Siesta Summer Bible Study 2014: Launch and Registration!

Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy.  On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!

Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:

Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.

Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)

1. Your NAME.

2. Your CITY.

3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.

4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!

5. BONUS question (optional):  WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!

If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.

I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:

 Week 1 Memory Verse:

1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.

Week 2 Memory Verse:

1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions

Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.

I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.

    3. Group – There will be 4 of us total and we are meeting at Starbucks every 2 weeks at 8:30 a.m.

    4. I am a SAHM of a 1 year old girl and wife to my dear husband of 5 years. Our church doesn’t offer any kind of Bible Study so a couple of moms came together to do this so we have somewhere to grow/learn.

I am really excited to get started!

    2. I moved back to St. Louis, MO

    3. Solo –

    4. I love doing your studies! I haven’t found a new church home yet so I don’t have a small group any longer but I can’t stop doing bible studies.

    5. I have to do things in order when getting ready in the morning i.e., brush my teeth, wash my face, shower, dress, put on makeup and then do my hair. If I don’t then my morning is off.

  3. 4803
    Allison McGraw says:

    I’m from Ft. Collins, CO

    Going solo on this study

I’m doing the study because I love Beth’s teaching, want to be in Ther Word more & because I’ve not done much in Thessalonians & I love doing new studies in books I’m not really familiar with.
My quirks- I prefer even numbers of things: if I eat some almonds, has to be an even number.. If I put ice in my glass, even number! I now possibly sound a little OCD (which is fine!) but I consider it a quirk!

  4. 4804
    Allison McGraw (again!) says:

(I hit submit too soon!) I just wanted to add that for the past yr or so, it has been my most sincere, heart-felt desire & prayer that people, known to me or not, would see my love for Jesus, and this Him, shine thru my eyes, my words & my actions! And I feel that by doing this study of books of His Word that I am not very familiar with will help bring my prayer, desire come to fruition. And whomever sees this post, if you feel lead, to pray for me in that passion/desire, I welcome it! 🙂

Always looking for a great new Beth Moore study to share with my small group.

    Jenifer Moersch says:

I was very hurt by My God Loving Family! I walked away from God for seven years. Then when I returned I said a short prayer out loud as I was pulling out of the driveway in new town, I said, God please tell me where to drive to church for my two children and myself. Then I drove. For the first time in my entire life, and I have to say I haven’t heard him since.i heard him say turn around and go back to the church. I had passed Dunn street church. The pastors wife introduced me to Beth Moore, she wanted everyone in the church to begin Breaking Chains Bible study!!! I worked through that book, I prayed, cried, loved again, forgave, and the Love of The Lord feeled my heart. All the Chains were Broken in My Life. I love that God gave Beth the gift to write a beautiful bible study. Thank you. I will do this summer Bible study by myself. Thank you.

    4. I have longed to join in for some time. I have done a Gazillion studies, but when I did Stepping Up by myself, it was such a sweet time for me. I was walking thru a time where I wanted to be with my dad in his last days yet wanted to be in the word. I would sit with him and work on the homework. I even read the word to him. It remains such a precious memory for me to this day of my dad’s last days. But I couldn’t join in at the onset for I was with my two teen daughters and husband with a group in ministry to orphans in Guatemala. I still desire to be with you now. Just a little late, but still hungry.
    5. Quirks- hmmm Not certain if this is a quirk but it is so me… I can be deep as the deepest ocean and still find the silliness or funny. I am “steel magnolias” the movie. I can cry one moment and be laughing the next. That is me.

    3. Group- so far there are 3 of us and all moms of small kids. (12 kids to be exact & the oldest of them is 8.) we have met twice so far and I’m sure to anyone else it would be crazy, but we are used to trying to hear through the chaos. The kids watch cartoons upstairs or play outside while we turn up the volume on my tv downstairs and attempt to keep up with you in the video sessions while simultaneously helping babies to share the cars and stay off the kitchen table…
4.I think we all needed something this summer. We are so needed by everyone else and life with babies Is just too crazy and loud and busy to not intentionally try to stop and get some Jesus in. I feel depleted. I need some filling up.
    5. I love peanut butter on pancakes.
