Siesta Scholarship Fund

Hey, Siestas! I have something very exciting to share with you! Let me give you a little background so you’ll get the full picture. Like most of you, I was deeply burdened by the financial needs our sisters shared on the blog several weeks ago. My LPM staff of mighty prayer warriors and I divided up every one of those needs and prayed for them specifically. I also deliberated over and over before God about what else I could do. I can’t tell you how much I wanted to just start writing checks. Living Proof Ministries does not have the kind of non-profit that can give cash to individuals, so my frustration mounted. That’s when the Lord spoke such a clear word to me in my heart. It went something like this:

“Stick with what I’ve called you to do at the ministry. You can’t give away money but you can give away many other material things to people and churches that could really use them.” God then began to lay out a strategic plan to set up a scholarship fund through our blog community to donate materials (books, CD’s, DVD’s, and event tickets) to those whom God directs. LPM has always actively donated, but setting up a fund like this would greatly enhance what we’re able to give and also add a fabulous dimension to our community.

I immediately went to Linda, our LPM accountant, told her the vision as I understood it from God and asked her if it would work. She gave it a thumbs-up and began setting up the system and, as of right now, it is up and running. Here’s how it will work: We will now have a way for any of you Siestas who are not as financially strapped to give any amount of money the Lord directs to what will now be called “The Siesta Scholarship Fund.” Girlfriend, it can be $5 and we’d be thrilled! Your Siesta Mama is going to put up or shut up, so I want you to know that I brought my checkbook from home and, with great joy, am making the very first ever donation, $1,000, to our new scholarship fund. In fact, let me stop right now and write the check.

OK, it’s written. If you also want to write a check (for any amount, of course), you’ll make it out to Living Proof Ministries just like I did, but you absolutely must designate “Siesta Scholarship Fund” in the memo so they’ll know where to put it.

Mail it to:
Living Proof Ministries
12131 Malcomson Road
Houston, Texas 77070

You can also make a donation to the fund online by using this link below. When given the option in the online form, please designate it “In honor of The Siesta Scholarship Fund.”

I give you my word that these donations (whether by check or online by charge) will only be used for the expressed purpose of giving away materials. I also want you to know that we will always tell the recipients that they have received them as a gift from the LPM Siesta Blog Community.

With these donations, Living Proof will then begin appropriating materials for priority needs that hit the ministry. This is where I really need your understanding. This scholarship fund would not just be by Siestas for Siestas. It would be by Siestas for anyone at the discretion of our ministry based on the needs that we encounter. I fear that if we limited our donations only to Siestas, it could open the door to all manner of challenges (like how we’d choose between one and another) and, worse yet, it could skew our pure-hearted motives and purposes here on the blog. The purpose of our fellowship here needs to remain what it has been from the start: encouragement to walk faithfully and authentically with our Lord Jesus Christ. We have requests for materials and tickets constantly from people in need and, if you’d be willing to trust our discretion, I promise you we will seek the Lord’s direction. We will also make available a report of our ingoing and outgoing donations periodically so you can see for yourself how the money is being handled.

This is a great time for me to tell you that we work very hard at Living Proof Ministries to maintain the utmost financial accountability and, it you glance at our home page, you’ll see our “ECFA Member” seal (Evangelical Council of Financial Accountability). If you give that website a glance, you’ll know that we have to maintain the utmost standards (including an annual audit) to keep that coveted seal.

OK, here’s what I want to do today as a way to launch a spirit of giving in our blog community. In lieu of comments, if you know of a mission church or a small or struggling church that could really use a set of Bible study DVD’s, please post their name and mailing address as your response to this post. (Continental USA addresses please to keep shipping costs from becoming astronomical.) 48 hours after I run this post, we will do a drawing to give away 5 full DVD sets. These will be gifts from LPM and the cost will not be subtracted from our Siesta Scholarship Fund. We’ll then post the 5 winners and send the sets on their way in your honor. I will have a cute card prepared for all materials that go out in your honor and from the scholarships you make possible. I am so excited about this!

Now, listen here. We expect to have this blog and this scholarship fund for years to come SO if you can’t give a single dollar toward it right now, don’t you feel the least bit guilty. I don’t want a single person feeling under compulsion. God wants us to give cheerfully. Even with outright hilarity! So do not give a dime you are not free and thrilled to give. This is the time for those of us not suffering financially to take up the slack for those of us who are. We love all of you so much. Never feel condemned or pressured here.

I can’t wait to share an update with you! I’ll give it about a week and let you know what’s been given so far.

Lord, do Your thing! Edify Your Church and glorify Your great Name!

I missed posting my church the first time (I just joined the blog) so would like to add my church to the list of DVDs of Esther in case another church wants to donate theirs. It’s New Beginnings Baptist Church, 1004 Corporate Lane, Unit B, Export, PA 15632. We women just love Beth’s Bible studies, but we haven’t been able to afford to buy many of them. We’re looking forward to doing the Esther one if we can get our hands on it.

    Thanks and God bless!

I think this is a very worthy cause and when I get the money to donate, then I will. I wouls like to nominate New Community Christian Church, in Salina, Kansas. This is the first blog I’ve ever done so be gentle with me, if I make a mistake, forgive me. Anyway, my BFF and the leader of our Tuesday night womens Bible Study really wants to lead Breaking Free. She went through it, it changed her life, and she is being lead to walk us through this Bible Study also.

    Cat Lady 2 says:

Okay, I’m back again! I forgot to mention that I know the women of our church would appreciate any bible studies that would be awarded. The study on Ester sounds really good because on another group we have at our church we talk about the different women of the Bible. Another thing that I’d like to mention is that my friend Shirley will buy the books and that studies with her own money and if someone doesn’t have the money to pay her back, she still gives them a book, welcomes them to the group and NEVER makes anyone feel any different then anyone else.

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to bless so many churches and siestas.

I am hoping this is the correct place to post this request.

I am part of a group of eight women that are currently doing the Esther study…we have only two weeks left (heavy sigh) we have so loved it and can’t believe each week how it impacts each of us individually and corporately.

There are three women that could really use assistance in attending the Living Proof Live event in Portland…our hometown!

We love our group as we are in our 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s…isn’t that cool.

The one in her 30’s works for her church and her husband had a work related injury and has been out of work for over a year and has just recently found work.

The one in her 40’s has just returned back to work, has one in college and 3 other children and is helping to raise her 2 year old granddaughter.

The one in her 70’s is such an example of perseverance under great trials, the loss of a child and another child’s multiple heart attacks and struggles of maintaining their own business.

It would be such a blessing to allow these women to attend this event in April.

    Thank you!

Beth, This is an awesome idea, and I will definitely be contributing.

We are a small farming community and we have been really affected by the economy lately. Many folks have been laid off, a lot of small and large businesses have had to close.
I teach womens studies and are working to expand a womens ministry in my church and community. I would very much like to teach the study to help buoy up our women and in turn the families in our church and community to keep us uplifted and encouraged through this difficult time.

Bless you Beth for your ministry and allowing God to use you in such a profound way. You have truly been an inspiration to me every since I was introduced to you years ago. Every since God has called me to women ministry, I have looked at you as a long distance mentor, along with many others that I follow their ministry. I recently went to the ministers spouse retreat in Nashville and enjoyed your teaching and speaking then.
Thanks again for all you do. God bless you!

Beth, I went to see a Sunday School member who had a little ttouble with the law and ended up in Poliski State Prision in Hawkingsvill GA yesterday. While there she told me that all the girls in her cell block had enjoyed the Beth Moore stuff I had sent to her. I had just copied and pasted your lessons on TV that are on the web and sent them to her. The Wednesdays with Beth stuff. I was wondering if I could nominate Lillian Michele Flowers to receive the Ester study or the New Breaking Free or whatever. They would be happy with an “old” study. You would know better than me which one to send I am sure! Just a thought. My friend graduated from the “Faith” dorm yesterday and now will go into what they call the General Public of the prision and she has a chance to get into the “Honor” dorm. She asked me to get folks to pray that with her. I told her I would and that what ever God chooses to bloom where she is planted. Pray also for her saftey and for the saftey of the other 19 women who grauated with her. Thanks, Vicki

I think I would like to do either Believing God or Jesus The One and Only. We may have 30 members who attend all the time but we seem to be drawing in more of our street families. We really need help doing a Bible Study as there isn’t alot of money for extras at this time . Please consider us.

    Beth,

I would like to nominate Woman to Woman Pregnancy Resource Center in Denton, Tx. I am the receptionist there and one of the big struggles we have is that we don’t have the resources to purchase some of the supplies we need to serve our clients. We are a crisis pregnancy center, and we offer mentoring and Bible studies to our clients, but a lot of the women who volunteer feel overwhelmed and intimidated to begin to lead a Bible study with a client. I truly believe that if we had a couple of your studies (Breaking Free, perhaps) to use with our clients, our volunteers would feel more equipped and less pressured to be “educated Bible teachers” with our clients. Please consider putting the center in your scholarship fund. Their mailing address is PO Box 610, Denton TX 76202. The phone number is (940) 383-4494. Thanks so much,

Thank you for this site. It is a blessing both ways. We have a little “siesta” group that meets once a week in rural Utah. We just completed our third Beth Moore study with Daniel (fully anointed) and the “die hards” continue to meet. Last week we took names of women who could “consider” seeing Beth in Larime, WY in May (just to brain storm). Some of the women had seen Beth in Utah, years ago, and are still blessed. Cost for Larime would include travel, for seven hours, motel and the conference. Burdening for a few. So… If anyone has extra tickets they could donate I’m sure that more Utah “siestas” would be able to make the trip… We are so excited and blessed by the way Beth teaches. Just love her!!! Our church is Ephraim Church of the Bible. http://www.ephraimbible.org or you can e-mail me at [email protected] if you can help. Thanks gals. God is doing big things in Utah! See you in Larime.

MamaBeth, I thought of this post the other day when someone commented that they couldn't afford the new book and you told them to call the office.

When I re-read this post, I saw that it said you divided up the needs and specifically prayed for each one. I appreciate that. I think mine was in there.

Finances have been on my mind recently because I'm looking at tax stuff and my income from last year. I live alone and have now been unemployed for a year and a half. When I look at these low numbers I am amazed that God made it enough to get by on. Yes, I'm on my austerity budget, but all I can think of is 1Kings17:16 where the jug didn't run dry.

I got a bit anxious this week because of some big expenses – my dog had some medical problems, my car needs new brakes, and my seminary tuition is due. So this is a good time for a reminder that God has and will continue to provide.

So thanks for setting up the SSF, for praying for us, and for caring about us.
