Here You Are!

*Updated to add Maryland. (So sorry, Maryland! I don’t know how that happened. I cut and pasted the names of all 50 states and only removed Delaware! We had Maryland a number of times! Wouldn’t have overlooked you for the world! – Beth) And it looks like we have a brand new Siesta from Delaware joining us! Welcome, Jill/Crew of 5 For Jesus! – Amanda. ALL FIFTY STATES! YAHOO-JAH! To God be some mighty BIG GLORY!

Well, Siestas, you did it. You left Amanda and me slack-jawed! We’d hoped for a diverse group…but never in our wildest dreams would we have imagined! In the terrific words of Luke 24:22 (ever so slightly out of context), “…our women amazed us”! I feel so many things but at the top of the list, I feel wonder. Wonder toward a God who perfectly timed an information age in the latter days of His Kingdom calendar where the testimony of His Son could be transferred and shared in seconds by people so diverse and distant, their paths wouldn’t cross in a lifetime. We are one tiny blip on the pinhead of the World Wide Web. Imagine what really might be happening out there in the Name of Christ! So many dark and deadly contacts happen on line but if we only knew what God Himself was bringing together, we’d fall to our faces with praise. I am simply astonished.

SO, with ecstatic joy, I present to you tastes of Siestaville! (Drum roll please…)

First, here’s where you live:
Alabama
Alaska
Arizona
Arkansas
California

Vermont (I kept saying out loud, “Come on, Vermont! I know you can do it! Sign in!” You could have heard me shout all the way to your great State when I finally saw you!)
Virginia
Washington (The numbers of you totally blew my mind! Way to show up, Northwest! We’re so honored your aboard!)
West Virginia
Wisconsin
Wyoming

Can you believe your eyes??? We came within an inch of having Siestas in every single State of the US. Is there any chance Delaware answered the roll call but I missed your darling self? Let us know!

And, how about outside the US? I’ve got to begin with a HUGE SHOUT-OUT to our Siestas in Canada! I could not believe how many of you make up our blog town! And considering all our Southern figures of speech at LPM, way to persevere! We are the better for you, Canadian Siestas! You are treasured here. Keep your comments coming.

And outside the US and Canada, let’s hear it for Siestas who live in…
Amsterdam, The Netherlands (Several!)
(One wrote in to tell us that, yes, she really is a Dutch Siesta who has to work extra hard for unity amid that MUCH diversity! I loved it.)
Bosnia
Brazil
Central Asia
China
Germany
Ireland
Italy
Japan
Malaysia
Mexico
Mozambique
New Zealand
Philippines
South Africa
Taiwan
United Kingdom
(Some are missionaries or serve in the military while some are actual citizens of that nation.)

We are honored to have the spiritual feeling of being right next door to one another in real time through faith, through prayer, and the love of Scripture. Thanks go to so many who persevere many regional and cultural differences to stay connected!

Now, are you ready for where you go to church? Hold on to your chairs. This may have stunned me more than our locations. Joyfully, we had numbers of Siestas representing most of them:
Anglican
Assembly of God
Apostle’s Churches
African Methodist Episcopal
Baptist (Freewill, Southern, Independent, Missionary. You name it. I’m not saying a word. I’m just grinning. Anyway, it’s fair to make fun of your own self. I told AJ that my eyes fell on one called “Angier Baptist Church” and I thought it said, “Angrier Baptist Church.” I was taken aback. So glad my contact had just slipped a tad on my eyeball.)

Beit Yeshua Messianic
Many independent Bible churches
Calvary Chapel
Catholic
Many independent community churches – Charismatic and Non-charismatic alike
Church of God
Covenant Church
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
Church of Christ
Emergent
Emergent-ish (Made me smile)
Episcopal
Evangelical Free
FCCM (Fellowship of Connected Churches and Ministries)
Foursquare
Friends Church (Quaker)
House Churches
LDS
Lutheran
Mennonite and Evangelical Mennonite (So many! What a joy!)
Messianic Jewish
Methodist
Nazarene
Presbyterian (PCA, EPC, etc.)
Missionary Alliance
Pentecostal Holiness
Reformed
Seventh-day Adventist
The Salvation Army
Vineyard
Willowcreek Association Churches
Wesleyan

(I tried so hard to fasten my eyes to each entry and include every single denomination. If I overlooked one, it was truly an accident.)

Now, for a few special accolades:

Three of my favorite church names:
2nd Runner up: Calvary Chapel Pearl Harbor (Is that cool or what??)

1st Runner up: Raccoon Creek Baptist Church, Georgia (Me and Beanie could both go there! She loves dinner on the grounds after service!)

Grand Prize: Bar-None Cowboy Church (in Texas, of course) “Nluvwhim,” please contact the LPM office with your address and request your prize. Yes, I’m serious.

Here’s a titanic WAY TO GO on all those Scriptures and Scriptural concepts! WOW! According to one of our Siestas, Proverbs 3:5-6 was the one most often repeated.
My favorite unfamiliar one:

Psalm 45:1 from “The Message”: “My heart bursts its banks, spilling beauty and goodness. I pour it out in a poem to the king, shaping the river into words.” Gorgeous!

Gutsiest entry: “Worshipboy Tom,” a proud husband of a siesta! You are a real man indeed! 2000+ Siestas take off our sombreros to you! And then we’re putting them right back on because we have hat-hair. And we hate hat-hair.

Most impressive entry: “Kingschild,” mother to over 60 foster children. In unison, 2000+ Siestas and I say of our Siesta-hood, “We’re not worthy!”

A few private messages from me to a couple of you: Angela, thank you for your courage. You are welcome here! Firecracker, I am honored to be your servant. Log on any time.

TO ALL OF YOU: AMANDA, MELISSA, THE LPM MINISTRY STAFF AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE HUMBLED TO SERVE YOU OR MORE AWED BY GOD’S GRACE TO US THROUGH YOU. THANK YOU A THOUSAND TIMES OVER FOR ANSWERING THIS ROLL CALL AND FOR BEING PART OF A COMMUNITY THAT HAS LITERALLY BECOME ONE OF MY FAVORITE AVENUES OF MINISTRY EVER. (Since I gave up my aerobics class, as a matter of fact. Grin.) ALL OF YOU ARE JOYFULLY WELCOME HERE!

May the Name of Jesus wave like a banner over this community and His lavish love be our calling card.

With a whole new appreciation,
Beth

Since we are becoming such a close-knit group of ladies through this blog, I’d like to ask you all to please pray for (and reach out to, if you’re nearby in Texas) my cousin Kendel Gilchrest. She’s one of the women’s residence hall directors (or has some similar title) at Baylor University in Waco, and her husband attends seminary there. I know a girl would certainly want her mama at a time like this, but her parents live in Kentucky…so, please pray–this is the e-mail I got today…

    Dear Friends & Family,

I wanted to email everyone to ask for your prayers over the next few weeks. At my 7 & 8 month check up, my little boy was in great position for his upcoming delivery – head first. For some reason, however, when I went to see Dr. Rister last week for my 36-week check up, Boo (that is what we call him since his name is a surprise) had turned and was in the transverse position lying sidewise. Dr. Rister was not too concerned and simply said that hopefully he would switch head down over the course of the week.

Well, I had my 37 week appointment today, only to find out that instead of moving head down, he is head up now – or breeched. Dr. Rister is going to give me one more week til my next appointment on MLK Day. We are praying that Boo turns on his own during that time. However, if he does not, I will be admitted to the hospital at the end of next week for Dr. Rister to attempt an external cephalic version, which basically is a procedure where the doctor would try to manipulate the baby on the outside of my uterus, forcing the baby to turn head down. This process supposedly is very painful, and there is risk that the baby could go into distress or my water would break, and I would have to have an emergency C-section. (This is the last thing I want; however, I am excited to think that my baby could be here as soon as next Friday?!?!?)

On top of all this, Eric and I were at the doctor just this past Friday only to find out that he, too, needs to have surgery sometime this spring. The doctors have discovered that Eric has a bone growth in his right frontal sinus called an osteoma. It is just a little bit smaller than the size of a ping pong ball. The doctors need to remove it so that it does not grow larger and start putting pressure on his brain. There are no surgeons here in Waco who can perform the surgery so Eric will be meeting with doctors in Dallas for consultation, etc. We do not yet know when his surgery will be.

With all this said, I was really hoping that I would not need to have a C-section so that I could be strong enough to take care of my new baby and my husband! Since we have no family in the area, I confess I am feeling a little overwhelmed.

If all of you could pray now that the baby will turn on his own or that the external cephalic version will be successful, I would be ever grateful! Please also pray for the doctors to have wisdom about how to proceed with Eric’s operation. We will keep you posted! Thank you for support!

    Blessings,

    Kendel, Eric, and Little Boo

By the Grace of God alone! Amazing how this blog has a life of its own with thousands (don’t you love that number?) of siestas. I love reading my siestas’ entries so much and look forward to seeing if Beth or Amanda has entered a new message to us. Thank you all for sharing yourselves and your faith with so many of us out there in cyberspace. God bless, Beth to you, Amanda, and the LPM Staff for the mammoth collaboration of all of these siestas who answered the roll call. Glory to God! It is mind-blowing! Be blessed, dear one!

Wow! I am completely blown away by all of this. This has really inspired me to make more of an effort to post things and get to know some of you siestas! I have been reading this blog since about last April, but I never felt much of a need to post b/c I thought it would’nt matter much. Now that I realize it does, I wanted to start off by saying this…
Beth Moore is the first person that I have seen that lives this thing out like I think Christ meant for us to. I guess beforehand I really had never known anyone who really lives in the Spirit like her (or is real and humble enough to say she’s not perfect) and I just kinda bought into the whole “let’s go to church and look like we’ve got this thing together so we can be christians and be a good witness to the lost folks.” (does that make any sense? I guess I got carried away about how I used to think). Anyway, God has used you, Beth, so much in my life as an example. I pray to love God and His word like you, and to be humble like you (that’s my fave thing about you) b/c I don’t know anyone else who is as passionate about Him as much as you…and I want it! I mean, its not like I think you’re perfect, cause I have learned that nobody is, but I love you b/c you are out there “doing the thing” and pointing to Him instead of yourself.
I guess I am already “wearing my welcome out” with this lenghy comment so I will go. Love yall!!!

He has flung us to far corners of the world, yet we find our hearts knitted together through this blog.

I am overcome with the ripple effects we have on one another. For each woman who responded – she is attached to a circle of family, friends, and on-the-ground girlfriends that she has a voice with. Oh, the things that God is using to encourage and build up his Bride!!!

I cherish this place – Siestahood!!

I agree with all the ladies that It’s so exciting to think that we’ll all be together one day! It makes me think of that part in Get Out of that Pit where the relief crew survivor heard two melodies, different in each ear. All the generations and groups will be together to worship God. It also makes me think of that new battle of the choirs show, because I can’t wait until God makes my voice sound like that!

Some friends of mine just got back from Isreal. I was talking to them about all the great sites they went to and telling them what I enjoyed best. They asked when did I go to Isreal. Well, it was March of 2000 with Beth and 800 of my closest friends. Has it really been almost 8 years? They asked if she recorded any of her studies over there. And I answered of course, “Jesus, the One and Only”. Then they wanted to know if I was in the audience. I told them yes, but I never found myself in any of the clips. Oh! to be dancing in the streets of Jerusalem now!

What a wonderful blessing this blog is. It is so great to read everyone’s comments and get a boost of encouragement. I just started Beth’study Stepping Up.. God has already shown himself to me in a huge way. This may sound terrible, but I have never prayed flat out on the floor before. I had no idea what I was missing.. WOW WOW WOW… Of course my dog thought I was nuts, I think he thought I was dead. While I was praying God placed some things on my heart. Some things were made very clear to me, thing that I have been stuggling with…His presence was so strong with my forehead on the floor… My life has been crazy in the last several months. I know this study is going to help me to get up the STEPS! Thank you so much for your Amazing love for Christ. And thank you for being such an inspirtation to so many women. Heaven is going to be great….You are a blessing to us all…

Beth-I’m so glad to hear you are doing the Breaking Free again-is that because you are retaping? Or is that done? Breaking Free was the first Bible study I ever put my hands on-as a baby Christian-can you imagine? God knew I needed a major mind makeover to go with my new heart! Seven years later I am thinking it’s time-I’ve been waiting for the new hair version. I did A Heart Like His(Big hair version) and loved it. But being a former southern bell,(now she’s still in there but trapped in Wisconsin tundra)hair is immportant to my ability to concentrate. Although, once the message gets going-the word always overcomes! I watched a video for MOPS years ago, with a segment by Ron Hutchcraft on evangelism that was one of the most wonderful I’ve ever seen-but for about two minutes I didn’t think I was going to be able to watch because of a horrendous comb over!
Okay, I didn’t know this was going to be about hair. But that’s part of your ministry that I appreciate-it helps me not to get get so deep! And it gives me that taste of the south that I so miss. So to bring this back around into a relatively relavant message-thanks for Breaking Free so He can use you to help us keep breaking free too! What a wonderful way to walk!
    With great love-Angela H

Hey Beth, you forgot the Christian & Missionary Alliance! I only saw this yesterday and I hail from Toronto, Ontario and attend the Rexdale Alliance Church. Ravi Zacharias’ bil, Sunder Krishnan is my pastor. How cool is that! Last year our entire church did Believing God and this year we are doing the Fruit of the Spirit. Your obedience to your calling has brought more eternal impact than you could ever dream of. I was referred to your blog by a former SS student of yours who found me talking about you on my blog. To all my new friends, my Siestas!!! And to Beth, Amanda & Melissa…

I’ve come to love this blog! It is so uplifting and just so awesome! It has been truly inspirational to me and I’ve actually started blogging my thoughts from my quite time on my Myspace page. Its quite fun and there has been some pretty interesting comments back about the posts.
That being said, I thought I’d share something that one of my commentaries on the Song of Solomon had to say that I found SO AMAZING!! This comes from the “Thru The Bible” Commentary Series by J. Vernon McGee.

“The Christian life is a love affair. We love Him because He first loved us. He loved us enough to give Himself for us. Now He says to us, “I want your love.” That seals it. If you don’t love Him, then don’t go on pretending. Be honest and chuck the whole thing. It is all meaningless if you do not love Him.”

I think the thing that stuck out to me the most is the statement that the Christian life is a love affair. That was such a powerful statement to me! God showed us the ultimate love and is simply asking for our love in return. I don’t think our love and devotion is too much to ask in exchange for the ultimate love in the giving of His life that He showed us.
I have made a commitment that, in the year of 2008, I’m going to tell God I love Him everyday and, just as importantly, show that love by loving others more and more each day.
In God, I have the ultimate lover and pray that I will always treat Him as such! I pray the same for all of you!
Y’all are awesome and I consider myself very blessed to be a part of such a special group!

    In Him,
    Stephanie

Note to Marti…to answer “What exactly is a siesta?” (if you haven’t already been told) It’s one of those nicknames that evolved. Initially, Beth called us “Sisters.” Soon that evolved into “Sistas.” Then one day, she added the Beth-Moore-Tex-Mex influence and called us “Siestas!” The name stuck and we’ve been Siestas ever since! =D

    Greetings Siestaville!

This comment has nothing to do directly with the post, but wanted to make some more prayer warriors aware of an amazing family in need of prayer. If you’re willing, buzz over to http://cfhusband.blogspot.com/ and prepare to be amazed at the incredible faith being displayed the the power of God at work. Only God can take a situation like this and use it to further His Kingdom.

What a Mighty God we serve!

I’d like to add to all the lists. I’m married, have 4 kids, eleven grandkids and many foster kids. (The house has been crazy, but we finally, this weekend, are all together for our Christmas celebration, so I’m a little behind in my reading. We are in Massachusetts, I’m 54, a very very young 54, retired, took an early one so I could spend time with the little babies we have come into our home. Go to BethEden Baptist, independent baptist. In my spare time I pray for Strength and Help to get me through. Isaih 41:10
I’m new to blogging but in the quiet of the evenings, I read some of them and just thank God for other women who are loving Him just as much as me! You know that is my one prayer that I could love Him more. Joy for this coming year……… Mimi T

Sorry I missed the roll call….am signing in from Singapore. I am a Houstonian that can’t seem to find her way back to TX. HA! I know it’s God’s plan for me to be where I am. Am beginning a Breaking Free bible study this week with seven other ladies. I did the study in Beijing in 2003. Pray for me as I am a discussion leader this time.
Beth and staff…thanks for sharing with us and allowing up to be apart of what God is doing in this ministry.

What a wonderful snapshot of the community of women, touched beyond measure by your work, Beth! Being a “southerner at heart” living in the north my entire life, I feel a kinship that is amazing with all of you! I agree that the web is so dark for so many, that the light of Jesus is the light needed to illuminate the darkness therein. What a THRILL to see the width and breadth of the community…………….Praise The Lord!

    Love from the snowy northland!

Wow! I couldn’t post a comment for the roll call but I enjoyed reading as many of the posts as I could. Someone said we should call our one guy on the blog a “burrito”….how about a little twist and say “bro-rito” – lol! Thanks to God for using you to reach so many, Beth! Had my first Bible study in my home last summer with you & 9 very diverse ladies and it was awesome – different backgrounds, different stories, different Bible translations, different denominations – ONE GOD!
