These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

Have you ever loved something so much that you annoy the folks around you because you won’t stop talking about it? While this is so true of new budding relationships, I’m really talking about materialistic things. You know, things like a new pair of sandals, your favorite chocolate milk that you can’t get enough of and well, I think you’re getting the idea.

Needless to say, I think I wear my friends out with my obsessiveness.

Let’s have a little fun, shall we?

I’ll share a list of my recent favorite things, and you share some of yours.

Boom.

After all, it is summer, and for those of us who don’t get a summer break, we all need little things to keep ourselves happy and entertained. Grin.

1) BIC Velocity Pen

Y’all. I do have an unusual love for pens. But I’m beginning to think it’s actually not that unusual.  It’s just that not everyone admits their love for such small, random and possibly nerdy things. But I needed a new batch of pens, because I don’t know about you, but my pens tend to wander. It’s hopeless to try and retrieve them all, so new ones it was. I surveyed the thousands on Staples.com and landed on the BIC Velocity Pen. When I say it took all the self-control in me to not just doodle all day yesterday, I’m not even lying. In fact, I did do a little doodling. So, if you’re looking for a good, inexpensive pen, BIC is your friend.

2) HEB Almond Chocolate Milk

If you do not live in Texas, I realize you have no idea what HEB is, but it is simply a local grocery store. In fact, HEB owns Central Market, which is another Texas gift. I guess we could say that HEB is the generic brand of Central Market. If we were ranking grocery stores (because we never do that) I would place HEB in third place, right behind Whole Foods and Central Market. In fact, it carries many of the Central Market items and that is a beautiful thing. Side Fact: Whole Foods originated in Austin, while the Central Market division originated in San Antonio. It’s ALL a Texas thing. And now I’m laughing because you could care less about all of this grocery store trivia. It’s hard being humble when you’re from Texas. Needless to say, HEB Almond Chocolate Milk takes first prize. I can’t vouch for any other brands since I’ve not even attempted to try any others. But what a waste it would be if I bought a ½ gallon, only to strongly dislike it. I’ll stick to what I know. I’m so addicted I may have to have a glass every night before bed. And maybe every morning. But, hey! It’s better than a bowl of ice cream, right? It’s a little taste of love and joy in a cup.

3) L’oreal Telescopic Mascara

If your eyelashes mean nothing to you, then at this point you might be rolling your eyes at me. If so, feel free to move on. But the number one question I get asked is what kind of mascara I use. I happen to love me some mascara, so I’m delighted to share it with you. And selfishly, I’m not sure what I’ll do if they ever discontinue this particular tube.  So maybe my sharing will get more people to purchase it which might mean it will last forever and ever. But L’oreal Telescopic Mascara is where it’s at. For me, the mascara is all about the wand, and I happen to love the skinny wand it provides. Plus, you can purchase this mascara at virtually any grocery or drug store. Which thrills me to no end.

4) Essie Nail Polish

I think I’ve mentioned before that I am a nail polish freak. My nails and toenails are painted at all times, and as much as I love getting a manicure and pedicure, typically the painting is done by me as I’d rather not break the bank. In fact, for me it’s slightly cathartic. My favorite color right now happens to be watermelon. It’s the perfect pink summery color. But currently Essie has no lack of fun and summery colors.

5) Volcano Candle

As much as I love candles, I’m awful at remembering to light them. That is until the store Anthropologie introduced me to the Volcano candle. The aroma is both inviting and intoxicating. And oh, so addicting. This isn’t necessarily new to me, but rest assured, it will always be a favorite.

6) All Sons & Daughters Live CD

You know how sometimes a musical group sneaks up on you and surprises you with their gifts? That’s how All Sons & Daughters was to me. A few of their songs had been on our rotation at church, but it wasn’t until right before they released their new recorded live CD that I fell in love with them. It was love at first listen. If you’re looking for a new worship CD that is worth your money and one you’ll quite possibly fall in love with every song, look no further. Be blessed. Be ministered to.

7) Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

I’m nearly speechless when it comes to these babies. All I can say is it might be a little taste of heaven on earth. Every other peanut butter cup pales in comparison. They’re just THAT good.

And these, my friends, are just a few of my favorite things.

What are some of your favorite things recently? I love finding new favorite things!

I’m currently listening to All Sons & Daughters, and wow! But I have to tell you, one of my new favorite things is a band called Bellarive. This group of young folks came and led worship at our church a few weeks ago and we just fell in love with their sound and the band members themselves. All their songs have powerful lyrics that stick in your head and have you lifting praise to God at all times of the day or night! You can find them on Facebook or just google Bellarive. You won’t regret it! “Stand tall, for we are daughters, we are sons, step straight into this love, we bear the mark of our Creator!”

I have to say it is my NIV Life Application Study Bible.
I do BSF every year. It was over mid May and I have not been diligent in my studies since that time. I am so grateful for the Summer study on Beth’s blog, Gideon. I started my lessons today. I got on my knees this morning and cried because I missed talking to God. I mean, I talk to Him all the time everyday but this morning I opened the pages to my favorite Bible. God truly spoke a Word to me. Or should I say, I listened to Him. I have several Bible apps on my iPad but it is not the same as my NIV Bible – hard copy.
Be blessed in all that you do.

    Beth,
This happens to me ALL the time: i land on someone’s page, or listen to their music all day, or randomly catch a sermon & then it turns out that it is their birthday. This happened to me today with you. There’s no question God delights in you (Zeph 3:17), but I’m also entirely convinced God delights in celebrating our birthdays with us too (and that is just one way He happens to show it to little old me). Happy birthday to you, beloved Beth. Hitting my knees for birthday prayers for you as soon as I “Submit Comment”! I am one of the “spiritual daughters” you’ve never met. And I can’t wait until one day it is all laid bare at the feet of Jesus. So much love to you. xo! -Amy 🙂

I enjoyed reading your favorites list. I plan on trying your favorite mascara and the chocolate almond milk. I want you to invite you to venture into a Market Street grocery store. It is my favorite grocery store. It is also a Texas brand store with the generic version being United Grocery stores. At both stores having your groceries taken to and loaded into your car is not optional it is provided to ALL customers with a smile. No tips allowed. I try to provide a pleasant smile and conversation to the employee that shares their enthusiasm of their job with me; a customer. Market Street during the holidays when they are packed to the gills with shoppers frantically buying groceries for their holiday meals; has the ability for their customer service to improve! I mainly shop at the Market Street in Colleyville. I took my husband who has a short fuse for crowds on an occasion when we needed our groceries for our Christmas dinner, there was no more time to delay. He agreed to go with me. The parking was on the grass! The line was out the door! It was cold so I ran on in to grab my free sample of hot apple cider while he waited in line to be given a shopping cart. The crowd was so large all shopping carts were in use. The orderly fashion of waiting in line to get a shopping cart directed by a manager of the store was like a well oiled machine in an factory assembly line. The lines to check out were down the isles. There were more managers working the long lines to ensure an efficient manner to move the customers along with out any one being “slighted” of their position in line. This brief description of my husbands 1st trip to Market Street left him very impressed and it is now his favorite grocery store. The quality of service and products from this store are top notch. One other joy of grocery shopping is the food court & gift store upstairs. Allow yourself time to see it all.

I have recently discovered Norwex microfiber cloths. At the risk of sounding like a commercial for this pyramid-based company, I really do love them. Theya are super absorbant and they leave my granite counters and windows streak free. The coolest thing is they have silver woven in the fabric. You can’t see it, but it has an antibacterial affect. So after you rinse your cloth out, you hang it to dry. The thing never smells! I do launder it, but not every day like you would a cotton cloth without the silver. You have to try it to see what I mean!

Well, I have to say my favorite things at the moment aren’t material really, and believe me that is not because I’m so spiritually mature. I’m sure if I was I would have been able to achieve permanent sobriety by now and, of course, if I had I would probably have some material possessions by now. I mean, obviously, I have a few, or I wouldn’t be able to even get on the blog! Well, I guess I could, cause I could go to the library, but I’m not at the library. I’m at home on my laptop. I’m at the moment extremely grateful for friends who will always welcome me with open arms no matter how many times I mess up or how much time I allowed them to celebrate with me before I drank again! Thankfully, this was an extremely short relapse (only a couple of days) and nothing truly horrible happened. It could have been a lot worse. So that’s #1. A second thing I’m grateful for is thunder storms. I actually love them! They should terrify me since I went through one a few years ago that was directly over the top of us and we almost had to evacuate over, but it didn’t. Okay, that one scared me a little, but it didn’t stop me from loving them, and we had a small, fun one tonight, that was just what the doctor ordered for my first day sober again! Thank You, Jesus!

And I do have to say (jokingly of course 🙂 ), why are you guys so selfish with your awesome Texas based businesses? I mean, come on, we northwesterners were willing to share Starbucks with you!!! And that was HUGE!!! I believe your boss would agree 🙂 A little give back is in order here, I think!

Otherwise, I think that’s all of my favorite things for now, though I obviously love Starbucks (Someday I might be able to afford to drink some of that again!) And I do like my computer and my phone, even though it’s very basic and doesn’t include texting. At least it’s a phone. And, of course, still having a roof over my head and a husband whose still willing to give me another chance and let me go to camp with them this summer. I think. I’m not sure he’s totally decided yet. But knowing him, he’ll let me stay.

1 – The ‘Venmo’ app for smartphones. Allows for instant free transfer of $ to other individuals who have the app. Don’t have the right cash on you for splitting a dinner tab – bam! Have an iou for someone – bam! Easy easy!
2 – Riding my bike to get from point A to point B. I feel like a kid again.
3 – Green juices (Think carrots, cucumbers, spinach, kale, gala apples & pear)
4 – TRX gym classes (The saddest part about this one is how late to the game I am)
5 – Book of Romans is speaking to me these days…man oh man does it preach for itself

I get joy from watching him *literally* stopping to smell the flowers. this pup loves to smell EVERYTHING and jump in every puddle. (and chew all my shoes but that is not one of my favorites haha)

I love that you are not afraid to admit that you’re a little obsessed with things! I know it must annoy others when I get so excited about something because it doesn’t excite them like it does me. But I just love some things!

I’m currently obsessed with my new Louis Vuitton handbag that my husband got me as a one year anniversary present. Totally surprised me! A

nd since it’s summer, I’m also obsessed with smoothies of all kinds lately!

i LOLed when you said your pens tend to wander. at work we use Pilot G2 .5mm pens. i can twirl them (thanks to hours spent on hold with insurance companies and the IRS…) and they are my favorite pens to doodle with. i also happen to have a purse full of them!! i always stick em in my scrubs pocket and promptly forget until i’m at home… (: thanks for the light-hearted post. it was fun!
