, girls. On Monday we start our new classes in homeschooling. I’ve been doing this for 3 years and I LOVE it! But this year will be the most difficult yet. My boys will be in 1st and 3rd grades. I have a pretty good system worked out, but Satan is doing his best to discourage me – trying to make me feel inadequate. I know I’m doing the right thing for my family, so pray that our first week goes well and that God is in it all the way, because that’s the only way it will work!
I love this blog. It helps me to feel connected and it blesses my soul. I’m forever telling my husband and friends what I read on here.

Love to you all in Christ,

    Amber in TN

Amanda, Thanks for sharing the slides. The outfits your mom wears are just darling and since I can’t pull off that look, I don’t think I’ll even try. ( I’m a charter member of the ‘never had color’ club too!)

Kate, I’m agreeing in prayer with you, sister, and believing God for a miracle in your frind’s daughter Kate’s life.

Scullysdownsouth, do you like word pictures? I hope so because I’m about to share one. In doing some research for a Sunday school lesson on the Armor of God, I learned some facts about the the Roman soldier’s shield that I think may be helpful to you. The shield was 21/2 feet wide by 4 feet long so it actually provided double protection for most of the soldier’s body. Realizing that the enemy set darts on fire before shooting them, the soldiers would wrap their wooden shield in cloth and tough leather before soaking everything in water. As you can imagine when the fiery darts hit the soaked shield, they went sputtering useless to the ground. You (and everyone else reading this) are probably wondering what this has to do with your comment and when I’m going to get to the point already? Well, here’s the point. A very precious Bible teacher we all know and love taught me to use this five-statement pledge of faith to put up my own shield of faith. There was a season of my life about 4 years ago during which I had to say the pledge hundreds of times on any given day. You see, I’m a recovering people pleaser, acceptance addict, and clinging vine all rolled into one and the enemy was relentless in his attack. With my shield in place, the enemy’s fiery darts could no longer get through and I experienced profound growth in the knowledge of God’s Word. Bless the name of Jesus, He set me free. Now, I’m a God pleaser, accepted in the beloved, and the only Vine to which I’m clinging is the One True Vine -JESUS! Not a day goes by that I don’t put up my shield of faith, some days multiple times. Here’s the five-statement pledge of faith: God is Who He says He is. God can do what He says He can do. I am who God says I am: loved, adopted, blessed, chosen, accepted redeemed, and forgiven (given my testimony I needed constant reminders of who I am in Jesus) I can do all things through Christ. God’s Word is alive and active in me. I’M BELIEVING GOD!
The next time you find yourself reeling from the enemy’s attack, no matter how weak your arms, girl, put up your shield of faith. Say this pledge of faith out loud as many times as necessary.
    I’m praying for you,
Blessings from a sister in Florida

I am in the midst of beginning to understand how much I need and want God in my life. It has been a journey that started in complete defeat and is ending is the amazement of what the Holy Spirit can do! I was familiar with Beth through her Wednesday sermons on Life Today and one of her books. I could not believe my luck when I learned I was going to hear her in person!

On the way to the bible study, I asked my sister-in-law what Beth had to say about convincing doubters about Jesus and his message. Amazingly, that evening Beth talked extensively about that very subject.

I know God sent me to see Beth because I have found a thirst in me that has been dry for too long. I am like a sponge right now trying to absorb and retain the gift I received that evening.

I still have many questions but I am on a mission. Thank you and God Bless you, Beth for you unique ability to reach women!
