Things You May Not Know About Me

I don’t know about you, but I’m a list maker. A lot of days I miss actually putting pen to paper and writing out a list, but with technology these days, that just isn’t necessary. With that said, it will come as no shock to you that the “Notes” app on my iPhone might be my favorite app ever. The lists are endless. And they’re not going anywhere.

Sometimes when I’m at a loss for what to write, a list helps me organize my thoughts, so today I’m bringing you a list. Because yes, today I’m at a loss for what to write.

A list of what, you might be wondering? A list of things you may not know about me. If I knew how long the list was going to be, I’d tell you, but alas, this is all off the top of my head, so by the end of this post, we’ll both know how long the list is. I don’t know whether to apologize or say you’re welcome, but humor me today, will you? I’m laughing. I really do love y’all so much.

1. I have not gone to bed once without washing my face since about the 6th grade. Should I also mention that my morning routine is the exact same every morning? This may or may not label me OCD. And I admit, I have a few OCD tendencies. But don’t we all?

2. I am an inappropriate laugher. It’s very unfortunate. For instance, a couple years ago at our Christmas Eve service, my pastor had us place all of our lit candles into a sandbox. You know where this is going, the sandbox caught fire. I could hardly pull myself together. And there are plenty more where that came from!

3. Contrary to popular belief because of my tall stature, I didn’t play one sport growing up. However, I was asked by both the basketball coach and volleyball coach every year in high school to join the team. I graciously declined. I had more fear of the ball than I cared to admit. Also, I’m just physically challenged.

4. You know how folks like to say they’re having a good hair day vs. a bad hair day? Well, I like to say I’m having a good eyelash day vs. a bad eyelash day. Because of my naturally long eyelashes (I’m not complaining), they have a mind of their own. Some days they are one with the mascara, other days we battle clumpiness.

5. My hair is naturally wavy/curly.

6. I have a 36 inch inseam for my pants. Yes, I am all legs.

7. I was the first of my family born in Texas to a California dad, and a Colorado mom.
I am so proud. Yes, you could say I love Texas.

8. My claim to fame was singing at the Super Bowl with Josh Groban along with some other alumni from Houston Children’s Chorus when it was in Houston, back in 2004. We sang the ever so popular, “You Raise Me Up.” One of my very favorite memories by far. And indeed, a huge privilege.

9. Although I don’t travel near enough, I do love to travel. Italy is one of my favorite places I’ve visited. I’d love to go back! I think Florence was my favorite.

10. To put myself to sleep, or when I am really tired, I rub my feet together unintentionally.
I remind myself of a cricket.

11. Colorado is one of my favorite places to be. (Because of the people and the gorgeous scenery!)

12. I majored in Early Childhood Education when I was in college and graduated a certified teacher in the state of Texas. However, I haven’t taught school a day in my life, unless you label student teaching as such.

13. I was the kid that grew up in church, but didn’t make my faith my own until my Senior year of high school. Praise God for His faithfulness and graciousness towards us.

14. I’m not a collector of many items, but I’ve collected and own a ridiculous amount of scarves. I’m not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed since I live in one of the hottest cities in America.

15. My favorite food? Well, it’s a toss up between Mexican and Chinese. Leaning more towards the Mexican. I’m very hungry right now.

16. This is a new fact, but to help me memorize my scriptures, I’ve been putting my scripture as my wallpaper on my phone home screen. Just an idea for any of you visual learners as well! (See visual below. Grin.)

Your turn! What’s one thing we may not know about you? See, these things are fun. Everyday we get to learn more and more about each other. I love it.

Hmm.. Well there’s a few things that most people don’t know about me outside of my family. I am a doctor (a family doctor in a small town so I do a little of everything) and I have an abundance of knowledge about circumcision- don’t know why but I am utterly fascinated by its history! Also, I possess a great deal of I love Lucy and Star Wars trivia in my brain! This IS fun!

      Lisa says:

Alyssa, I am 26 years old and I Love Lucy has probably been my favorite show since I was at least a young teenager! I don’t run into many I Love Lucy fans! I think I’ve seen ever episode at least twice. It comes on the Hallmark channel on weekday mornings so I watch it before I go into work LOL!

    Jackie Turner says:

I’m a little bit addicted to old (well, 1970s), very cheesy TV shows on DVD. I watch them on the treadmill. In fact, it’s how I get myself onto the treadmill; I’m not allowed to watch unless I’m walking.

    Betty M says:

I played alto sax in our little HS band! I was totally terrible!!! I could not march worth a hoot either. If we had to march and play I could not make that work!!!Needles to say I never made a band that appeared at the Tounament of Roses parade!!!!
Oh BTW! I am a list maker too everyday I have a “to do” list in a note book and one of life’s little pleasures to me each eve is crossing of things I actually did!!!
Thanks for the enlightenment of the little known much loved quirks we all have!!!

I LOVE doing jigsaw puzzles and have never given up on one until I finished it. Then I look at it a moment and then tear it apart and put it back in the box. I write the date I did it and if anyone else helped with it, just for history sake. (This is something I found out my grandpa did when he worked puzzles and it inspired me to do it.)

    Shawna says:

    I obsesively organize…..everything! (list’s are a must)
I eat chocolate while my Dr. says I shouldn’t. Eeeek!

Which app. is your bible app.? I like the pink!

    • 58.1
      Lindsee says:

Hey Shawna! I use the YouVersion Bible app. If you tap on the verse number, it underlines it for you, then you can change the underline to a highlight by clicking on the little arrow at the bottom. This is all very confusing to explain through a computer screen! But I hope that helped a little.

    Laura says:

I just bought my first pair of boots! (We’ve been living in Texas almost three years!) And now I wish I had more scarves and adorable dresses to wear them with 🙂

Laura, I’ve lived in Texas my entire life and I just bought my pair of boots three months ago. I’m a little behind!

    Karen Miller says:

Wow! Luke 1:45…I scrolled down and saw your pic from your phone with the scripture…and boy did I need to see that right now…feeling overwhelmed…writing a script among other things and getting nowhere! Blessed is she…is a promise God made to me many years ago and it is inscribed on my wedding band. How I need to remind myself right now that I am blessed when I believe. Thank you! Great timing.

    Kristen says:

I have to put my right shoe on before my left, or else I walk with a limp that can’t be helped until start over with my shoes. Crazy, I know.

I also read the last chapter in a book before deciding if it’s something I want to read. I figure it saves a lot of time!

    Dee says:

LOVE notes app …….. Just LOST all of them last week – poof ! They were gone. For sure iCloud account is set up now!!! Got to learn how to make scripture verse as wallpaper ?!!??

    • 62.1
      Lindsee says:

Hey Dee! As easy as I can explain through the computer, take a screen shot of your verse on any Bible app you have, then just add it as your home screen on your phone. Hope that helps!

      • Rebecca says:

So do you actually take a picture of your phone screen? I underlined and highlighted in YouVersion, but can’t figure out how to save it as a picture. Help! Because I REALLY LOVE this idea! 🙂

        Rebecca

        • Lindsee says:

I take a screen shot of it, Rebecca. You do this by pressing your home button and your power button down at the same time!

    Stephanie Volkmer says:

Some things you don’t know about me:
-I, too, am a list maker, but I do mine with pen and paper, otherwise I forget it. But in my lists I always have to number them starting at the largest number and then decreasing.
-I have a plethora of coffee mugs. I adore coffee, and am such a regular at Starbucks they know my order.
-I collect anything penguin related, even though I live in the Midwest and we hardly get snow, I love penguins.
-whenever I go past a bookstore I feel it my duty to go in and say hi to all the books, and as a result I never walk out of a bookstore empty handed.
Great post, and great idea for the verse!! 🙂 have a great day!!

I too majored in Child development in college. I did teach preschool for a couple of years then I had children and became a stay at home mom. I have home schooled my children since my oldest was 4. That was 20 years ago. I have to more year left then I will graduate my youngest. I can’t wait, Yet I will be sad. Ok that said the one thing I really wanted to share that you don’t know about me is that music is like a healing balm to my soul. I can not live with out it. Well maybe I could, but I would get rather depressed and grumpy.

  15. 65
    Judy Needham says:

I was a police officer for 12 years.
I was a SWAT Team sniper
    I was a hostage negotiator
I broke my back in 2002 in two places and went from complete independence to complete dependence on God. I was broken but God saw me through. I am not the same woman but I have a deep love for Jesus and a completely different view of life. I would not have it any other way. Mercy Triumphs every time.

    Thank You everyone @ LPM

While my Dad has been gone for 32 years, I really miss being able to talk with him.

    Carrie says:

I’m a white, blonde, used-to-be basketball player who lives in Mexico, is a little tired of Mexican food, doesn’t have a FB page, makes daily lists, and will willingly do a roundoff for coconut dark chocolate. And I eat a bowl of cereal almost every night before bed. Shhh….

  20. 70
    Kathy says:

In an emergency, all of my friends see me as an unshakeable rock of stability. What they don’t know is that on the inside I am really a quivering mass of jelly, waiting for someone more capable to come along so that I can fall apart in another room all by myself.

  21. 71
    Tania says:

I baby-sat once as a teenager and the baby missed the diaper as I changed him and it was an unpleasant experience. I vowed to never have children. I meet my husband who was told he could not have children due to an accident and now we have five! Two daughters have given us the most precious granddaughters, Sophia and Myah (Eli is on the way) whom have taught us a new found love….Grandparents Love Club! GLC is the bomb! I’m so grateful that God is in control!

  22. 72
    Michelle says:

I hate the whole elf on a shelf craze. They are super creepy! A little to much resemblance to clowns! (Shudder!) lol! Thanks for sharing Lindsey! Love you sister!

I LOVE SOUP. I could eat it everyday.

Btw – tell BETH that her new picture is darling. She looks gorgeous.

  24. 74
    Lisa says:

I love to buy cleaning supplies, but I hate to actually use them. (Yeah, just seeing that in print makes me realize how wierd that is!)

And don’t even get me started on office supplies – paper clips, highlighters, sticky notes – I get giddy at the very thought of them!

I think what this means is that there’s a very clean, organized person inside of me, trying to get out. But I’m too busy sewing, taking photographs, and working on DIY projects to pay much attention to her. 🙂

  25. 75

OH, I’m an inappropriate laugher, too! Especially when I’m about to be in trouble for something, like I’m being reprimanded for something that I didn’t do…I’ll start grinning! I have no idea why. I’ve gotten in trouble with employers before. They think I’m guilty when I’m NOT! I have no idea why I do this, excpet nerves. My poor son has the same issue. We’ll be reprimanding him and he’ll start to grin! Poor boy. Maybe we need a support group…

  26. 76
    Rhonda says:

Love the idea about putting scripture to memorize as my phone’s wallpaper!!! I usually have 3 or 4 index cards posted everywhere. Interesting to hear you majored in Early Childhood Education too…..that is my major and I have enjoyed being a preschool teacher of 4-5 year olds. Of course, I teach at our local church. I wouldn’t have it any other way. God has blessed me with such a wonderful ministry! <3

    Gale Boling says:

1, I sleep with two doxies.
    2. Once in a very serious sermon, the minister hit the podium with his hand, the lady next to me, my friend, wasnt paying attention, her knee jerk reaction, caused her spike of her high heel to hit the back of the pew in front of us, it sounded like a shot was fired throughout the church house. I got tickled and could not stop. We sat three rows back from front. I absolutely could not stop…the minister, finally stopped and chuckled too. She scooted down the pew to get away from me! Hahaha
    3. I live alone
    4. I write notes to myself , then forget to look at my notes.
    5. My school burned down when I was in 4th grade. we evacuated quickly, no one was injured. Our personal belongings were destroyed, I had a brand new red car coat as they called then then. Lost to the fire. as an adult, I have always had a coat obcession. Love them, found my closet was full. Realized , this goes back to loosing my red car coat.
    5. lost touch with someone dear to me years ago. Finding through fqmily, only to diiscover they had died.
    6. God changed my heart and life through The Passion of Christ. I have not looked back. I love him so.
    7. Wish I could have written that book….before I got senile!

    Toni Lizana says:

I love the idea about using your phone to memorize scripture! Genius! Definitely using that and I love the scripture you show on your screen!
I have not been involved in scripture memory this year – and I quit before the end of last year. I have a tendency to “quit” when I get overwhelmed – just too many things going on. But I love to stay in touch with Living Proof Ministries and I share bits and pieces of your blog (giving proper credit, of course) to encourage others. I am not OCD (LOL)! My desk can bear witness to that! I love to encourage people so I am on facebook, email, etc. every day looking for things I can pass on.
Such a fun post! Thank you!

  34. 84

    2. God is changing me and my family soooo much right now! Never been in a more vulnerable state! We are anxiously but patiently awaiting our fourth child whom we are adopting from Taiwan, an abortion-Striken nation. Lord Help Us. Stay so Near that we do not feel a lone or get lost in fears!

  35. 85
    Jessica says:

I am a bit OCD myself. Every time before I leave the house to go anywhere, I make sure everything is cleaned up and put away. No one likes to come home to a mess they have to clean up, right? Grin.
And I love the idea of setting your home screen to the scripture I am memorizing. Call me a little tech illiterate; but I have been trying to figure out how to do it for the passes 20minutes and can’t do it? Nothing is fiitting the screen. I’ve tried with youVersion and Biblegateway?? Can you help this siesta!!! 🙂

    • 85.1
      Lindsee says:

Hey Jessica! I did that by taking a screen shot of my phone screen. Is that what you’re trying to do?

      • Jessica says:

I didn’t know how to take a screen shot but was able to figure it out. And, I realized I wasn’t signed up for YouVersion to where I can utilize all the “perks.” Thanks for the help!!

  36. 86
    Jaime says:

I’m a little OCD and the people I work with LOVE to mess with me over this. Everything on my desk has a place!!! They love to come in while I’ve stepped out and move things on my desk (not much just an inch or two on the desk) then they wait for me to walk back in. I sit down at my desk and put everything back in it’s place. They walk away laughing and usually I end up laughing at myself.
I’m a planner!!! This drives my son CRAZY!!! Before we leave the house to go anywhere I have to have a plan of where we are going, why we are going and in what order we are going to take care of everything.

  37. 87

I rub my feet together too! Without even thinking about it. And I’ve noticed that my almost-3-year-old son does the same thing. 🙂

  38. 88
    CyndaP says:

My spice rack is alphabetized (isn’t everyone’s?)

My closet is organized by color. I don’t use wire hangers. Plastic hangers help me organize things – blouses on white or pink hangers, slacks on black, my husband’s shirts on blue hangers and his slacks on navy ones. My suits are on the hangers that they came on when I bought them.

It seems my closet is the only thing that I can keep organized. 🙂

  39. 89

My claim to fame is playing the clarinet in high school band and marching in the 1977 Orange Bowl Parade! My family heard every year during the Orange Bowl game, until a new stadium was built, that I have stood on the orange on the 50-yard line of the Orange Bowl Stadium! I know my family was thrilled a new stadium was built! 🙂
I have to share an iphone ap I was actually gifted by a friend of mine – it’s called “Scripture Typer” and it helps me tremendously with our verse memorization. It is a wonderful tool!
    Have a wonderful day!

I was a cheerleader in high school and college, and it was truly the one activity that I loved more than anything in the world.

Secret (or not so secret) desire of my heart is to go on a mid- or long-term mission trip. I’ve done many short-term trips, but I would love to commit to one area for a longer period of time. Waiting patiently for God to open the door…

I also laugh at the most awkard times…especially when someone trips and falls….I can’t control it…I do try though…it’s God’s way of reminding me to laugh at myself….just kidding….I don’t think God needs to remind me as He has a daily refresher course lined out for the next bizillion or so days!
