Siesta Summer Bible Study III

Siesta Summer BIble Study III Launch

Second Gathering

Third Gathering

Final Gathering

Video greeting from Kelly Minter

_______________

I can’t believe the blog has been around long enough for us to be having our third annual Siesta Summer Bible Study! Wow! We had an amazing time studying Kelly Minter’s No Other Gods in 2008 and Jennifer Rothschild’s Me Myself and Lies in 2009.

It’s finally time to announce the book that we’ll be going through together in the summer of 2010 – Kelly Minter’s Ruth: Loss, Love & Legacy! We’re thrilled that Kelly has written another study and can’t wait to dive into it with all the Siestas.

Let me fill you in on some details.

Who: As before, we want you to assemble a group of in-real-life friends, co-workers, family members, acquaintances, church family, Siestas in your town, neighbors, or whatever mix of ladies God puts on your heart.

What: Spend the summer together in the Word! Our workbook (also called a “member book”) is a 6-week Bible study on the Book of Ruth. We will meet every other week to discuss two weeks of our homework.

When: We are partial to Tuesday since that’s our normal night for Bible study at LPM. So we will launch our SSBS3 on Tuesday, June 22, and “meet” every other Tuesday until August 3. Yes, you can meet another day of the week if necessary but you’ll see when the time comes that it’s the most fun when we all do it on the same day.

I’ll give you the basic schedule now so you’ll know what to expect but Beth willย  have much more to say about it closer to the time of our launch. If we don’t answer your questions now, save them and see if they get answered within the next several weeks.

Tuesday, June 22, 2010 (1st Mini-Session/LAUNCH/Group instructions)

(DO WEEKS ONE AND TWO OF HOMEWORK ON YOUR OWN.)

Tuesday, July 6, 2010 (2nd Mini-Session/Group Instructions)

(DO WEEKS THREE AND FOUR OF HOMEWORK ON YOUR OWN.)

Tuesday, July 20, 2010 (3rd Mini-Session/Group Instructions)

(DO WEEKS FIVE AND SIX OF HOMEWORK ON YOUR OWN.)

Tuesday, August 3, 2010 (4th Mini-Session/Conclusion)

Where: Wherever you are most comfortable. Kelly’s workbooks are part of the Living Room Series. Her core group of ladies meets in her living room and they always share a meal together. In fact, you’ll find recipes in the workbook if you’d like to use them. We think that’s a really fun part of the experience. The first summer my group met in a different house each week and last summer we met in the same house each week. We’ve had some siesta groups meet in restaurants and coffee shops. Do whatever works for you and your ladies.

Why: A summer lived in Bible study is one lived in victory!

How:

1. Get your workbooks. LifeWay will have plenty of them for us, but you won’t want to wait until the last minute. You can find them online on LifeWay’s web site and on Kelly Minter’s web site.

2. Assemble your small group. You are more than welcome to participate solo or with an online discussion group, but for the sake of richest fellowship and best accountability, try as hard as you can to enlist three or four other women to meet with you every other Tuesday. Let the ladies know that the gatherings will be low on stress and high on much needed fellowship and rich discussion. Keep the emphasis on a relaxed and refreshing atmosphere where you can develop some wonderful relationships in Christ.

3. Sign up on the blog on our official Launch Day- Tuesday, June 22. We’ll ask you a few fun questions about your group.

4. Beth will facilitate the study by posting 15-minute videos on the mornings our meeting days. They will have instructions for discussion questions and activities that will be based on the previous two weeks of study. The videos will be like the ones you’re used to seeing on this blog – very casual and homemade! The idea is to incorporate the videos into the beginning of your meeting times if possible. In case the video aspect of the study doesn’t work for you, you will also find the discussion questions typed out on the blog.

5. After your gathering, you’ll check back in by telling us something about your meeting via a comment on that same post. Don’t worry if your group can’t meet on Tuesdays. You’ll still be able to find the post and comment throughout the week.

What if:

-I want to use the discussion questions in the back of the workbook instead of the ones on Beth’s videos. Go for it!
-I really, really want to do the study but it’s not in the budget. Email me.
I’ve already committed to doing another Bible study this summer? That’s great! Stick with it.
-I don’t want to participate but still want to be a part of the blog. We totally understand and want to see you around Siestaville this summer. Know that the Bible Study will only take up one post every other week.

We look forward to getting started next month!
Love,
Amanda

Wow – congratulations to Melissa! What an incredible accomplishment. On a much smaller scale, my baby girl graduates from kindergarten early next month. She is our little sunshine, and we are so proud of how far she has come this year. I’ll be the mommy in the front row bawling her eyes out as the little ones sing “First Grade, First Grade!”

I am super excited.. this will be the first summer in the 3 years you have done summer siesta study to be in america again so I can really be apart.. although I did love when Beth quoted me on one of the summer siesta Bible study videos on a comment I had left about not being able to shower for weeks on end in nepal and having to walk in monsoon rains all the time.. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have already been studying ruth and me and my monday breakfast bunch gals (my mom, sis and great friend) were already planning on doing this this summer! ๐Ÿ™‚ Glory

Yippee!! I have been wanting to do this study. I go out of town for the summer to visit my family and partner up with a good friend to do the Siesta summer Bible studies. We meet at her house or at the Panera Bread every week:)I hope Beth gives us some fun advice like she has done in the past, like about how to deal with your hair in the humidity or what new style of sandals we can get at Payless.
Thanks for being so organized Amanda-impressive with 2 little ones.

I got impatient and couldn’t wait any longer so we’re doing Loving Well. Our summer starts earlier than the rest of the nation. I’ve already listened to the first two DVDs and have cried and laughed and can’t wait to share this. It is being held in my home every other week with a huge diversity of gals, I just sent a mass email out and we have 20 signed up, but then my church asked me to also facilitate at our church this summer, so we’ll see Sunday how many sign up. I feel this is God’s plan for us in northern Phoenix. Thank you so much for your true to life ministry. I’m going through a family crisis and the timing couldn’t be more perfect. Sorry though I won’t be a part of the blog summer study.

I did Esther – it’t tough beng a woman. How does this compare? Is there new information or would it be good to focus on a study on an area/book I have not studied.

Wonderful! My teenaged son has a couple of female friends who are desperately in need of some guidance from an older woman. He has wanted me to get involved with one of them in particular. I think I’ll see if we can get a couple of girls and another mom-type or two.

I don’t know why but I am floored with our God! For several days now I have been hearing from God that He wants me to study the book of Ruth!!! I was just thinking today – I wonder if there is a good Ruth study guide out there. I am getting ready to hit the sack for the night and decided to check email and the blog. Wow! He never ceases to amaze me. I am so blessed. Needless to say I will be joining this study but I also want to see if some of my neighborhood ladies will join me in my living room.

Thanks for doing this. And thank you Father for always amazing me!

Count me in for the BS. Don’t know if there will be a local group doing it, but I am presuming I can join in here without a ‘physical’ group. My church is doing a BS. We do Beth’s studies through the school year and this year decided to extend it to the summer. I do not know what has been chosen, but I did send this link to my BS director. I’m excited about it.

Sooooooooooooo excited!!! My Tuesday night Rowdy Girls from New Hope Baptist were just discussing what we will do for the summer since we will be finishing Stepping Up on June 1st. A study of Ruth, facilitated by our Siesta Mama sounds like just the ticket!

Okay, this study is INCREDIBLE. I heard Kelly speak on Ruth at a retreat in March, and I HAD to have the book. I’ve been doing it as part of my morning quiet time and LOVING IT. She’s brilliant and funny and brings out the most amazing truths from a story I thought I knew inside and out. God is speaking straight to my heart through her words. SO AWESOME.

    Sarah M. says:

Totally bought this Bible Study at LPL in Tampa (as well as No Other Gods). This leaves me just enough time to finish up No Other Gods and then jump on board with Ruth (though I’ll likely miss the first video until the week after because I’m VBS director…and VBS is that week)!! WooHoo!

What a blessing! I have been chatting with a group of gals about starting the Esther Study this fall and been praying about a study to do this summer. Thank you! I can’t wait to tell our little group.
I was supposed to head to Grand Rapids tomorrow to see Miss Beth in person for the first time. I was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday and I don’t think they are going to discharge me until Saturday. I am trusting the Good Lord that I am in the right place with surgeons standing by if needed. I ordered the Esther DVDs and they are to arrive today. My dear husband has instructions to bring them and our laptop as soon as they are delivered so I can watch them on Friday night & pretend that I am in Grand Rapids. I know that you are going to touch so many hearts. I’ll be praying for you and your fantastic worship team. I’ll have to add Travis Cottrell’s cd to my husband’s list of things to bring me. I’ll play them before I start the DVD ๐Ÿ™‚ blessings to you, your family and ministry
    In Him,
    Suzanne

I saw this at the Lifeway store and thought about doing it on my own. I’m so excited it will be done here. I’m going to go solo but if there is anyone in the Kaufman/Van Zandt area (Texas), I would love the opportunity to do it with a group.

  32. 82

Any Siestas from Nashville interested in forming a group? I’m near Hermitage in Old Hickory.

    Donna B. says:

Sounds wonderful! At some point and time this summer, our family will be moving “north” to reunite with my husband who has already relocated, for his “j-o-b”. This will be a nice constant for me as we are going through lots of changes this summer. Not sure about forming a “live” face-to-face group under the circumstances though.
Thank you for putting this together…

Count me in too! I was just thinking over the last few days that since our Church doesn’t have Women’s Bible Study during the summer that I needed to find a study to do on my own. So very much looking forward to it! I am even contemplating asking a few ladies at my office if they would like to join me?

This very morning I was contemplating my favorite Bible characters – I thought of Esther, since I know such much more about her after doing Beth’s Esther study. And I thought of Ruth, because I really like her story. My next thought was, “I wonder if Beth will do a study on Ruth?” Next best thing – SSBS! and Kelly Minter. Awesome!

I have been wondering about what the study would be! Sounds awesome!!

I love ya, the time has flown.

    Kelli says:

I am so excited about this! I offered my Sunday School class the opportunity to pick this summer’s study from several books, one of which was the Ruth book. I was hoping they’d pick it but they didn’t. And now this has come along! I’ve asked a friend who isn’t in my Sunday School class to do it with me this summer. Yippee!!

    Jennifer says:

I would love to do this study but don’t know if I can work it in. My daughter is having two surgeries with hospitalizations in June, and one is on the first day of the study, so I wouldn’t even be able to post the first day!

    Andrea Porter says:

I won’t be able to do the group Bible study because my family is moving this summer back to where me and my husband grew up, Pennsylvania. He will be offically retired from the Air Force on June 25th. Needless to say I will be sans blogging for awhile, but I think I might just pick this one up and do it anyway. I will need our LORD for absolute sure to get through the ending of this chapter of my life and on to a new beginning.

See You on the flip side!
    Blessings,

    Andrea – Montana
