A Little Blog FAQ

You can always find a good balance of fun and serious on this blog, but every now and then, you’ll find a little business (or maybe we should label it housekeeping) mixed in, and today is one of those days.

The beauty of SSMT is that we’re all memorizing scripture together and holding each other accountable and we have a ton of new siestas joining us! God alone be praised. However, if you are new to the blog, or joining in SSMT for the first time, I can see how you could get a little overwhelmed or stressed out if you’re unclear how to navigate the blog. My inbox is currently flooded with emails regarding all things blog FAQ.  So in one fell swoop, I’m hoping to help each of us out.

To our veterans, if you see a question I failed to mention, feel free to chime in on the comments. And to our new friends, I hope this post will be both informative and encouraging to you!

How do I join SSMT?

I am so glad you asked! We are so glad you desire to be a part and we invite you to join us! To “sign up” all you need to do is enter the scripture you’re committing to memory on the 1st and 15th of every month on our blog. At the end of the year, that will total 24 verses. You are welcome to enter your first verse on January 1st by clicking here.

Or, you are welcome to hop in on the next SSMT post. They will always be titled “2013 Siesta Scripture Memory Team: Verse ___”

Also, by clicking on this link, you can retrieve every SSMT post so far. You can also find this link on the right hand side column under “Links” labeled, “Siesta Scripture Memory Team 2013”.

How do I leave a comment?

To post a comment, scroll down until you find the post you want to comment on, click on the little brown box to the right hand side that states the number of comments on that post so far, then go to the end of that post (after any other comments that show) to “LEAVE A REPLY”. You will see 4 boxes: Name (required), Mail (email address), Website (NOT REQUIRED), then the final box is where you type in your comment. Click “SUBMIT COMMENT”. When you click “Submit Comment”, you should see a message that says “Comment awaiting moderation.” This means that you did everything right, and now you are just waiting on one of us to approve your comment. No need to worry if your comment doesn’t immediately show up. During SSMT, if you could give us at least 12 – 24 hours to moderate comments, that would be so helpful.

How do I sign up for the SSMT Celebration in January?

Great question! We ARE having a SSMT celebration next January, however, details and registration for that will come towards the end of this year. So until then, all you have to worry about is memorizing and entering your scripture in on the blog.

Can I log my SSMT verse for a friend and me?

Our goal here for SSMT is to just be an encouragement and have a little accountability with our sisters, and a few brave brothers. With that said, if you’re friend has no access to the Internet and cannot login on her own, you are certainly welcome to do that for her. However, please do it under two different logins, not under the same comment. Does that make sense? We wouldn’t want anything to hinder anybody from joining in.

I can’t find my comment, did I do something wrong?

I can’t imagine searching through thousands of comments to find my exact one, however, I totally understand that you would because I’d be the same way. Grin. By far the easiest way to find your verse is to note the time you submitted it.  (Adjust your time to our Central Standard Time.) Just know that once you press “submit comment”, you will see the message saying your comment is awaiting moderation. Rest assured, you’ve done it right! Now you just get to wait on us. That is the message you want to see after you submit!  Also, because I’ve been asked, there is no way to receive a message that your comment has been approved. This is where you’ll have to practice a little bit of faith!

How do I subscribe to get the blog delivered to my email?

If you go the blog homepage, which you are currently on if you’re reading this, look to the right hand side column, and you’ll see a button that says “Receive this feed via email”, click on that and it will take you through the very easy process of getting this blog emailed to you each time there is a new post.

I recently got a new email address. Can you cancel my old email address and have the blog sent to my new one?

Your email is not stored with Living Proof, so if you would like to change the address that your LPM Blog RSS feed comes to, you will need to click “unsubscribe” at the bottom of your RSS feed email, and then re-subscribe with your new email. (See previous question.)

Is replying to the RSS feed email the same as leaving a comment?

I absolutely see what you’re saying here, but unfortunately, it is not. If you get the blog post sent to your email account, you have to personally click on the title of that post so it can take you to the live blog post itself and leave a comment that way. I typically get about 100 replies to RSS feeds in my email inbox, and I have a feeling that might be why some of you are having trouble finding your comment among the thousands. If you replied to an email, your verse was not received. Unfortunately, your comment is most likely floating out somewhere in the cyber world. If you are new to this and you hear this one thing, I think it will make both of our lives a thrill! I know how confusing it can get.

How can I download the SSMT app?

You can click and find the app here for all Apple products.

And click here to download for all Android users.

You can also download them using your phone or by searching “BethMooreLPM”.

What do I need to do to qualify for the SSMT Celebration next January?

To qualify for the celebration next January, Beth has asked us to log in to share our verse on the blog the 1st & 15th of every month, a minimum of 21 out of 24 times throughout the year. You are welcome to go back and post your verses to each week. We are very encouraged by you all!

I think that’s a wrap, folks! Thank you for being patient and gracious with us. We consider it a great privilege to love and serve you all. Seriously. Feel free to leave any question I might have not addressed in the comments. That way if someone has the same question as you have, we can all read it!

Oh, and just for fun, as I was about to publish this post, I decided to share a picture with y’all I snapped on Tuesday before Bible study. I happened to be the only one in the sanctuary for about ten minutes and it felt like the calm before the storm. The blog has felt a little bit like that this week, eh? A little quiet? We do apologize. But know that while it may be quiet, we’re thinking of you guys 24/7.

We love y’all so much.

In 2011, there was a link on the right side that took you to all the SSMT posts, so you didn’t have to search if you were behind in entering a verse or reading Beth’s post for that Scripture entry day. The 2011 link is still there, but there isn’t a link for 2013 – that would be awesome if it could be added!

This is excellent for a reminder, thanks Lindsee.

I know I have personally wanted to reference the FAQ several times and the side bar link is the first place I refer, but it’s not been updated since the SSMT 2011. I think for anyone wanting the SSMT FAQ Info at our finger tips for quick reference, the sidebar link could be updated with the SSMT 2013 FAQ post. Just a suggestion.

Thanks you all at Living Proof for all you do to serve us! God bless you as you bless God 🙂

Betty, I do not receive my LPM Blog posts in my e-mail until almost a day later. I usually miss when they do a live stream because I get the notification a day late. I just know that I need to post on the 1st. and 15th.

      • Betty M says:

Debi! Hmm! I guess we just look ahead of time and it works out fine!!! So much for instant mail!!!!

        • Megan M. says:

          Hi Betty!!!
I’m not sure that this will help or not, but I use Microsoft Outlook for my e-mail accounts…& Outlook keeps RSS feeds separate from e-mail. These days not all sites with blogs have the right settings for this, but LP’s blog works. Instead of coming in to my e-mail it comes into Outlook under my RSS feeds….& I seem to get them when they’re posted. Outlook goes out to search for email & RSS feeds every few minutes, & you can also tell it to send/receive anytime.

I could just be getting lucky, but it seems Outlook works well for this. And, you can set up Outlook with any e-mail service. (I get my gmail acct, our Internet provider email acct, & my work e-mail all sent into Outlook & easily follow a few RSS feeds.).

Hopefully that might help … Or help someone if they have Outlook. (It comes with Microsoft Office, I believe. People often have it & just haven’t set it up—use Google to help if the default settings aren’t working).

If you do this, you will set up the LPBlog RSS feed from within Outlook.

          God bless & Happy Sunday!!!

      Lindsee says:

The RSS feed comes to you through a 3rd party company, Feedburner, and is not within our control. The timing of it actually depends on your internet provider and when their server information is updated. That is why yours might come in at midnight, while a neighbor with a different provider might get theirs hours before or after you. I wish I could make it update faster for you! You might make a calendar reminder for yourself each 1st & 15th. Beth usually has the post up by 7:00am CST. I hope that helps!

    Hey Lindsee!

Just wanted to say that I love, love, love the SSMT app for IPAD! I was late getting started, so this made it so easy to catch up. I just ordered my 2013 SSMT spiral notecards today-do they come with a binder? I can’t wait to get them!

Hey Heather! When you say binder, what do you mean? Are you curious if the notecards come bound? If so, then yes! I hope that helps!

For some reason, when I looked at the picture of the auditorium, I got goose bumps thinking how it will be full of those of us who memorize scripture this year. Can you picture that? To God be the glory!

Also, I’ve clicked the link & searched the app store (on Ipad) for the BethMooreLPM app & it keeps saying there is not one. Do you know why?

An SSMT ap?! What does it allow you to do once it’s downloaded?

    • 6.1
      Heather Jackson says:

      Christy,

It is awesome! It looks like the SSMT Spiral and it has the links to each of the 2013 SSMT blog posts right there in order! Also, you have a little icon in the upper left hand corner that you can click on and it takes you to”My Verses” and a blank “note card” for you to right your memory verses on! It is the coolest thing ever! I believe the link to it is in the January 1st post from Beth. Hope you find it!

I LOVE the app this time around!!! The improvements are great! Thanks so much! I love being able to access my verses any time because I always have my iphone with me. Thanks!!!

    Cindy L says:

I am using the android app and I love having my verse with me on my phone. But I wish I could see the whole thing. My last verse was more than two lines and I have to “open” it to see the whole thing and then save it again. I realize it is not a big deal but it would be really cool if it was all there. Can this be fixed?
Thank you for all that you do!

      Cindy –
I do this silly thing, but the friends I’ve dragged into SSMT (they’re happy: not a kick or a scream in the bunch) think it’s brilliant. I take a picture or make a picture of my verse and use it on my phone’s home and lock screens because I can see the whole thing whenever I turn on my phone and I switch it every 15 days. One I just wrote on a chalkboard and then snapped a pic. It was adorable. AND I use the LPM app because I write my verse like, “Feb 1: Psalm 141:3-4(NIV) – Set a guard…” The idea is that only that little bit shows on my screen and I test myself to see if I know the whole thing before I open it up to check. With this combo system on my phone and my spiral in my purse, I’m able to study ANY time! It rocks.

      • Tracey Knight says:

jennifer, good call!!! i’d taken a pic of my verse on my spiral to tweet (hoping to encourage) but didn’t think to make it my lockscreen! such a good idea – thanks!

I just wanted to say how proud I am of me for memorizing my first 3 verses of the year! Thank you, LPM, for this ministry. Just this morning I was worried about our newly licensed son driving himself to school for the very first time. I quietly said my verses and felt uplifted!

    Ally says:

Who knew there was an app? I am so excited! I have this crazy vestibular disorder which affects my short term memory so an app makes this so much better. Yay! Downloading!!

  11. 11
    Sue says:

I just downloaded the Apple app. In 2011, I could record my verse on my device. If I looked at the 2013 app correctly, Beth’s blog entry is there with a place to post my verse to the blog. I like that feature, but can I still use the app like my own electronic spiral?
    Thanks so much!

    • 11.1
      Lindsee says:

Yes ma’am! If you’re looking where all the posts are listed, up in the left hand corner of the app there looks like what seems to be a little paintbrush icon. Click on that and it will take you to a new page labeled “My Verses”. In the right hand corner, click the plus sign and you’re good to go. Hope that helps!

I get the email about SSMT after 10pm every time, including this post, and see it the next day because I go to sleep early and wakeup early. If I post my scripture the following day, is that OK? Every time I get an email from living proof now, I have a moment of panic that I missed the scripture post and that is not a good way to start the day. Thanks!

      Lindsee says:

I was thinking that in one of the first posts talking about SSMT 2013 here on the blog, Beth posted the date for the celebration. I’m almost sure she did. Like in November or something like that. Of course, I didn’t write it down, but sure need to.

I have several friends who want to still join this scripture memory team (I locally have a team of 6 ladies already)! I was a siesta in 2011, but was doing it alone & came to TX by myself for the celebration, but met so many amazing Siestas while in TX. Im so excited to have some Ladies to memorize with in our small group. We can practice together & share All we are learning!
Can you remind us How many verses are required to be posted on time & how many memorized/recited to attend the Jan 2014 Siesta celebration?
Thanks for All the hard work you at LPM do. This ministry is such a Huge to us in VA!

    Thanks for this useful post!
I know you guys are used to seeing that beautiful sanctuary and have SO many places you could build monuments to His faithfulness right in that room. Was blown away to be able to attend in Jan 2012 and I can see the two seats that I sat in where the Spirit came afresh. Like spiritual markers, my siestas. To God be the glory! Anyway, praying more and more blessings on all who enter there!!!

One thing I would like to see when something is written on the blog, is the author put their name.

I find it interesting to see who is sharing their wisdom.
