Announcing Siesta Summer Bible Study 2013

Hey friends! Just a quick update! We’re getting a lot of questions in the comments about logistics of how everything works like how the video driven study works, where you can purchase the videos, how much they’ll be, if you need to to the study alone or in a group, how to purchase the book and etc. Be looking for a post soon on each of those details! I promise we’ll do our best not to lead you astray. In the meantime, purchasing your workbook is top priority! You can find a link to the LifeWay website right below the video. Until further notice, I hope that helps! We’re so grateful you’re excited! And we’re excited, too!

    Awesome!! Excited!
Now all I need is life way to spiral bind the workbooks. Makes it soooooooooo much easier to write on back side pages and keep track of where you are!

I agree! I usually take all our books to Kinkos and pay $7 each to have them coil bound, but I would love to purchase them this way.

    Betty McBroom says:

Will most of this be on Vimeo and Video? No transcripts and no subtitles for the deaf? I’m disappointed although I know it is too much to ask for the written word when it is easier for Beth to talk.

“…She really is gluten to me, and I hope to have that gluten in my life, for the rest of my life.” That is the funniest thing you have ever said!

My daughter and I are looking forward to this study. Our workbooks are ordered! Can’t wait to get them and get started. We just finished a study on David with Beth and learned so much. Thank-you for all you do.

Hello, I am new to all this. How do these Bible studies work? Is it discussion on-line with the blog? Do I get a group together like normal and do the workbook with them, and this is just a forum to discuss it further with tons of other women? I just don’t understand how it works.

      Danielle says:

I was wondering the same thing. We were going to make an announcement about it at church tomorrow but we don’t know the details about time, etc. I’ve never done a bible study before.

    Beth and Lindsee….

So want to do this Bible Study! I am unfamiliar with how this all works…could you give me some additional information. I understand you can do it individually, or group. We purchase book and video. How does this work with Beth’s community of Sisters? Sorry, just trying to figure this all out.

Just the title of this book lifts me up and encourages me, and reminds me of one of my all time favorite verses. Nehemiah 8:10b …for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

This is really exciting. One of my favorite accounts in the Bible narratives is the story of Gideon. His reluctance to be a hero, his self-doubt and then the eager enthusiasm that would prompt him to ask God to wait while he slaughters and prepares a goat for a meal… I want to be like GIDEON. ๐Ÿ™‚

I am so pumped for this study!

    Dusti says:

I’m a high school teacher (I’ll just say it…bless my heart!) but feel that God is calling me to guide/mentor teenage girls spiritually. I already teach a senior girls’ Sunday School class but would love to do a Bible study outside of church time. Do you think Gideon would be a good one to do with high school girls this summer? If not, is there another that you recommend? Thanks!

    • 112.1
      Lindsee says:

Hey Dusti! Since I’ve not done it, I can’t say whether or not it would be good for that age group. I can’t imagine it not being beneficial, though. However, I did So Long, Insecurity with high school girls last summer, and it was great! Just a thought.

    Denise Neal says:

If I miss one of the videos can I make it up? Looking forward to this!

We cannot wait! My good friend and I are ready to start this next study :). As homeschooling mamas, we love summer studies to keep us grounded in the Word! Thanks Beth and Priscilla and LPM ladies :)!

    Nicola says:

An amazing thing is happening in our church. Fourteen years ago a group went to the leadership and asked if they could form a group to study Henry Blackaby’s Experiencing God. If I told you it is a very liberal church with ultra liturgical outlook would it help you understand that they said no, we don’t do that sort of thing around here? Most of the group left the church for greener pastures but God gave me stern instructions. Stay and pray. I fought and kicked and screamed but He gently said He loved these people and would look after things. I became a missionary in my own church.
Slowly (to me) God changed things. Now this summer a group of us approached the new leadership with Jesus One and Only by our own Mama Beth and they said YES! Praise God! 25 women have signed up! Every Sunday a few more express interest. The Word is Moving in this place! Please pray for us!
So I won’t be doing Gideon with you but I’ll be in the Word and the Spirit with you!

    Pam Houston says:

So looking forward to Siesta Summer Bible Study! This will be an epic Summer for my husband and I as we traverse across the whole of the N to NE portion of the United States in our “Big Boy” Country Coach! I will never forget the Summer of 09 when we did the Alaskan trek with friends and we loved doing precious Jennifer Rothschild “Me, Myself and Lies”. Now, I will get to “meet” Priscilla Shirer up close and personal and take “Gideon” with us on the most comprehensive journey we have every attempted in our lives for a Summer trip!We will be gone a minimum of 8 weeks on the road! Whew! We have ministry stops all across the way in the hearts and lives of loved ones, and will be delivering an SUV that we will tow behind all the way to Pollock, SD for a retiring Nazarene Minister and his wife. This will also be a “first” for us, towing a car behind our rig…the thought of it is a little daunting, but we will journey out by faith, knowing the LORD will lead the way. We will travel all the way to Penn. and take in sights and sounds and experiences along with “Prayer-RVing” as I pray through geographically for leadership and saints and ministries of the Light of the Kingdom of God across our great nation. There is only One Body! Praying too Beth that the taping for 1 and 2 Thess. was blessed and anointed and you feel the release of a job well-done for Kingdom work! I’m excited for that study too! “Oh, the things you will do!”
    Lovingly for His Glory…

Eeeeek!!!! The workbook is on its way to me right now!! I’m SO excited for this study. P.S. I have to be gluten free, but I don’t have to be Gideon free. Just keepin’ it dorky. LOL!

I’m so excited about this study. My group just finished “One in a Million” by Priscilla Shirer last night. She is a tremendous teacher. I especially love how she uses analogies.

    Thanks for all you do!!!

    Melissa says:

Hi! I was so excited for this study and had rallied a few girlfriends to do it together. Sadly, we cannot find an inexpensive way to get the workbook in Canada. Its twice the price on LifeWay and our local Christian bookstore doesnt have access to it yet.

I’m wondering if you know of any alternatives to get our hands on that amazing work book? If we download the videos, would we be able to do it a little bit later in the summer once we get our hands on the books?

    Thanks so much!
    Melissa

    Missy Eury says:

Ok… So I cheated and already started!!! Let me just say that DAY ONE was life changing for me!!! I realized some partial obedience that I had to take care of. Been blocking people on FB all morning!!! Going to be FANTASTIC if God has already done a major adjustment in ONE day!!!

Last summer we had 700 women join us online with the summer study, and many asked us for scholarship books. We currently have 900 women in our Breaking Free study and 600 in another study. Since we are a volunteer ministry and do not sell products or charge any fees, we depend entirely on donations for the scholarships. We do not have tax exempt status either! During the Beth Moore summer series for the past four years, our scholarship requests exceed our donations. Can you recommend a place where these women can go for scholarship workbooks? Thank you.

Hey Beth!:) ((HUGS)) to you:) I’m going to try and participate. It may just be me though this time, and I will do my best to keep up with the homework with two little ones:) May just have to do videos, but I do NEED to be in the Word this Summer. Blessings to you today Beth.

    Roxanne says:

So when Beth says there will be a link to the video for this class, does that mean we can watch the video for free? I don’t want to pay to see each of them and it doesn’t look like the book would be much good if you don’t watch the video. Think I’ll hold off on ordering till there’s more info.

Getting a group of friends together from all over – and going to be doing the study via Google+ Hangouts! Excited to start.

Hope that you have a FAQ coming out this week… lots of questions arising on how the study works.

    Thanks for doing this!

    • 140.1
      Julie says:

After reading some of the other comments in this post, I am seriously disheartened to learn that we will have to buy the videos on top of the study. I was planning to do this online with friends – so each of us would have to buy the videos too?!? Which mean this will be upwards of $50+ for book/videos each?!

I wish that had been listed out or spoken about before I bought the book.

      • Lindsee says:

Hi Julie! I am so sorry we have disappointed you. What you might do is that each of you and your friends take turns purchasing the video. So if there are six of you in the group, each of you can purchase one video, since they are $5 each. At the same time, y’all are more than welcome to do the study without the videos. I have no doubt it will be just as beneficial. I hope that helps! Blessings!

        • Julie says:

Thanks Lindsee. I understand about the videos – my group is from all over the midwest (meeting via Google+ … social media at it’s finest!) which is why I was disheartened that we would each need to purchase the videos to view them. (Beth did get back to us on twitter yesterday & let us know that the videos are optional.)

One more quick question – because of the number of people that will be purchasing this (via the Siesta Study) – would Lifeway be offering any discount for the group on the videos?

          Thanks again!!!

(PS… your replies on the site do not send notifications. I had to check back here to see that you did , in fact, respond. Check with your design/hosting company on that – super helpful for keeping the conversation going and follow up!)

          • Lindsee says:

Hi Julie, I have not heard that LifeWay will be offering them at a discount price, but you are welcome to ask them that. We are just offering the chance to do the study. The videos are totally optional, as we’d hate to stress anyone out! But we do hope you’ll join us. Blessings!

        • Sian says:

Actually, I just asked Lifeway if we could do this and they said no. If you are in a group you ether all have to purchase all the videos or you have to purchase the DVD’s leadership pack…

          • Lindsee says:

Sian, thank you for letting me know this. I do know that the videos are optional. So it is completely up to you who are participating. Absolutely zero pressure!

        • Roxanne says:

Rats! So we will have to buy the videos!! I was afraid of that. Guess if I had a group of friends to split the cost it wouldn’t be so bad. But, since I don’t have any friends to do this with, guess I’ll have to pass. And, unless this study is really different, every video study I’ve looked at are next to impossible to do without the video. Maybe next time Beth could look into a Bible study that doesn’t need videos. Thanks!!

          • Lindsee says:

Hi Roxanne, I know Beth has told a handful of people that the study is more than possible to do without the videos, they are just a bonus. You all have zero pressure to join us, but just know the videos are bonus option. We’d love to have you join us! I’m so sorry for any miscommunication.

      • Jess says:

I agree, I’m so disappointed! I’m new to all of this because I usually do a bible study through my church and don’t know all the ‘ins and outs’ of planning something like this but I feel very disillusioned. Maybe this is completely my fault but I never thought that we’d have to purchase the online videos to go along with the study and now, since I was the one that encouraged a group of friends to take part, I feel like I’m responsible for purchasing the videos rather than asking them to pay more than I originally asked. I really wish this would have been clear at the beginning. I also wish there was some more information about how it’s all going to work since it’s all supposed to start in a little over a week…

        • Lindsee says:

Hi Jess, I am so sorry you are discouraged and you feel that we led you astray. The videos are completely optional, so it is totally up to you. The most important part of the study is most definitely your workbook and your Bible. I promise you more information is coming, we have just been swirling over here and I don’t want to lead anyone astray on their questions! But be looking for a post hopefully Monday regarding details!

        • Cathy Stoner says:

Jess, you took the words right out of my mouth. I will say a prayer for you that everything works out for the best and that God touches your life as well as your friends and that each of you grow closer to God.

    Joan says:

I just got my BOOK !!!! I am quite excited to do this study. Quick question: How do you gals normally do this as an online group? I know some might do it as a small group with their church/friends. Are there any online groups that form when doing a study like this or is it one BIG group here on LPM?

    Thanks

    • 146.1
      Lindsee says:

Hey Joan, there might be some online groups floating around, not totally sure. But you’re welcome to follow along individually with us or form a group of your own, or do whatever works best for you. That’s the beauty of the summer blog study!

Hey, I’m really excited about the new summer bible study. I live in Europe, and today I was ordering a workbook. My chagrin, it is not at the moment be here. I thought then ordered directly from Lifeway USA. Book will cost $ 12.90, which is a wonderful thing, but they take delivery costs $ 53. I have ordered dozens of times from there and christianbook for, but I’ve never paid that kind of sums up one of the books the shipping costs. I’m kind of against the wall right now … I so wanted to be involved, as I have been involved for many summers. blessings M
