These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

Have you ever loved something so much that you annoy the folks around you because you won’t stop talking about it? While this is so true of new budding relationships, I’m really talking about materialistic things. You know, things like a new pair of sandals, your favorite chocolate milk that you can’t get enough of and well, I think you’re getting the idea.

Needless to say, I think I wear my friends out with my obsessiveness.

Let’s have a little fun, shall we?

I’ll share a list of my recent favorite things, and you share some of yours.

Boom.

After all, it is summer, and for those of us who don’t get a summer break, we all need little things to keep ourselves happy and entertained. Grin.

1) BIC Velocity Pen

Y’all. I do have an unusual love for pens. But I’m beginning to think it’s actually not that unusual.  It’s just that not everyone admits their love for such small, random and possibly nerdy things. But I needed a new batch of pens, because I don’t know about you, but my pens tend to wander. It’s hopeless to try and retrieve them all, so new ones it was. I surveyed the thousands on Staples.com and landed on the BIC Velocity Pen. When I say it took all the self-control in me to not just doodle all day yesterday, I’m not even lying. In fact, I did do a little doodling. So, if you’re looking for a good, inexpensive pen, BIC is your friend.

2) HEB Almond Chocolate Milk

If you do not live in Texas, I realize you have no idea what HEB is, but it is simply a local grocery store. In fact, HEB owns Central Market, which is another Texas gift. I guess we could say that HEB is the generic brand of Central Market. If we were ranking grocery stores (because we never do that) I would place HEB in third place, right behind Whole Foods and Central Market. In fact, it carries many of the Central Market items and that is a beautiful thing. Side Fact: Whole Foods originated in Austin, while the Central Market division originated in San Antonio. It’s ALL a Texas thing. And now I’m laughing because you could care less about all of this grocery store trivia. It’s hard being humble when you’re from Texas. Needless to say, HEB Almond Chocolate Milk takes first prize. I can’t vouch for any other brands since I’ve not even attempted to try any others. But what a waste it would be if I bought a ½ gallon, only to strongly dislike it. I’ll stick to what I know. I’m so addicted I may have to have a glass every night before bed. And maybe every morning. But, hey! It’s better than a bowl of ice cream, right? It’s a little taste of love and joy in a cup.

3) L’oreal Telescopic Mascara

If your eyelashes mean nothing to you, then at this point you might be rolling your eyes at me. If so, feel free to move on. But the number one question I get asked is what kind of mascara I use. I happen to love me some mascara, so I’m delighted to share it with you. And selfishly, I’m not sure what I’ll do if they ever discontinue this particular tube.  So maybe my sharing will get more people to purchase it which might mean it will last forever and ever. But L’oreal Telescopic Mascara is where it’s at. For me, the mascara is all about the wand, and I happen to love the skinny wand it provides. Plus, you can purchase this mascara at virtually any grocery or drug store. Which thrills me to no end.

4) Essie Nail Polish

I think I’ve mentioned before that I am a nail polish freak. My nails and toenails are painted at all times, and as much as I love getting a manicure and pedicure, typically the painting is done by me as I’d rather not break the bank. In fact, for me it’s slightly cathartic. My favorite color right now happens to be watermelon. It’s the perfect pink summery color. But currently Essie has no lack of fun and summery colors.

5) Volcano Candle

As much as I love candles, I’m awful at remembering to light them. That is until the store Anthropologie introduced me to the Volcano candle. The aroma is both inviting and intoxicating. And oh, so addicting. This isn’t necessarily new to me, but rest assured, it will always be a favorite.

6) All Sons & Daughters Live CD

You know how sometimes a musical group sneaks up on you and surprises you with their gifts? That’s how All Sons & Daughters was to me. A few of their songs had been on our rotation at church, but it wasn’t until right before they released their new recorded live CD that I fell in love with them. It was love at first listen. If you’re looking for a new worship CD that is worth your money and one you’ll quite possibly fall in love with every song, look no further. Be blessed. Be ministered to.

7) Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

I’m nearly speechless when it comes to these babies. All I can say is it might be a little taste of heaven on earth. Every other peanut butter cup pales in comparison. They’re just THAT good.

And these, my friends, are just a few of my favorite things.

What are some of your favorite things recently? I love finding new favorite things!

    OOOOOOHHHHHH how fun 🙂

I am soooo in love with my new cd of Chris Tomlin “Burning Lights” – that is all I’m talking about… I bought it for 1 song and now have ended up loving each and every song… pretty much my only cd I’m listening to at this point…so poignant!

    Trident -watermelon flavoured gum…chewing & praising 😀

Tim Horton’s coffee and donuts…all of is sooo good!

Well just a few items… Sharing is joyous!

Love Tim Horton’s donuts too. We live in the south so there are no Tim Horton’s here. Every time we head back to Canada, we OD on Tim’s (love their honey crullers) and stash up on coffee.

To answer your first question at the top of your post. Yes. That is pretty much our story. We are evangelists for all thigns we like… Apple computers/devices, certain foods, certain tricks to help baby sleep through the night, you name it. We like it enough to love it, we tell everyone! 🙂 To their dismay I’m sure! 🙂 Thanks for all the items you shared. Looks like you have terrific taste!

    Cyndy says:

    1) coconut oil for moisturizing. Slather it on after a shower and skin looks great! Put it on hands at night and cover with cotton gloves and in the morning you will have the softest. prettiest hands.

    2) I love colored pens. I pick a different color for each new Bible study and only use that colored pen for the entire study.

    3) I love office supplies. Those white out rollie things, colored paperclips, paper, notebooks, etc.

    3) Aloe vera plants. I have a huge one and I am constantly giving the “babies” away, along with advice on how to use it for burns, sunburns, rashes, and shingles.

      Lindsee says:

Cyndy, as much as I’ve heard about coconut oil, I think I’m really gonna have to try it out!

      • Deanna says:

I use coconut oil for/on EVERYTHING!!! Cooking, moisturizing, in my smoothies, etc. Trader Joe’s has the best flavor and price.

    Marsha R. says:

    Lindsee,
I’m right there with you on #7. The closest Trader Joe’s to my house is 2 hours away and the pnut butter cups are a.l.w.a.y.s. on my list. I usually snatch up a few jars so I’m sure to have it on hand. I think they are so good because it’s real peanut butter stuffed in real chocolate. So there you go…eating real food has to be good for you.

  5. 5
    Michele says:

Thanks for the mascara tip, Lindsee!

    1. Cardinals. That bright red color is so beautiful and oh good night their songs – I could listen to them all day.

    2. Buffalo chicken with bleu cheese. Any way, any time.

    3. Reese’s

    4. Downton

    5. Person of Interest (see #3) 😉

    • 5.1
      Lindsee says:

Michele, what does person of interest mean? You’ve got me all intrigued! 😉

      • Michele says:

Lindsee, have you not seen POI? My favorite show alongside Downton.

Jim Caviezel – who played Jesus in The Passion – is one of the main characters and his name is Reese. So my #3 refers to peanut butter cups but also may or may not refer to a slight crush. 😉 #hawt

The other protagonist is Michael Emerson from Lost. And a cool dog named Bear. Fantastic show, and so timely for what is happening in our society with technology! You can check it out on CBS website.

        • Lindsee says:

Oh! Yes! I have heard of it but I’ve never seen it. Good to know! I’ll have to check it out! Thanks for clarifying. 🙂

    Stephanie Volkmer says:

    oh, fun topic!!

    Favorite things:

new books: they have the stiff unyielding pages and the wonderful new book smell, so intoxicating

my TARDIS necklace. I’m a huge geek, and it makes me really happy when others recognize what it is. (Hint it’s from Doctor Who?)

White Citrus perfume from Bath and Body works, light summery crisp smell. I can’t really explain it very much after that, but it’s incredible.

Here on Earth (Bryon and Katie Torwalt)one of the most amazing worship cd’s I’ve come across in the past couple of years. Really ushers in the presence of God.

much like you Lindsee I have a pen obsession: my favorite pen choice is “EnerGel Pental .7 black ink click pen” The reason that I love this pen is because it doesn’t smear and it dries fast, and when you are a leftie, like I am, it’s something that you definitely look at.

I love Burt’s Bee’s lip gloss, the simply natural gloss. Don’t even need anything underneath it, glides on smooth and isn’t sticky.

🙂 great post, and I’m gonna have to check out some of those that you suggested…:)

    Tamara says:

Those are my favourite pens too!!! Simply the best pen I’ve found.
(But you won’t get away with walking away from my desk with it. I will follow you and ask for it back if you try.)

    Kristin A. says:

Fun! Thanks for the mascara recommend. I tend to bounce around a bit with mascara. Most recently I have Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume, but it needs replacing, and since no one has EVER asked me what kind of mascara I wear (grin) I think I’ll try yours! Ah, the little things.

So, I am actually really bad at picking favorites, but a few are:
*Burt’s Bees Buttermilk Milk Bath. Such a soothing fragrance. Just love it.
*PartyLite candles, usually votives as they burn so beautifully.
*Juanita’s corn tortilla chips. Tortilla chips so good you just want to eat them out of the bag!
*the Hymns 4 Worship station on Pandora (the Hymns station is also nice, but can get a little sleepy).
*and, of course, the LPM blog! grin! You ladies, both at LPM and all my siestas are, of course, my favorites!

Without a doubt, Harry & David Dark Chocolate Truffles are at the top of my favorites list. They’re only available around here during the holidays so I need some very badly at this point 🙂

I am so blessed both to have fun things…My Father God is so good to me…

    Joyful in Him….Tessa

    Sandy Bowers says:

Hmmmm, a few of my favorite things….. Why do I only think of food things? I really love popcorn…..really. And a large (NOT the super large Route 44) vanilla Coke from Sonic. Has to be Sonic, because their ice is another one of my favorite things. Dark Chocolate/Raspberry Dove bars. Raindrops on roses and whiskers…..oh wait…..I digress. Love, love, love Celtic Woman, the Irish singing group. Love their CDs, their DVDs and seeing them in concert, even the same show over and over (and over and over) again….I won’t tell you how many times I’ve seen them in concert because you might think I’m a groupie…..although the fact that they know me by name might validate that thought. My family would concur. My favorite pastime is scrapbooking. My favorite NFL team is the Miami Dolphins and my favorite college team is THE Ohio State University Buckeyes. I’m sure there is more, but my family is awaiting dinner (one of my LEAST favorite things to do.) Love you Lindsee and all my siestas!

    • 13.1
      Michele says:

I have heard many people talk about Sonic ice. I didn’t know the shape of water made such a big difference. Interesting.

      • Sandy Bowers says:

And the funniest thing, Michele, is that I rarely even eat the ice. Just drink it through the straw….but when I do want the ice, it is very easily chewed and doesn’t hurt my teeth. I know….weird.

      Deborah Mott says:

Iloved reading your “Raindrops on roses and whiskers…..oh wait…..I digress” thought of Sound of Music at Lindsee’s title also! I remember as a youngster singing songs from this movie for almost a whole evening at the top of our lungs and having a blast! thanks. Great memories. Clean fun. Thank you!

    Rebecca says:

Unsweetened Almond Milk–trying to cut the carbs because they make me feel bad and this is a sweet alternative to regular milk! 🙂

Cha-Ching Cherry nail polish by OPI…oh so wonderful! 🙂

    3×4 or 3×3 brightly colored post-its with lines. YES.IT.IS.GOOD! 🙂

Avon’s Super Shock Mascara in Waterproof Black. LOVE.IT! It doesn’t flake, unless you leave it on all night and when you wake up the next morning, well there will be flakes. So this mascara to me is perfection. No flakes, no runs, and beautiful lashes. AND it washes off wonderfully with just soap and water. Gotta love it!

    Love the favorites post!! Thanks!

    Becky says:

I am a writing utensil fanatic, so thank you for the BIC pen suggestion!
Some of my recent favorite things:
    – Buying books. It must be a summer reading mentality thing. I’m normally a big book buyer anyway but I’ve purchased 8 books in the past week. I may have a problem.
    – Sephora brand nail polish. They recently came out with a nail polish line of smaller sized bottles in tons of different colors. LOVE!
    – Fruit. I want to eat it ALL THE TIME.

    LaCroix Sparkling Water – yummy!

Tom’s of Maine Whole Care Spearmint toothpaste – natural

Target’s popcorn – I can’t resist…the smell bombards my senses the moment I enter the door.

    Jennifer B. says:

I had a big grin when I was reading this post!! I share your same obsession for pens and nail polish! I’m very particular about my pens…you should have seen me over the years trying to color coordinate my ink color with the color scheme of Beth’s bible studies…I know…nail polish I love OPI because of their creative names (do you lilac it, I ate berries in the canaries, and Suzi says feng shui are my favs). I am in love with my Clinique lipstick – amber glass. Coffee ice cream, and lately…flowers! They truly give me “estatic joy”! Thanks for this post

Those Trader Joe’s peanut butter cups are the best. We don’t have a Trader Joe’s close by so when my dad goes out of town where there is one he always brings me home a carton, whether I need them or not! Love my dad!
I do pretty good allowing myself one a day. Humm

Nexus pro-mend split end binding. Cannot be without this! You don’t want to see me without this!

Love the Vera Bradley print Tutti Frutti. The mint green background is so fresh and summery. In fact, I’ve been buying everything in this shade
lately. I’ve purchased a bathing suit, nightie, robe, shorts, shirt, and sandals in this refreshing shade of green. I’m sure I will get tired of it by Fall. I will have to go get the mascara and nail polish. Always love to try new makeup! Thanks for the tip! Have a wonderful night.

    Susan Horton says:

Because my 14 yr old daughter has been in a deep depression the last few months, my favorite thing is the sound of her laughter. It’s been ready, darling and infectious today. And so rare the last year or so.

I also enjoy a good iced coffee, sitting on my patio admiring my pots of flowers and talking to my mom on the phone. With music by Point of Grace in the background!

      Tara says:

Praying for your daughter at this moment!

      • Susan Horton says:

Thank you so much, Tara. Another favorite thing: the prayers of God’s people!

      • Deborah Mott says:

Yes, praying for your daughter. Depression can be terrible but it is where JESUS became real to me. The song “Your My Little Girl” on album Infectious by band Go Fish really was used of the LORD to help me keep going and know He was with me and saw and understood and claimed me as HIS! Great song. I pray the roots of why she is depressed are brought forth in the LORD’s time and way and healing comes for her as the LORD seeks her and desires her full redemption and her relationship with JESUS trumps it all.

One of my best girlfriends just gave birth to her first baby, a little girl. I. Am. BESOTTED. She is only five weeks old, and delightful in every, perfect, new baby way. Babies…yes, a favorite for sure! A Baby changed everything! Grace came in the form of the greatest baby: JESUS!!!! The HOPE, our Messiah: our favorite Baby of all times!!!! To think the GOD whose throne is heaven and earth is His footstool came as a baby! To empty Himself for us! What a Magnificent Savior!!!! (His Thoughts and Ways are so above ours! Isaiah 55:8-9)

It is so dangerous for me to shop there alone because I need help to not buy the whole store, if you know what I mean. My favourite flowers are Stargazer Lillies. So beautiful !!

I also must say that I seem to be telling so many people about these amazing homemade snickers bars. Yum! Mouth’s watering just thinking about them 🙂 It’s a recipe I found on Pinterest, which is also another thing I love!

    4. Hillsong Live
    5. Homemade flavored water…flavored with whatever fruit & some herbs. Sooooo good!
    6. Kenra hair products. Best mousse & hairspray EVER!!! My drab hair is miraculously turned into a curly, shiny mess of beautiful 🙂
    7. Homemade soaps. Not that I make them…I buy them. Lots of them.

Also, I love your random posts about “nothing”. They are always so refreshing and so real life…In the midst of life, life happens. It’s the little things that make the memories 🙂

    My favorite things:
    1. Big Red Soda: it’s a strong, red, sugar soda that is only found in Texas. It’s addicting, but at the same time bad for your kidneys. I drink one in the morning to start my drive to work.
    2. Kari Jobe: I love Kari Jobe music. It’s a soft melody Christian singer who totally brings words out clearly. Favorite song: Everyone Needs a Little.
    3. Devotional Books: I LOVE to read devotional books. Currently reading, “Once a Day Every Day For Women. Excellent to take to work.

Lindsee I too love pens and want a good writing pen. I’m going to try yours.

I love Starbucks. Don’t go that often but once in a while I treat myself. So good!

Love all things Jane Austen. Read and re-read her books.

Love to cook and unfortunately have bought way to many cookbooks, but love going through them and finding new recipes.

I share your love of pens and all things “stationary/office supply related… I just told somebody the other day that if I had ever worked at an office supply store, I would have had to file for bankruptcy ages ago. I have to try every new ink pen that comes out! I love the Sharpie Pens that I found in a pkg with 4 different colors. I keep one set in my Bible bag and another set to use for scrapbooking… Ultra fine tips are just perfect for both.

Right now I am driving everybody around me crazy with talk about the scrapbooks I have been working on for the last 10 weeks or so for my great-nieces graduation. I have no children of my own and her mother, my niece, I have loved like she was my own child since she was just a little thing. So, naturally, her children are the apples of my eyes. Bre just graduated from high school and is going to attend Ohio Christian Univ. I am a VERY proud Great-Aunt and love talking about her scrapbooks. (She absolutely LOVES them by the way!)

I LOVE the sharpie pens, too, Wilma. That’s typically my go-to, but I decided to switch it up a bit!

Ok, I am listening to All Sons And Daughters right now and must agree! Whole heatedly a favorite.

To add, here’s my list, based on where we are living now in Moscow. Each time we move we create a “good things” list about that new place. Every place has them. It makes transition easier.

    1. Bethel, ‘For the Sake of the World-Live’ CD (especially Our Father version of Lord’s Prayer and This Is What you Do)
    2. Russian chocolate by Red October, especially with almonds
    3. Kefir or yogurt here must have more natural fat because it is heavenly even plain
    4. Cmetana (sour cream but unlike what I used to buy elsewhere) goes on pancakes or in soups
    5. The 7 Experiment by Jen Hatmaker is changing me and my family and bible study group
    6. Getting bible study workbooks via Lifeway Reader! This is a personal gift to me living overseas!
    7. Being able to download video versions of popular bible studies…shipping and transport is $$
    8. Getting to stay connected as a Siesta and listening to Beth via the blog
    9. How close our family gets when overseas..this is 3rd country in 8 years and our bond is special
    10. Belly laughs over word puns especially in foreign contexts, all around snorting and laugh tears with my teens and husband

    I want to play!! 🙂

Collard greens. I can’t seem to get enough of them.

I tend to replay songs until everyone around me is completely sick of that song. My current favorite Luke Bryan’s “Crash my Party”.

The round EOS lip balm. I’m about out of Tangerine and moving on to Summer Fruit.

“Whiskers on kittens and warm woolen mittens. Snowflakes that stay on my nose and my lashes…”

Sally Hanson Hard as Nails Acrylic Wrap Top Coat.

It take FOREVER to dry. Maybe a nail dryer light would benefit. But I’ve used the fast dry spray with success. Anyway…I swear my nails never chip anymore. I can paint them and the the manicure stays in place til I think it should be replaced. No damage to nails like the salon. I love this product. And I do use every opportunity to tell about it and have even gifted it to people. 🙂

Tanya, as much as I paint my nails, I’m totally trying this. Thank you!

      • Deanna says:

Since you like Essie, another great quick-dry product by Essie is Good to Go. I buy my polish from the beauty supply stores (licensed stylist) and not sure if they sell it retail. Definitely worth the search though. I’ve looked here in Houston and I haven’t found Essie products yet. If I do, I’ll pick up an extra for you (so weird, I know. You don’t know me but I worship with you at church). Ha ha. Until I do find it, I’m trying the Sally Hanson one as well.

        • Lindsee says:

Deanna, you are the sweetest. That nail polish sounds legit! 🙂 And I’d love to meet you on Sunday!
